Mr. Harris is the man of the people. Who else can be this eloquent while making you feel like you’re listening to an old friend. The best part is that he drives his car the way it was meant to be driven.
Whilst I have nothing against Chris Harris, it's hard for me to see him as a man of the people when driving a car that must have cost him the thick end of £200,00. I don't know ANYONE that's spent that much on a car, literally, no one in my entire life. And he's got a new one coming soon! What to do with his fav "old" yellow one?? What a dilemma to have, poor boy.
THIS is how you use a sports car. Daily it and live with it and have no apologies about it. Not just bringing it out on weekends or for Cars & Coffee meets. Bravo Chris.
Chris can daily it cause he knows he can afford another one if anything happens to it. For most people, these are halo cars that when purchased are once in a lifetime. You can forgive people for babying it in that situation.
@@Dylan_Dingus Not really, the vast majority of buyers keep them hidden under a sheet in their garage, never driving them, hoping they appreciate in value.
I can guarantee that my reaction to oversteer on a slip road would not be "oh, that's interesting, we appear to be oversteering" 🤣😂🤣! Love what you are doing Chris, big fan sir.
I live beyond the arctic circle and during the winter months I sometimes go "why on earth is my 911 cutting power?!" Then I notice I forgot to turn the PSM off. 🤷
He's one of the only journalists I've seen who seemingly always turns traction control off to really experience the cars. Love watching his driving, it's like poetry at times
check out andrew tate...he actually drives his 16 super cars...including bugatti chiron pur sport..its a shame its more of a lifestyle channel than a car channel
Definitely one of the greats. I love Sutcliff and Catchpole, but I would have never thought I'd like Rory Reid but he's been brilliant over on AutoTrader.
@@neill3040 actually if I am not mistaken they did work together when they both were at EVO Uk. I remember some Ecoty where I read both names in the articles. But it was a long time ago, can’t really be sure.
“First of all the color. This is not the standard color. This is a wrap. I can’t believe I am saying that, makes me sound like an influencer” - The people’s “influencers roasting machine”The one and only, Chris Harris!
I love the fact that the Mr Harris properly drives his cars. He uses them as they are intended to be used and not nannied or hardly driven so that the miles don’t go up.
i LOVE this review. i do the same thing---except i do it with my BMW 1M. It now has 98,000+ miles on it. to live with a car---like REALLY live with a car, day in and day out, use it to drive your kid around, get groceries, take it to grandparents house, take road trips---it really is the way to own a car. Not wax it, clean it, save mileage, and then sell it. The final message is----buy the MOST fun car you can, and drive the hell out of it! Life is short. Every day is special.
I can't imagine how good this thing must feel. Like a good worn in pair of shows. I personally love to buy cars new, beat the crap out of them, but maintain them properly and look after them. The car starts to feel so good after a ton of hard driving miles
@@gottliebdee263 lol a used and maintained car is a safer purchase than a garage queen which hasn't been used enough - there is a level of sanity in this but a fine line
So true. Can’t really understand garage queens or people that only drive their cars in perfect conditions without coming even close to abusing them ever.
@@Ratcher I've put more mileage on my GT3RS in any given month of my ownership...than my brother did on his (much less expensive) F355 in the entire decade he owned it. He literally pushed it out of the garage on the occasional nice Sunday afternoon, polished it with a diaper on the driveway so his neighbors could see it, and then pushed it back in. He took me for a short ride once, and refused to rev over 3500-rpm. This ride had to be planned out three weeks in advance in order to await a perfect weather day. Makes me shake my head.
yeah but, will the new touring with its harder/stiffer suspension would be as good as this one? (not to mention the ugly retractable wing on the new one); it might just be that this 991.2 gt3 is the best gt3 of its kind.
@@eugenux Harder/stiffer? You mean because of the front end's higher spring rates? Remember that they're also mounted onto the lower control arms further inboard, in a position that gives them less leverage than the previous model's struts had.
