Maduras were only made for about two years due to the fact they were about maintenance free. Suzuki service departments never saw them again. They resolved that issue in subsequent models.
It was ❤at first sight when I saw the Madura! I worked at a steel plant, and one of our new hires rolled up on her. He was just out of the Army, and wanted to sell her. I bought her on the spot. She only had 2500 miles on her. I’ve owned a few bikes, but this one was my Best Ever!! I’d never even heard of Madura, but pleasantly Surprised! Seating position was excellent, handlebars were just tall enough, and the seat was firm, but soft. The engine was powerful, just loud enough, and very responsive to the throttle! Thank you so much for this video. It brought back many great memories to me. 👍❤🏍
I don’t know how but I’ve never seen a Madura. I owned a first gen v45 and loved it. Thinking back I feel like I didn’t appreciate it as much as it deserved.
Hola amigo, también soy de Panamá... Aún tienes esa moto? Me gustaría verla Bro... Yo quiero comprar una Magna 1985 que vi hace poco en venta. Saludos. Déjame tu IG para seguirte
I still own my 83 Magna . Wanted it since high-school. Still runs like a scalded dog! When I can't ride anymore, I'm willing it to my son! (A hardcore sport bike rider) Maybe then he'll be ready to take it easy ,lay back ,and still twist the wind up! Be safe, y'all ! Respect all! Head on a swivel! And God Bless y'all 🙏
I remember there being a Madura back then, vaguely, but no details. I went through several Hondas from then, V65 Magna and Sabre, CB900F (have had two), and then went bike free for a long time but got back in on a 98 Suzuki Bandit, 01 FZ1, 2000 ZX12R Ninja. That Ninja was very fast. Got off sport bikes and onto a Harley then ended up getting an 83 Honda CB1100F and a 79 Honda CBX and have those three to this day.
I wish they would make bikes like this again. Fast, nimble and dependable. Nowadays all they seem to make is Harley knock offs. If I wanted a Harley I would buy one. Until then I will stick with my 96’ Magna and 08’ Raider.
Great video!!! Really that was informative and for people who have never seen either model in real life, it puts things in perspective... thanks guys you rock!
I aquired via remote control (from afar via friend) some V65 with 83 rims. Runs on 3 pots. God knows what it is but i did really need ro scrach my itch on that one. Goes well with my 82 GL500 Silverwing. Altho i havent been in saddle for long and dobt posess licence, its fun to wrench and make stuff work again.
I had a 83 V65 , I ran tha Hell out of it! I raced everything that I came across, never got beat! I did break the driveshaft at the motor, it cost me a grand for Eddie Hills In Wichita Falls to fix it 😂 I still ride my current bike is a 2018 MT-09 , I would love to have another 83 V-65 if I could find one In good condition, Great video guys!
Weighing 185 lbs, Desoto Memorial speedway (sea level), 10:17 @ 126 - 1983 V65. Amoco 93.5 gas with a modified intake. The anti-dive front end with the 8-piston dual disks was phenomenal! Nice video.
I had a Suzuki Madura in 2000, it was strong, fast, mean and comfortable. There was only one downside, it had a very little tank and used a lot of petrol......Had to spend a lot of time at the gasstation....
I had a Madura also, and definitely agree it was thirsty, and had a tiny tank. Useless range if you planned on traveling. But it was fun! Second gear wheelies with a passenger, clutch already out and rolling...just crack the throttle and hang on!
V65 was a dream-bike for me. Couldn't afford one at the time between 83-85 but in early 86 looking at the showroom floor I decided to put my money into a new Yamaha VMax and was quite happy.🙂 Your Roll-On results were actually surprising.👍
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Magna's power hits hardest in high rpm's. He even said that it revs higher and happier, so I was surprised that the comparison was gear by gear instead of speed
@@supermans5000 Yeah, I guess shows torque pull at low rpm. But few ride that way, well at least all of the time. Most if looking for some getti-up. will kick down a gear or two. So, maybe 5k pulls would have been worth while...ihmo.
The burning the back tire bullshit really pissed me off ! I had a Magna and two Sabres. That madora couldn't keep up with any one of them in a Canyon. Just to be fair neither could a huyabusa or a vmax. Both of those bikes would Take Me in a 1/4 mile though😉
Interestingly enough, I owned these two bikes simultaneously myself. I found the Madura to be softer and more laid back, like the comparison between a fast Cadillac and a muscle car.
My Father owned an 83' Magna (1st yr, only stock bike to make it to the 10sec ¼ mile bracket). I was 24 at the time, but that thang pulled like a monster from 1st to 5th. Scared me, but I loved it! 84 models, Honda detuned them to make more lowend torque.
