They felt it was "too experimental" 😂😂 imagine the Experimental Queens calling a song "experimental". If it doesn't make you use all of your brain cells on first listen, then there's something up with you.

The thing for me was it was so weird that It just instantly clicked for me and I loved it. For some they love it for others they hate it. Red velvet are super experimental and that can rub people the wrong way or for me it can strengthen my love for the group

Zimzalabim was the hit that divided the fandom in two parts. The ones who loved it (me ofc) and the ones who hated it. In my opinion I think the song need more than two times to get use to it, bcs for example in my case, the first listen I totally disliked the chorus, I was shocked bc it seemed offbeat but now for me it's one of the best songs red velvet has bcs it shows how versatile and experimental they are. Definitely an amazing song, and one of the best bridges of 2019.

Lol at your confused face..😂 This is the 'beauty' of Red Velvet (or SM groups in general). This song was actually made some years ago along with I Got a Boy (other most experimental song from SM). SM gave I Got a Boy to RV' senior group Girls Generation (you have to check them out) and kept Zimzalabim until they gave it to RV in 2019.

What can I say? Red Velvet is so VERSATILE. You gotta love them. STAN RED VELVET.

i gotta be honest my first impression of zzb was shock as well but ugh this song grew on me and ZIMZALA FREAKING BIM

I will be writing a large block of text (early warning if you are interested in zzlb discussion) But the way it works is "zimzalabim" is a word that is equivalent to "abracadabra" and the entire song is about escaping the square (not flat) world that encloses people in their routinely lives. So the point of the song is that the girls go to a theme park to kind of get away from the worries of the real world and end up going on a wild rollercoaster type of ride as you see in the MV. The song itself has an overabundance of switching to embody that rollercoaster in a musical sense. That is why when you get the zzlb chanting, it is almost like a precursor to them doing a super hard musical switch. When they get to the bridge, they then hit the part of the rollercoaster that typically slows you down and prepares you for the final leg of the ride with the ride cameras. Their crazy looking outfits embodies that when they are in this world outside of the square earth, they can be themselves entirely without fear of judgement. Try rewatching it with this perspective. I think it will make a lot more sense.

The roller coaster is significant. It's composed to be taking you on a journey, just as a roller coaster would. You have your moments of joy with the upbeat parts, you have the slow build up in the beginning like you're going up hill, you have the stall just before the drop with the bridge, the EDM dance break is like the middle of the ride where you let loose and just are having the time of your life, and the end combines it all which is why the Zimzalabim chanting gets a cheerier sound.
