Hey. I work at eBay's largest used motorcycle parts dealer, MRC cycle. I think I can sponsor you and get you the parts you need to get the vf1100 going. We've got it all in our store currently. Reply to this if interested

Yeah 35s would be sick. I really would like next build to be a 4wd indipendent suspension with a samurai transfer case maybe and a HarleyDavison engine

I would say 30 max and some good gearing will be the next opinion!
@LitchKB
@LitchKB 5 лет назад
From the specs I can gather... RPM = 10,000RPM Primary Drive = 1.971 Gear Ratio = (5th) 1.037 Output sprocket = 17T (From workshop manual) Driven sprocket = 60T (Counted in video) Tyre Diameter = 26X9R12 = 26" diameter Tyre Circumference (meters) = PI x Diameter x (0.0254 inches per meter) Max speed = RPM / (Primary Reduction x Current Gear's Ratio) x (Output / Driven) x TyreCircumference x 0.06 (Meters Per Minute -> km/h) Max speed = 10,000RPM / (1.971 x 1.037) x (17T / 60T) x 2.07m x 0.06 = 173km/h (107mph) That's about spot on. 1st gear (@2.733 ratio) @ 7500RPM gets you to 30mph - which is useful, could be a bit lower, but still... If we guess torque to be near peak at 7500RPM (~60ftlbs), then torque at the wheels at that point will be about 600ftlb (which is also heaps). Should be a fun ride.
@tom5051666

you need to factor in air resistance (drag), handling and weight when working out theoretical top speed.
@LitchKB
@LitchKB 5 лет назад
@@tom5051666 you'd also need fuel quality, ambient temperature, altitude, driveline efficiency, tyre pressures, terrain, and a few more metrics - but then who gives a shit when you're just estimating...

The V4 has a lot of torque. I owned two V65 Sabre’s with this engine. Your engine came out of the Interceptor ( chain drive ). When you get the carbs and all the electrical working and running you’ll need a manometer to balance the carbs or you’ll have issues. You picked an excellent engine, just be careful in the higher gears. They may not be able to handle any hard jerks or undo torque. I had the fifth gear lobes break on my ‘85 Sabre from going to hard on them. I’m enjoying the build, can’t wait until the final product rolls.

a couple of tips and questions: 1. have you ever thought about making yourself an engine crane? it'll be handy! 2. how much space do you think you're gonna need for that fw/rev gearbox? the whole drive chain doesn't necessarily have to be in-line, you can put the gearbox above the rear axel. 3. how long do we have to wait to see this thing to running?? great job so far! by the way!!!!!

those V4 engines from the 80's are fast but they had issues with reliability, (the internal cam chain tensioners are the first thing that come to mind). Also if you are going to put a bunch of time into getting it running good you might just look for a v65 magna that was wrecked or try to find a parts bike to get the CDI box regulator rectifier and Wire harness plus you can grab the control switches and then have headlights and street spec it out. i would think that will be cheaper than trying to piece meal every part you need. Just my 2 cents, keep it up I like your ambition!

there are pneumatic starter motors for trucks, they are really efficient and really good in a way that they cant burn up. You would need an on board compressor - rotary with carbon contacts or piston one or the screw-type with a large buffer volume. The gains - you can have reverse with a big power - from the starter. The motor can run both ways - if you get really stuck. also pneumatic lines are easy to rout and you can add that to the front wheels maybe.

Nice progress dude! Just remember to wind your front coilovers up so the springs arent floating loose when it's at full droop. I noticed they were doing that during assembly and thats a real fast way to trash your shocks if that loose spring binds up

You should really really learn what dead tube junction is in roll cage design and why you shouldn't be adding them all over that cage. There are tons of hard ridden buggies of similar design/size that weigh well under 1000lbs finished. Throwing more and more tube at it does not mean it's stronger.

@user-neo71665
@user-neo71665 5 лет назад
@@tom5051666 By keep adding weight everywhere it's only gonna make the main issues show up that much faster. I been trying to give him tips from the first video of this I noticed a problem. He doesn't fix anything and just keeps throwing gussets at everything If he is lucky stuff will start buckling at low speed in his yard where the injuries might be lesser. Personally I wouldn't trust this thing over 25mph the way it is. If he showed up at the inspection pit back when I drag raced they wouldn't have even let him drive it on the property, made him push it back on the trailer. Off road is much more harsh on parts than street. I"M far far far from knowing everything there is about the finer parts of cage and suspension design but I have built and raced a tube chassis drag truck that passed NHRA inspection with flying colors. I hate to see anybody get hurt.
@betoborba3329
@betoborba3329 5 лет назад
I was here thinking the same I’m seeing a lot of them dead tubes! A lot of people think that dead tubes don’t matter because it’s not for “legal” racing but it’s actually for safety in general! So that’s why is something really important to keep in mind!!

Larger tubing and less tubing. Larger tires like 35s will help soak up bumps so you dont run the suspension dry. With larger tires you could run the tightest coil overs they make so it could handle serious air time. If you build a second one, go to the junk yard and find a cheap car or van with a decent 6/4 cylinder and trans axle. Messing around with chains and axles will get old quick and independent suspension will break less.
