Hello guys and welcome back to another video! In today’s video I’m answering all question regarding my time at Cambridge talking about everything from academia, to social life, to whether I’m glad I went.
I would like to reiterate that I understand I am in such a privileged position to even be able to comment on the good and bad bits of Cambridge, things discussed are from my point of view and do not necessarily define everybody’s experience at the university. I’m very grateful to have been given the opportunity to attend, work hard, and graduate from Cambridge.

Just to confirm as somebody who's been to a boarding school Cambridge does sound a lot like my boarding school and I didn't go to boarding school in the UK. When you said the thing about rankings I related so much, we literally got ranked the whole year group like 150 students and honestly it wasn't that deep (I was 3rd once cl I was gassed but it felt like it was just a tough term for everyone and I maintained lol) . Every person in the school was top 3 at least in their primary schools cause we had selective exams and interviews (I've deeped that that experience has indirectly prepared me since I now have an offer from Cambridge and it sounds like boarding school continued ughhh but yayyyy).The video is awesome, super insightful 💗

I love your Videos! They are not overly-stimulating like most contents and require an element of active concentration to watch. Keep it up! But, if you do want to get to a larger audience, you can try to add some music and other elements to your videos

Thank you, I'm glad you like them! Yeah I agree cool editing is not my strong point yet, hopefully I can work on that though!

Having watched your videos about reducing working time, how would you schedule working at Cambridge when it seems like all the contact hours and supervision work alreayd cover far more than you were suggesting?

In summary I loved Cambridge! My only negative is Dons were no different than my Profs in USA; some good, some not good and just a few great. I expected them to be all great at Cambridge! But the experience is wonderful and international friends for.life!

I've been wondering since I started uni what the work load is like for you guys doing stem at oxbridge and whether I would have survived 😅 I'm 2nd year physics at Exeter and feel like this is tough. My grades are very good but I'm literally giving it everything. We do get advised to take days off but it's just not possible if you want to complete all homeworks, lab reports and revise for tests at a high standard. A whole 24 hours off just seems like it would cause more stress setting me back, than it would be worth in rest. Maybe I'm wrong there though. I did really sympathise with you when you said you had very little time to revise for a set of exams and then straight after those were done, you had to crack on with a major project. We have it very similar after Christmas break (although I get the strong impression your work load was next level). Well done for getting through it though. You smashed it! ✊🏽 Also thanks for the video you did on effective study habits! I have said goodbye to doing beautifully sculpted notes! I think all the scribbled equations are paying off. Much appreciated

This is a very insightful, detailed video, Abbey. Do you have any photos of your accommodation at Cambridge? Also could you share your accommodation experience and how you found student life?
@AbbeyRobinss
@AbbeyRobinss 3 месяца назад
Thank you! I'm not sure I have great photos but overall I wasn't a huge fan of the accommodation. I think my year got unlucky because Kings had a lot of building work to renovate the accommodation whilst we were there so we ended up in the older / outdated rooms. But not all of it was bad, you get offered nicer rooms as you progress through the years. But other colleges are known for having much nicer rooms e.g. Jesus College.

hello, Wonderful video! I was just wondering in your opinion what’s the best Cambridge college to apply to (for Engineering) in terms of location and distance to and from lecture halls and labs as well as accommodation?
@AbbeyRobinss
@AbbeyRobinss 3 месяца назад
Thank you! Hmm, the engineering department is just off Trumpington Street so for closeness you're looking out Peterhouse, St. Catherine's, Corpus or Pembroke, but if you wanted a bigger college Queens and Kings are still walking distance away. Johns and Trinity are not much further, the engineering department is pretty central so you have quite a choice.

I'll be starting my PhD in ASNC or history and I'm curious what the social scene or opportunities are for those in their graduate studies. 🤔 I got King's College too which seems like a solid allocation.

Kings College actually have a grad suite which has a little kitchen/living room and study area and is only accessible to grads and 4th years, so this is a great way to meet other grads and socialise. There is also a grad society I believe which is again another way to socialise with people doing courses similar to you!

This is awesome, I hear Cambridge social life is great! Curious about your opinion for what methods are helpful to allow you the ability to divide hard stuff into optimal pieces of info?
@AbbeyRobinss
@AbbeyRobinss Год назад
Thank you! I wouldn't say I have a particular method, but if I was faced with a large difficult piece of work I would keep breaking it down into section/topics/steps until I could look at a chunk and not feel overwhelmed. Once at this point (if it was revision) I would use active recall methods (Q cards, exam Q) to learn each chunk in sections. If more of a piece of work then I would work through the steps I had created periodically taking each one as a separate smaller task. Hope this helps!

@@AbbeyRobinss Hi Thanks for reply. I assume that you are 22 or 23 years. I'm 23, and I still have to go to the University. I live in UK and I'd like to apply to Cambridge for Engineering. When you were at the Uni, have you had the interaction with mature students? Or is it just weird that Mature student cannot socialise with student younger than them?