Fellow 50,000ish mile GT3 Touring owner here (going for 2 million miles)! It's the best Porsche and best drivers car I've ever experienced! Really love this vid - couldn't agree with your detailed points more. Thank you Chris, Keep Touring!
@@cranck07 indeed yes 991.2. 2018 model. Did Euro delivery then brought it back to the US. It's still never been home. I drive it around the west and park it different places. Currently in Porsche Wünderground museum in Santa Clarita until I come back!
@@ianwoodul7732 mostly reliable. No major issues other than some hard to diagnose sputterring occassionally above 8,400 RPM. It was some kind of cam timing sensor. Took many dealer visits to figure out.
chris is literally the perfect car enthusiast. uses his cars enough to get his money and value out of them but still understands and treats them with the respect and love a piece of high performance machinery deserves.
Mr. Harris, I absolutely love your videos. They are the best content on YT. Your GT3T is spectacular! I'm fairly sure you also own a M2cs, I would love to see content on that car as well. As an M2cs owner I would love for you to tell the automotive community your thoughts as well as let us see you drive it as you do with your GT3... Happy New Year to you sir!!
Chris pulls off this odd skill where when driving what to most petrol heads would be unobtainable and yet convincingly (and truthfully) conveys how much it really means to him. So many people on RU-vid see the cost before the car and it seems to dominate their driving experience. Its nice to see someone enjoy a 2CV and an old touring 5 series alongside the latest exotica.
I finally made enough to sort of afford this car. Bought one in Florida and shipped it to Oregon. Moved to Florida one month later driving the GT3 5k miles back to where I had just shipped it from. The trip was worth every penny in depreciation. Best car ever made I'll never regret driving it no matter the cost. Nice to see Chris Harris feels the same
Being of the same era Mr Harris' style of journalism really resonates with me. I hope he continues to enjoy a long and prosperous career on the various media platforms.
I've had a similar problem with the shift knob breaking in my Cayman. I highly recommend the Raceseng Contour as a replacement - very similar profile, can be set to the identical height and it's solid stainless so it won't break. Adds a bit of extra mass as well that's pretty nice.
@@cvn6555 I've had two Porsches, the gear shifter feels plasticy and loose has a lot of travel. The build quality on these cars is massively overrated. They rattle, squeak, knock, etc all the time.
@@blackporscheroadster6415 Not surprised but dismayed. All of the sports cars have been in production for quite some time so they have had years to iron out any build quality problems. I had 7-8 recalls on my 2016 Macan S but I attributed that to it having been the first issue of that model. I wonder if it is the VW influence pushing them to use the cheapest parts wherever possible or a lack of attention in assembly. On my second Macan. One year and so far no build quality issues or recalls.
@@cvn6555 I had a 986S and a 987 RS60 Spyder which pre-dated VW influence, so I think they have always been bad. They just play on their heritage and brand and mugs (like us) fall for it. Wealthy celebrities like Harris are OK, as they just pass it on after 50k miles when everything starts to fail.
I love that you enjoy the slow bits as much as the fast ones, and you throw a bit of humor in with it. A man who calls himself Monkey naming his yellow Porsche "The Banana".
I absolutely enjoyed this video Chris. I love how you utilize the “Banana” in every aspect possible. While you can create some of the most epic slides, I love your honest commentary. If you choose to do so, you should do a comparison video of your incoming Touring vs the “Banana.” I believe many of us would enjoy the story.
As a 991.2 GT3 6MT owner, I cannot agree more with your review. Glad to see your example has held up so well with daily use. Whenever I get into mine, it gives me the tingles. The car feels well put together and the material finish is excellent.
@@pazera66 I have a 2019 GT3RS. I don't daily it, because I need my work truck Monday through Friday, but I definitely put a at least a couple of hours on it every weekend, and track it two or three times per year.
