Honda is well known now for not taking chances, unless is the CBR 1000rr-r-r-r-r-r-r and that could be a big bonus ot a big draw back for many riders. As a yamaha mechanic I preffer the Transalp over the Tenere for the riding modes adjustability, for the reason that I have a wife and the 20 extra hp relative to the Tenere are welcomed and I am not that experienced off road rider so I'll be doing more of road trips. Now if you are off road rider and solo riding the only advantage the Tenere has is ground clearence and looks.
@brunobb3356
@brunobb3356 Год назад
The Honda mechanic is very reliable and the additional 20 CV compared to the yamaha t7 are an advantage but Originally the motorcycle trail were made to make the road and paths, many bikers only ride on the road with their trail for comfort . Personally I drive on road and off road, hence for me the advantage of the yamaha t7 and even more the KTM 790 and 890 Adventure or adventure R

Well, I think that is an outdated mith. My last two KTMs (450 EXC and 890 Adv) have done a very nice job with no issues. Honda did a good job in the past, but their new products are one o two steps down... and realiability is not bad at all in other brands, and it is not what used to be in Honda. I will not buy a motorbike with no feelings.

True! KTM kept my bike eight months in their shop while garanted because motor don't start, plus many others problem After that (parts missing for exemple when I get it back). Now I just wait one year to have a rear wheel to be replaced on my bike ...no service, no parts, not a word of excuse....no customers service.I would definitely chose Honda for fiability, customers services and spare part disponibility etc....but my choice is T7...Japan brand anyway...

The Transalp will still be running 20 years after you sell it after riding it for 10 years. In my opinion, the extra kilos = reliability and durability. Everyone forgets, KTM Ready to Race. That doesn't equate to reliability or durability. It's not in their mindset. Don't hate 'em for it, just don't complain about it.

(with such a dynamic market and so many up-dates) When was your last time you kept a bike for 10years, taking care afterwards that new owners enjoy it for the following 20? :) we're not in the mid '00 anymore when 1200gs adv was the lonely player you wanted to hold forever... Elderly people say life is soo short...would rather get some fun out of a bike that is "half so reliable", still able to get me wherever I want with that race engineered approach (and lc8 has some proven reliability background, let's face it)...this makes them so different to their competitors. I love the asian manufacturers, don't get me wrong (owned couple of their good adv. bikes like transalp700, xtz1200superten etc) but once you step on the ktm, you get a completely new perspective of fun, adrenaline... you start to get their mindset. In my opinion, the only one comparing to the 790 adv R (speaking here about the initial '20 MY I had experience with, which actually links directly to this topic) was the crf1100 which, in addition to the exceptional behavior on dirt and road, gave a similar feeling / emotion of over-sized, powerful, tough designed, strong and "beasty" bike (the handlebar, the engine sound, the riding position, the dynamic, the brakes, the shift, the power, the torque)... it's not fair to bring the africa in this discussion, I know, even the price is another segment but it was the only one asian giving me that "beast" feeling very similar to the ktm adventure bikes. A bike makes sense to me when it's able to offer that emotion "of owning you" since the moment you open the garage door where it lies silent and peacefully and you have the eye contact, the first cold start in the chilly morning with lot of bass in the exhaust making the garage panels vibrate up to the moments of ride to the peaks of your trail when it's full of dirt and then brings you tired to a shelter late in the night after a beautiful and exhausting day. But that's my view :) Later edit: switching back from emotions to facts - you all noticed where ktm's tank is placed right? So, when playing with numbers like one is 10kg or whatever heavier than the other, why don't we take all background in discussion? The center of gravity being so low it becomes a master advantage in handling, stability etc. And that's another european way of thinking when producing a performant bike... 30years ago and more, when fuel was mainly gravitationally supplied to the carbs...such design was the only applicable, but nowadays, with lot of powerful fuel pumps serving the fuel at right pressure to the injectors,why not rethinking the design in the full advantage of the ride? How many years from now japanese industry will need to reach the conclusion that slight extra weight could even work as an advantage... again, thumbs up for engineers making their sallaries worth :)

