Personally, I skew towards the positive side when it comes to this game, but there are things that that left me truly baffled. I personally I didn't like it so much (5/10 for me) but for real its so refreshing to see people who leaned on the positive side of the game who aren't making ridiculous claims defending it and instead at least acknowledging that it has its flaws. I have seen a lot of people getting into super heated debates about the game and whether it was good or not and its nice to instead see people essentially agreeing to disagree.

Well, not really. Because you can't really make a cure from a person whose immune due to a genetic mutation anyway. And considering that they're in the post-apocalypse, even if they did somehow manage to make a cure, how were they supposed to produce enough of it to save humanity without the technology necessary. Then there's the question of how were they even going to widely distribute it? And what's stopping some post-apocalyptic warlord/tyrant from simply seizing the cure, enslaving those who know how to make it, and using it to amass power Immortan Joe-style? So really Ellie, your death wouldn't have "save humanity" any way you look at it.

@@scottgaultney By the time Ellie arrives at the fireflies it's been twenty years since the outbreak and the biggest threat to the non-infected aren't the infected, but rather other non-infected. Also, Ellie continues to merrily live her life in Jackson after finding out Joel lied to her, instead of trying to find people capable of using her to find a cure or vaccine. She can't be upset with Joel AND do nothing. There are plenty of issues with the writing of TLOU2 to fill many more honest trailers.

I just went, "Uh, this story again... but hey, it's Druckman, I'm sure he'll make something okay with it. Let's wait and see." Then it came out, my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined. The story was self-important and poorly written, really bad combo.

Well, 2 people on this thread didn't dislike it. (It was a highlight for me as well) And the best part was the space museum and the takeoff, any other answer is just wrong.

They didn't have much of a choice really. It was either release it or risk more of the game being leaked. Plus when they delayed it from the May release date, people got upset. They honestly were gonna loose no matter what to some people.

Plus Druckman said that a lot of the leaks were fake and that they only scratched the surface of the full game. Meh not really, I played both games, and I can say the first one is about the love of a parent. The second is basically not a rote revenge story otherwise Abby wouldn't be a main character. She'd just be the villain. I think the main theme is about letting go of a grudge if not for yourself, then for others who wouldn't want you to be hateful. Abby killing Joel and the finale put it best because they're such opposites symbolically. Abby kills Joel while Ellie is helpless, while in the finale, Ellie tries to kill Abby while Lev is helpless. The characters make an interesting role switch in-between the two story bits. Both are depressing, but they do at least provide context for why it's depressing instead of trying to just be sad and mopey the whole way through like a lesser game.

They won awards for their accessibility and consulted with many people with various disabilities and frankly revolutionized the way visually impaired people can play games. I’ve never seen a game that accessible and I’ve never had such an enjoyable experience playing a game. Whether the story was good or the pacing was right isn’t important to me. The care they put into the disabled community made it in one of my top ten games.

You (and the video creators) are conveniently forgetting about the museum flashback. And all of Abby's flashbacks. And the weed bunker. And the Take on Me cover. And Ellie and Dina's interactions throughout the entirety of Day 1. And Abby and Lev in pretty much all of their interactions. And the fact that despite appearances, this game is ultimately about overcoming grief and regaining hope when it seems lost, just like the first game. And... It baffles me when people say that this game is all negativity.

in the first game you travel across the whole country and don’t find one at all, I mean it didn’t take me out of the story or anything it’s just something I thought was kinda funny for story’s sake either way I still enjoyed it 🤷🏻‍♂️

and to look forward she had to sacrifice it. The fact that she couldn't remember Joel's eyes and then that scene where Joel sits there and looks up from his guitar. Starring into her eyes showing her how she disgraced and disfigured his memories with becoming what she became. Also the part about recovery being hard work too often movies and games just ignore it or sideline such narratives but TLoU2 wasn't afraid to tackle quite a few heavy themes.

But apparently Ellie and Dina who were pretty beaten up themselves saved Tommy's life and get him back to Jackson safely.

He did so because of the realization that his quest for revenge had turned him into a complete monster, and ultimately left him as unsatisfied and empty as he was before killing Zeus. I understand that watching Ellie give up is unsatisfying, but GOW3 is not a celebration of revenge.

Yeah it was! I thought Joel would BARELY be in this game at all given how little he was featured in those trailers. Ended up being pleasantly surprised just how many cutscenes and flashback sequences he was actually featured. ;-)

If you're talking about the one where Ellie plays a song on the guitar, that's when I figured out the premise of the game. Ellie saying she was going to kill every last one of them said she was out for revenge. And Joel walking in after she'd killed a house full of people, not leaving a trace, said he was not real: he was a figment of Ellie's imagination. In other words: Ellie was out to avenge Joel's death.

The combat in this one honestly feels clunky compared to the first one to me.
