I wholeheartedly agree about how PLANTED my 2023 GT3 Touring feels compared to my 981 GT4. Like Griffin says, "It's hard to explain" until you drive the car and are blown away by how much GRIP the car produces. The car is also terribly compliant with Pirelli's and 18-way sports seats. I do not find the ride "jarring" at all as was my GT4 with the racing buckets and Michelin Sport Cup 2's. And the shifter is the best in the business. Not a noisy mechanical bolt-action. Just very precise, tight, and light. The clutch is also a joy . . . about half as stiff as in my 981 GT4. Cant wait for your track video!

Great summary!! A manual touring with 18-way seems like a dream street car, look forward to driving that configuration one day!

You get what you pay for. Both cars have talent but the 3 is far more expensive than the older 981.

I own a 991.2 gt3 and of course love it. I was able to race a 992 gt3 at Barber in Alabama. There was little difference except for one BIG thing. The new front suspension is a tremendous improvement.

I'm so glad you brought up that tram-lining isn't a problem in a car that's essentially only road legal so that you can drive it to and from the track (and cars & coffee) You can't have this kind of frontend precision without getting feedback - it's a feature, not a bug 😁 Another great video, keep it up!

tram lining is not a problem, it is a trait of old 911s and it has returned in the 992. Owned 911's for 34yrs and I welcome the front end dance, I just let it do it's thing and it's feels alive. I do however always run it in sports mode, so that I feel the pot holes but not deviate.

The way you explained this grip is what I felt when driving 992 GT3 car in PECLA. I’ve never driven a GT3 and rear engine car at pace and it was “in your face” type sensation when exiting corners. I used the term catapult and being shot out of a cannon. Two things actually left me mesmerized after that short experience: this and also grip going around carousel. I attributed that one to down force and it was astonishing. Honestly, I drove it back to back to GT4 and I walked away 100% sold on GT3. It just eclipsed the cayman in all aspects, which sucked for me as GT4 is much more within my budget, but working on it !
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
Sounds like an awesome experience! You’re right that the gt3 is leagues beyond the gt4, and unfortunately the price does seem to go even higher beyond just the capability difference. The GT4 RS helps to close that gap but still doesn’t get there at least from a lap time perspective. And unfortunately is even more expensive than the GT3 in secondary market!
@TheSuperpod
@TheSuperpod Год назад
@@carhoney nice. Look forward to your video on that. Yes, I became well versed on the current market recently and it ain’t pretty. Essentially, MSRP completely lost its relevance. Both products are in the realm of big daddies. I’ll watch and see how things unfold and either will be looking at a 991.2 or if things soften some more maybe 992 by years end. My secret hope that Porsche wakes up and churn out more GT product for masses otherwise it’s a bit of a sh$t show IMHO. Great content , guys!

The 3 has 4WS too, aids in turn in. I had a 4, fantastic car, but found the limits regularly (which was fun), however the 3 is another level. I still have not found the limit and not sure if I ever will, it is THAT GOOD! haven't drvien the 4RS yet, but I'm in no rush, other than the sound I doubt it could be as good as the 3. IMO.
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
We explore this very topic in our next video on track, hope you take a look at it! 4RS is not as "good" in terms of speed....but it may be more "fun" to drive for many drivers. Depends on your experience, driving style, and personal tastes.

@@carhoney the GT4 is a dream! Just eager to get it broken in to rev it out! Yeah been thinking about OAP, you seen the JCR ones? Think Titanium makes a difference? Also been looking at the BMC cone filters, a cheap upgrade that seems to help intake sound a bit too. Thoughts?
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
I think the JCR would sound way better, we just stayed minimal because we didn’t want to blow sound booths on track consistently. If that’s not a concern I would go full in on exhaust! Also improving the intake noise is definitely worth it in the GT4 as the soundtrack can get a bit droney/monotonous over time.

Just subscribed this channel. Really love your content videos. I am planning to make purchase a 992 GT3 or 991.2 GT3RS for autocross racing (@national level competetion and some track day duties). Base on your experience, which one would you recommend for optimal performance if all kinds of modification allowed. Again, thanks for making great videos!!
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
Definitely the 992 GT3 - it is leagues above the .1 RS and especially if you can modify it I can’t think of a reason not go with that. It’s already faster as stock and the suspension and aero alone is far beyond technologically.

Nice video! I drove a 992 GT3 for the first time and I found that there was almost no power/torque under 5000rpm. However from 6000rpm onward, it transforms into an absolute animal. So it's really going to be much more effective at the track. For daily driving, I think a 911 Turbo would destroy a GT3 quite easily.

so... gt4rs or manual GT3? and why?
@carhoney
@carhoney Год назад
Well, I bought the GT4RS and after driving the GT3 I’m not pushing to trade for it, even though I love it. The GT3 in manual is a more fun Street car in my opinion, as most manuals are to me. What you can’t get in speed legally on street is partially made up for in engagement in the GT3 - it keeps you on your toes and feels alive. But on track I have more fun in the GT4RS despite it not being as capable as the GT3. It’s more playful, the sound track is awesome, and I like the mid-engine layout feel. But I expect that over time that will shift towards wanting a more serious, challenging and rewarding GT3 platform for track. The next question is, GT3 In manual or 992 GT3RS?? - Chase

@jameswillard1
@jameswillard1 Год назад
Well as a longtime GT3 owner you should realize that Porsche (particularly their GT division) makes decisions based on form following function. And Mclaren is one of the most advanced companies when it comes to aerodynamic design and airflow so perhaps Porsche and them know what they are doing 🤔
