Pros & Cons of Living in Querétaro, Mexico // If you're thinking about moving to Mexico from the US, you've likely heard that one of the best places to live in Mexico for expats is Queretaro. But, what is living in Queretaro really like? In this video, I weigh some of the pros and cons of living in Queretaro based on what I missed (and didn't miss) during my travels around Europe earlier this fall.

Hey Alex, great video! Really enjoyed your perspective on the Queretaro public transportation situation and relative affordability of Uber. I'm probably like you -- I like to take transit as much as possible when I visit a city, but when I was in Queretaro in October, it was just all walking and a little Uber. But man, if they'd had a CDMX-style MetroBus that went out to Juriquilla/Antea Mall, I'd definitely have taken it! Also couldn't agree more about the friendliness factor. Even among the places I've been in Mexico, Queretaro is absurdly friendly. I mean practically EVERYONE greets you with a buenos dias/tardes/noches when you pass them on the street. It's crazy.

I have been enjoying your episodes since finding your channel. I am considering moving to Mexico from the US. I was wondering if you take out health insurance or if it is that cheap you can do without it. Would live a video on that looking at both healthy individuals or couples who may conceive while in country
@alex-wittman
@alex-wittman 2 года назад
Hi, Dan! I have health insurance with Grupo Nacional Provincial. I wouldn't recommend living in Mexico without health insurance as a major medical situation (including child birth) could really set you back. Paying for prescriptions and doctor appointments out of pocket is affordable, but something major, not so much.

Thank you for encouraging question. What companies are great for Americans to work for in Queretaro Remotely with basic customer service experience? Which apartment complexes and rental companies have: furnished utilities wifi all included and rent to Americans And allow large dogs? I have been searching on Airbnb and not many places have AC or heat; is the climate not hot or cold enough for central air? What are the names of towns next to but very similar to Queretaro? What is your average day, weekend look like? Do you shop at the big box stores for groceries or the open markets? I used to live in a very small town in Guanajuato and we frequently went to Apaseo el Alto and Celya but that was nearly 30 years ago. What other towns in the area do you feel would be a great for a remotely working American? Thank you in advance!

I literally laughed out loud at the pillow situation. 🤣 Anyway, thanks for the candid info on Querétaro. I plan to move there in January, as I'd done a scouting trip earlier this year. The limited availability of tree lined parks was one of my cons as well, because I hope to be outdoors more and I won't be getting a car so I need to be somewhere walkable.

Welcome back to this side of the pond. I like Europe. But there are things that I don't get like the German pillows or the cold and hot faucets in the UK's old bathroom sinks. I hate them. Also the European hotel rooms are so tiny, plain and expensive. About the bread, I think that Germans' staple food is the bread which is based on wheat. Mexico's staple food is the tortilla, which based in corn. so I would not compare breads. Mexican bread is not the staple food in Mexico. I think that it's natural that Germans excel in bread quality and flavor as it's also natural for Mexicans to excel at making tortillas (Corn or flour) or who doesn't love a handmade tortilla? But you're right you find good bread in Europe. The French are also excellent at making bread both sweet and plain but Germans excel at plain bread.

I'm hoping to move from Los Angeles to SMA or Querataro and have a lupus-like disease (found the right specialists in Querataro). But I need to make sure that I have some insurance coverage for it. We have a short list of 6 cities we think we may love, but will start in Queretaro because our daughter has a house there that sits empty and we have 4 senior dogs we will drive down from the Carolinas. We’ll have 2 years until I’m old enough to get social security, but being able to use our daughters house will take some out of pocket expense away until then. , then we hope to go live in the other 5 cities for a few months each…and check out Antigua and Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. I went to Queretaro Teo times : the first in a beautiful hotel that not have keys for the box security stolen my very nice jeweleries ( so upset ) . I broke my foot because the side walk are so so small so you need walk beside people , cars , 😢. In my second trip because my husband love Queretaro : We we’re intoxicated December 2022 with the food , outside of town in a special restaurant viñard . It was so terrible but more terrible will be go to the hospital because I read that the food in one hospital had gusanos . Believe for spends some days it is ok . But live . Recomend me please a great area because probably Central or historic turística it is not the more cool . Sinceramente . 😢

I guess Santiago de Querétaro is better with less pollution since it's a smaller city compared to Guadalajara, Monterrey, and of course Mexico City. Maybe safer too? Also, about 3 to 4 hours from Mexico city's international airport if you need to get to other countries. Fun fact: There were more illegal Americans living in Mexico than illegal Mexicans in America. In the 1800s thousands of Americans moved to Northern Mexico: California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas. They overstayed, and later declared independence later joining the States.

another con: the foul-smelling open sewers in the snobster, coffee-shop-and-bistro Alamos neighborhood in Querétaro... yes, the one with the fountain in the center of the street, and the Parroquia de la Immaculada Concepción de María. if you look down into them, you can see clothes hanging, wall decorations and other trappings of 'domestic' life. you can smell it for blocks, and sometimes miles, if the wind is just right.