The 790ADV would be the best selling bike in the world if KTM wasn't completely out of their minds and actually fixes the myriad of known problems. Including the "demo mode" robbery.
@moto-news
@moto-news Год назад
Hello @mermerac, the DEMO MODE is much discussed indeed. KTM have released a video a few days ago in which they give complete insights in the KTM 890 ADVENTURE 2023 model and also explain DEMO MODE. They claim that offering al these features (cruise control and Rally mode) in the mid-class segment is not standard. Because not every rider knows what for example Rally Mode means for their rides and if they would need it, the DEMO MODE will make it possible to experience it.

Yeah a demographic that watches too many KTM promo videos. They are not that different on paper. Once the KTM hits wet weight (208kgs xl750 wet VS KTM 199kgs dry with out oil or 20l of fuel), it will be 10kgs heavier than the transalp. And the price difference will allow better suspension and a proper skid plate for the xl750. Once that is in place and bikes are on par at an even price, the XL seems a better bike. 790 is a sleeved 890. Its holding 890 weight without the extra power. The KTM premium price optional electronic package is better then XL electronics but there more money to throw at the KTM. Then theres the topic of a Japanese build VS a Chinese build.

I'm only 5'11" old guy and just sitting on the Honda it was much easier and had way more comfortable foot peg position. The KTM pegs are back and high very uncomfortable to me. Plus the Honda feels less like a tank around the tank. Haven't road either no comment there. Not a big fan of all these adventure bikes that make you feel like you have a 50gal drum between your legs. The Triumph 900 still feels and looks like a classic motorcycle and not sitting on a 50gal Drum. Love the Ducati Desert Sled

@paulreid3273 thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences! 😊👍 Regarding your comment about the "50gal drum between your legs" I understand what you mean. These adventure bikes are a bit wider than the mentioned Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled for example. They aim at being able to travel for multiple days to far away destinations while traveling on paved and unpaved roads. When you prefer a slimmer tank feeling you can look into a KTM 690 ENDURO, the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled or a bike like CFMoto 450MT. Anyway, very smart you tried sitting on different bikes so you get a feeling which suits you best.😃 Do you own a Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled at the moment?

@moto-news
@moto-news 2 месяца назад
@rayshobbyfarm.1019 thanks for your comment. The reason we compared these different statistics is that both manufacturers choose to report either the "wet" or the "dry" weight. We understand that they are slightly different but prefer not to "estimate" the extra weight in order to match them (by adding for example 10 kg to the dry weight). Therefore me mention only the real numbers which are correct and the viewer can interpret that the dry weight need some extra kg for the necessary oil and fuel. Hope this explains our reasoning a bit and the rest of the comparisons were useful to you and others. 😊👍

Wait a minute, per their website (at least the US one), KTM doesn't MAKE a 790 anymore, they switched over to the 890 in 2021...I HAVE one (R model with Tech Pack), and as it's better (power, suspension and lighter) offroad I wouldn't even consider the Honda or T7. Is this some photochop vid or??? The fairing and windscreen LOOK like they're from the 2023 890, but like I said, to my knowledge and their site they don't make a 790 any longer...

@@ChopperChad Wow, weird, I had to dig around and I see it's available in maybe the EU market? VERY strange because they HAD the 890 the last couple years if I remember, so, they went backwards??? Glad I'm in the US!

Hello @K X, The KTM 790 ADVENTURE is indeed back for 2023 while it was not available a few years. This model is produced by CF MOTO in China and is positioned at a lower price as the 890 ADVENTURE and 890 ADVENTURE R. It has a new design and therefore looks a lot like the 2023 KTM 890 ADVENTURE. It might not be available in every country as you already discovered :)