@@allanmcelroy9840 it was. 84 was also when they came out with the Sabre v4. The 84 Magna having the 83 power, was going to take away attractiveness from the new bike. Reminds me of those V6 Taurus SHO's were faster than the V8 Mustangs of that time.
'83 Magna has only 106 rwhp. The 1/4 mile time posted just under 11 sec. was posted by Pee Wee Gleason a professional rider who I understand weighed a mere 130 lbs 😂. The rider technique, light weight, and abuse to clutch to have achieved that key 1/4 time but not something any average rider could ever do to their bike parked in garage. Where did you get the false information the '84-'85 models were detuned to make more low end torque? They simply lost power due to more stringent emissions compliance. You want that same arm pulling power in a modern bike? A Kawasaki Versys 1000 is about the same weight with slightly more power and torque throughout the rpm range with better fuel economy and way better handling characteristics and comfort. I had graduated from high school the year prior to the first V65 Magna release and fondly remember the tv commercials. Honda had great marketing back then and achieved a new milestone. However, by today's standards these bikes are far from anything special and much more dangerous for inexperienced riders. Per my understanding they will squat when using engine braking due to drive shaft. Use too much late engine braking while entering a corner and the reduced ground clearance will have you scraping valuable bits on the ground and later doing the same to clean your shorts later.
I remember Cycle World testing the Madura, they said the Madura rear suspension jacking up and down from driveshaft torque was much more controlled than on the Magna.
The straight line performance difference between a V65 Magna and a 1200 Madura was very small. The Magna had a tendency to lift the front wheel if you were not practiced in launching it hard, where as the Madura could be launched rather aggressively without this worry. For what its worth, the magazines of the time claimed the Madura was the faster bike through the 1/4 mile, if but a couple tenths of a second. The V65 Magna was known for having issues with its cams due to a claimed oiling problem, however i never heard of an engine problem associated with the Madura. The V-Max pretty much made both of these bikes obsolete to anyone that was serious about wanting a performance cruiser.
I called to test ride a 700 and they intentionally had a 1200 ready. I told them I can't ride that big thing and they were like sure you can! My test ride lasted over a half hour when I called (they thought I crashed) and said I'll take it! lol
I own both bikes (and I'm currently looking for a 1st gen V Max to complete my collection). I love both bikes, but each individually. They're different machines with pretty different characteristics. However, one thing the Magna definitely has in its favor (and the reason I tend to ride it more) is that I can still get parts for it. Sadly, it's very difficult to get new parts for the Madura because they're so rare. That being said, I still love my Madura, and plan to keep it going as long as I possibly can. I have an 06 V Star 1100 Classic for when I wanna behave tho lol. It's my best long trip bike by a long shot.
My thinking is that the gear ratios may be a bit different. An interesting comparison may be to look at the rpm;s and try to find a gear that matches both.
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲♥️♥️♥️♥️🌎🌎🌎🍓🍓🤪 I've owned and ridden a 1983 V45 Sabre, a 1986 V45 Sabre (700cc), and now I'm riding an 84 V65 Sabre. It's too bad Suzuki didn't make a Sabre version of their Maduro engine. I had never heard of Suzuki's Maduro up until a few years ago, and have never seen one in person. I appreciate your comparison, Thank You.
Nice. I had an '88 V45 Super Magna for a while. Always loved the V65, and in my research I discovered the Madura 1200. Ive never seen a Madura on the road, but have seen some very nice customs on line.
Correction on the V65. 1. It was build in Ohio. Because Harley Davidson complained to the Government in 1982, the US applied a 45% tariff on any bike over 700cc. So, in 83, you stopped seeing 750cc bikes, and started to see 700cc, and Honda opened a plant in Ohio to make anything over 700cc (also, they made car there too). 2. The Pipes on the V86 are not the original. This ones on it now suck.
Well, that Madura's engine is a lot more sorted and clean looking with their orientation of the cylinders. The Magna, you look at it and your not sure what you're looking at. Is that an industrial compressor motor stuck inside of a motorcycle frame? Wtf? I mean I literally, recently look at an ad for a used Magna and had a hard time figuring what the freakin motor was, especially when the seller called it a Nighthawk, HIP...
@@will7its yeah, but the bike, in general, it looks like it has a high CG. The front end is gigantic. I imagine the rake and trail is more than normal from the looks of it. But, all In all the oddness of it, is more of the standard feature of 90 ° engine. It is hard to fit it, similar to the Ducati " L 90s" and V4 two stroke GP bikes, they all look clumsy.