Brilliant car. Mine’s a manual too. All the sales staff were trying to get me to have a pdk but I stuck to my guns and so glad I did. I have a smile on my face every time I drive it. Top quality review Mr Harris as always. 👏
Exactly. I wanted a Turbo but since they don’t have a manual, went with the 991.2 GTS. Nothing like it. Fortunately, I could get a GT3 and the new is also coming with a manual. Looking forward to driving the hell out of it.
You know whats the best part....NO pops-and-bangs. Thank you Mr Harris, this was a very good Video to start the new year on. I appreciate your views when it comes to cars and "drivers" cars. Glad that you are using the Banana in the way that it was designed to be used! One day ill get there, till then, my little Sr20 Sentra puts a smile on face everytime i drive her, aaaaand shes given some hot supercars hidings on twisty mountaim roads 😉 Thank you for being a proper driver! 💪🏼
What a masterpiece of review of the car I love most . Sophisticated but simple , beasty but practical , the 911 never let you down . What a lovely machine . It’s that sort of emotional connection that Chris talks about that’s unbelievable. Best car I have ever driven in my life . We will miss you dearly 911 .
Mr.Harris, you have been one of my favorite vlogger for a while now and this is exactly why, you're a driver! no gimmicks. just passion and proper driving
Cheers, Sir Harris. Keep driving for us. You’ve kept me motivated all these years to go and enjoy these cars for what they are, not let them sit pretty.
I'm on my 3rd 911 - a 992 C2 . My previous two were a 964C2 and a 997C2S. Every time I've driven those cars, I have the same feeling...they are wonderful, I love every minute driving them, etc.
Chris just “gets it” doesn’t he! Like the engine in the 991/992 GT3, we will miss Chris if he is to be completely sucked into the TV world and not be allowed to produce this type of content (the best type).
Fantastic, eloquent and honest content. I’d much rather watch his solo RU-vid videos than what he has to endure with those two other clowns on Top Gear!
completely agree. there is nothing like the GT3 being made today. 9000rpm, manual, 3000 pounds. everything else is too heavy, turbocharged, or automatic.
Heck, 3000 pounds is too heavy. I say that as a 3RS owner. If I could swap the RS's drive train into my 2000 pound Exige, it would be the shit! (Although it would also be a lot shittier as a daily.)
"Every time the car reaches 8-9K, I can't believe they give it a warranty"! Best quote of 2022! 09' C4S 6MT with bits and bobs on it-155K DD and still runs like a raped up up a tree!
Chris the consistent excellence of your journalism is deserving of an MBE! I have learned so much from you over the last 20+ years. Here's to many more. Thank you!
Mr Harris. I understand your point of view. I could never afford a gt3 nor a touring. But buying a 996 carrera c2 n experiencing its natural analog input got me hooked to this amazing machine. What a rush. Its man an machine. No other feeling can compare. Thank you sir you are an inspiration for younger gens. Your experience n wisdom will see u Through.
When cars are financial investments or works of “art” they don’t do what they were ostensibly designed to do, which is to be driven. There are plenty of influencers that have beautiful cars that get on them lightly for 500m on an in ramp, drive them for 20 miles, then put them away in a climate controlled garage to be driven again in 6 months and it always make me feel a bit sad. It’s refreshing to see a car that’s been driven and not just for videos.
More than any other car porsche designed these cars to be driven and driven hard not no just be sat in garages. If people want expensive investments to not use buy art not cars leave them for people that well actually enjoy them
Keep it! Drive it until you can’t and then give it to one of your kids or the dog (since it tries to drive it anyway) to carry on the legacy. I can’t tell you how much it would mean to be given a million mile 911 from my Dad to add another million 👍🏻
Ahh I’ve missed these videos Mr Harris, more of the same please. Just beautifully shot, beautifully simple videos with someone talking absolute sense about our passion
I love the purity in your relationships with cars, and they are relationships, I am sure you will keep it and smile every time you catch a glimpse of it ... its a special thing to find a car that fully meets your needs 👍😀🙏😎
I am probably familiar with the good majority of popular car content creators - all genres - out there. This video is the absolute best. So genuine. Chris Harris is an incredible driver and entertainer. Through his special way, he makes all of this so approachable.