The oil mod was needed only for the 83-85. The last year, 86, Honda changed how the heads were oiled. You could still added the mod, but not needed (I do have it on my 84 & 86).
You also didn't see that tires were old junk and needed replacement. Burnout is the best way to end the shitty tire and we did it having tonnes of fun.
Everybody is keen to say it but it's not true. They pull about the same. In some cases like high gear/low rpm pulls Madura does even a tiny bit better.
I own both of these bikes (not these specific ones, but an 84 V65 and an 85 Madura 1200) and I assure you it will not. The Madura is not to be trifled with. They're very different machines, but the Madura will absolutely give the Magna a run for its money, and flat-out outrun it from a dig.
@@akio2589i still own both, the magna is quicker period end of story, it isnt a brutal blow it away quicker like some think the madura keeps up with it well except at high rpm where the magna makes a bit more power. I have had these both dynoed and the honda was 104 bhp the suzuki was 99 bhp. The suzuki is stronger down low until just past 5500 rpm the honda takes over from there and stays ahead until redline. The madura makes slightly more torque
@andreawhalen4142 My point wasn't about which one was quicker, my point was that the Magna will not run circles around the Madura. They're fairly evenly matched. And my specific Madura is faster than my Magna. But, the Madura has been jetted and the exhaust opened up. It makes around 108 at the wheel, where my Magna is at 102.
The quarter mile times for them are close but noone including pee wee gleason could get the madura into the tens, the magna was famous for being the first under 11 sec quarter mile. I have also owned an 84 interceptor 1000. The difference always showed up on top the suzuki will fall behind as redline nears. The madura is indeed a nice bike though, cruising around on either the magna or madura is great mostly because they are very torquey bikes, you can pick your spot in traffic very nicely on either. Suzuki always stopped making their good reliable bikes, maduras are actually very reliable bikes.
the pulls on the bike were BS... You backed out of the Magna before the Carburetors all had the bellaphrams pull the main jets into play. Around 7,000 RPM's to 12,000 RPM's is where you feel the real difference between the 2 bikes. Because of gear ratio differences between the 2 bikes, the rolling test is flawed. Pick a speed and let the driver pick a gear and roll.....
Performance comparison you described would be very strange.. Unless you'd be interested in assessing smoothness of idle or something like that💁♂️ In this video we took those bike from standstill to red line from 1st to 3rd gear on two seperate runs. Then we took them to open road and did another 5 runs to see how they go from given speeds to assess flexibility of those motors from low rpm through to midrange(about 3k rpm to 6k- 7k rpm) In other words we covered both all types of acceleration thus the conclusions we get from your comments are: A) you didn't watch the video in full.. or B)you're sad penis(gotta keep the language civilised) who had a bad day and wants to talk shit for no reason.
1. I replaced the OEM Magna pipes as they rotted to scrap and bike failed MOT(or to be precise - it's equivalent) It meant that it could not be legally ridden on the road. New OEM pipes from Honda were discontued so my only option was MAC system which was new and at affordable price. Hopefully this satisfies your curiosity. 2.Magna sounds shit on ANY exhaust,(stock or aftermarket)as it's just a shitty sounding engine overall. Any complaints to be directed to Honda, they built the bike not me. 3. When it comes to Madura and it's sound i'll unveil to you that until now i only heard positive comments about it. You're the 1st person to say that is sounds bad. This means that you're in tiny minority so you're voice sadly becomes meaningless.
Bull crap , no comparison on the performance, I’ve owned both , magna destroyed the Suzuki, next time do a real test , again I’ve owned both , i kept the magna !!!
A couple of fools destroying classic bikes just to get youtube validation.. When they get old they will tell everyone that listens to them how great the bikes were. Sad really.
I feel i must respond to this nasty comment. 1st - where in this video you saw destruction of those bikes? Are you on mushrooms? 2nd - we didn't have to get old to tell people that bikes are great. We already say that to everyone whenever we can. 3rd - video wasn't made to get "RU-vid validation" but to provide some info about bikes which have ZERO COVER on RU-vid. 4th - if somebody is sad here that would be you as you presented a classic keyboard warrior comment. You would never say this to my face you lame turd. That's really sad !
Guy who starts a conversation with calling people "fools" tells me i'm a troll? You really are on mushrooms ! Once again you i.m.b.e.c.i.l.e - There is ZERO RU-vid videos about those bike where they are properly covered with tech, history, etc being discussed. I'm not talking about videos filmed on the phone, fly by videos or walk around the bike type of crap. Are you really so thick ?