Great piece, interesting to get a real long term look at a car like this. Kind of wish there were more high mileage sports/supercars reviews to see how they all hold up.
It a awesome sports care, that's been used and loved and memories made in. Car's like these become friends and part of the family. Its so good to see one that's been used ....
Great video, I’m lucky enough to have a 991.2 gt3 with pdk, pccb and love it, had it for three years and it’s a keeper. I changed the cup 2 for ps4s a while back great tyre. Interesting to see how you get on with the stiffer 992 as a daily
Yes ,Amazing cars and the tyre swap is the best thing you can do unless you track the car on a regular basis . I had mine coming up to 4 years which is a record for me and I can’t see me selling this .
wow his car could last the warranty period amazing... dude my neighbor died and his Toyota that has been a daily driver and serviced at the supermarket for over 30 years is still alive.
Very interested; Why not keep driving this one and not get the new one? You’ve say you want this one to keep driving and there’s no other car you’d rather be in, so staying with the banana seems the right thing to do.
I've just bought a 991.1 GT3 based on Chris' videos. I love it, more than any other car I've owned, I just wish I'd bought one years ago - they are simply special.
Fantastic video Mr Harris. How would you rate this compared to a Singer and to a Singer DLS? I refer to taking the money out of the equation, of course. Would any of those bring more joy to you (since hypercars do not) than this one? Thanks for the good reviews as well as entertainment that you always bring :)
I just came back from a night drive to practice a bit of heel and toe-ing, I know it's a little different, but i'd really liked to have seen a camera on Chris's feet from 0:11-0:23 as he was doing the transitions/drifts
Chris doing a phenomenal job explaining why this is the first car I probably will keep for good. There’s something so special about the Touring. In the year I have had mine, I have put substantially more miles on it than my daily, and I don’t think that’s bound to change. Truly special!
11:52 Exactyl! The same thoughts entered my mind, when I was blasting a mates 991.2 GT3 in switzerland on the smooth roads out there. I thought "fuck am I in a cup car or something!?"......i miss that noise terribly. Especially combined with the gearbox noise (unless it was buggered...). I'd strongly suggest a GT3 is a car you keep.
Keep it please. I want to see someone carrying on using it as intended and, dare I say, I don't think the 992 Touringwill be as good an all round package as the 991.
I already loved the idea of daily-ing a car such as this, where you feel connected to it, where its simply an experience to move from point A to point B. But it must be said that this video has made me love the idea even more. I hope to have the privilege one day.
A great watch. As always I could listen to him forever. 🤗 He talks at a slightly faster speed so you don't feel he's keeping you unnecessarily, and also like he knows that you know what he's talking about and doesn't over describe stuff or justify himself. Spot on.
Bravo Chris..I feel the same about my 2014 991.1 GT3. The more I drive it the more I want to drive it. One Sunday morning I stopped in at the neighborhood Starbucks and, was planning to go back home. Ended up driving 500 miles roundtrip to see an old high school friend. With 40K the odometer and running strong, the 991.1 GT3 is good. If you can find one buy it. I haven't had any problems out of the 3.8 liter and it is a hell of an engine.
I had a brand new b9 Audi S4 which I drove hard on occasion but in the whole cherished. It broke down twice and was off the road for weeks. I now have a Megane RS cup and I absolutely batter it all the time. It hasn’t missed a beat in 2 years.
I have a 911, and no its not a GT3 but i feel equally as in love with my one. Its in the DNA. I get so much enjoyment out of watching someone who clearly knows what he is on about, rave about a car from probably one of the best stables ever. Great video Chris.
