Taemin is doing a melodic rap, forever destroying the idea that he can't rap. You also see why we say that Taemin is the best dancer of Kpop. One dancer who reviewed this today said he could already tell this was a very difficult choreo. Yet, Taemin makes it look so fluid and effortless. I'm pretty sure that alternating move (when you thought he was out of sync with the backup dancers) is intentional to show contrast and make him stand out. Taemin monitors every little detail of his MVs. If that had not been intentional, it wouldn't have been in there. He's almost fanatical about perfection...lol. For some inexplicable reason, Taemin gets a lot of hate. Just look at the down votes that always seem to appear on his MVs. It truly is people with small minds who just can't reconcile, comprehend, or admit that Taemin is in a league of his own; he can't be defined, and his artistry can't be touched. I like the black/white suit which seems to represent the duality of his personality, or that nothing is "black and white". In other words, don't spout off about what you know nothing about. I believe the small room and large Taemin is either him saying, "I'm too big to be confined to your small mind", or "Your pea-brain can't contain me". The car crash I see as him saying, "Watch me smash your idea of me...like when he says "Push my buttons...I'll show you the end." When he says, "You'll never get the keys of my lock" it seems he's saying haters will never reach inside him. However, as Taemin always has dual meanings to his lyrics, and he said this was connected to NGDA in the fact that this is the new him/ego that has emerged from the battle between "Criminal" and "IDEA", he could be referring to the toxic thoughts that were always spouted by his "Criminal"/original ego. Now that Taemin is free of that, he's putting that ego in his place and saying he will do things his way and not listen to his old ego's negative advice. He will listen to one advice - his own (the new Taemin). Just speculation on my part. Taemin does things "my way". He doesn't follow Kpop trends; he makes them, and he doesn't care about what is popular. He just wants to do the music he likes. Let's face it, Taemin is much bigger than just Kpop. As music critic Youngdae Kim said, ""He [Taemin] is one of the most unique and exemplary solo artist among all Korean music scenes." From "The Artist: Taemin". Taemin has a very big heart and loves everyone, so if this is also for those haters out there, then I'm glad he did this masterpiece because I hate to see him get hurt by little minds with nasty words.

Taemin told that Advice is the end of the chapter one of Taemin’s life as well as the beginning of the next chapter. The car crash could possibly signify the end and then the last frame with him standing in his signature pose while looking up can signify the start of a new era.....

TAEMIN represents what it is impossible to precisely define his approach to gender and role-playing in MV and choreography is so multidimensional and unpredictable that it is difficult to classify him into any specific genre.

Kasper's choreographies are always creative and artistic and Taemin and the back-up dancers executed it flawlessly. Big applause to all of them.

TLDR: I think the song is about not letting others tell you who you are or limiting yourself when you start believing that you will always only be who they tell you to be. IMO the concept of the song is Taemin voicing his disapproval of toxic media prying into the privacy of celebrities and how they tend to trap them into an image that they can't escape or break through. Him "destroying his torso" is about breaking their perception of him and escaping that innocent baby image that he had from the beginning of his career. And then when he says that he should take his own advice, it correlates with the scene of him being trapped in his own mind. Because of how other people portray him, he even doubts himself and he eventually internalized their message and puts himself in that box. This song is about breaking out of that box and expressing yourself the way you want to, and about how he has matured as an artist and as a person throughout his career.

KPOP KING TAEMIN appeared to give a 360 ° turn to the music industry, he has such a creative mind to innovate and break many stereotypes with dances, performances, create a "T-pop" musical style that only he can do and of the highest level. He always leaves the fence high and it is always he who surpasses it again. Absolutely no one does it like him, no one.

Definitely it's about the criticism celebrities get from the public - the media and the people on the Internet. If people calling idols "flops" and "losers" on the internet think that idols don't read their comments, now they know that they do. The line about the torso in my opinion is about people criticising him for tattooing his body, saying that he "destroyed" something they thought was theirs to obsess about. This is the first time he's shown his hip tattoo, that was being previously covered, for instance in his "Idea" MV.

The *torso* thing confused me a bit, but then I thought that maybe he's talking about being unapologetic, since usually you bend from your torso when you bow most politely. So by saying he destroyed the torso they're after, he's saying he won't bow down.

Aaron, the hip tattoo and the fact that he revealed it in this MV is very significant. Just in IDEA, he also wore crop tops but covers the tattoo, same in Criminal. Advice is like a conclusion to the trilogy series of Criminal, Idea and Advice combined as Taemin is letting the world know he has evolved and breaking the stereotypes or delusions both the industry and crazy fans have tried to project on him for his entire career. That hip tattoo definitely looks like a black rose to me and I feel his song, Black Rose from NGDA Act 1 really explains that and how he's embraced fully who he is and no longer subjecting himself to what others think of him. I think this is one of the most iconic final comebacks a korean artiste has ever done before he takes a break for his military service because it'll linger in the minds of everyone on what next to expect from him when he's back and how much void the industry will have with his absence Apart from the hip tattoo, I see he has two more, one on left rib side and another at the back. I'm sure he's gonna get more, lol and we'll also get to see them more I'm so glad I never undermined Taemin and his potentials since his maknae days with Shinee and how much the industry undermined his talents then, he has bloomed so well and now, like the torso description, he's no longer bowing down to what people want to perceive him as but he's taking his own advice to be who he is!

SHINee will be releasing a Japanese song in July. Taemin will be in that one despite him being away at that time. They filmed it today :)

I was thinking about the lyrics, and my theory for the lyric, "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after", is that Taemin always had a bit of an innocent, somewhat cute image because he was the youngest. I think alot of people were attracted to the innocent side of him, and liked him only because of the image that he had, and that they were more so chasing after the untouchable/untouched aura that he had, instead of him as a person or artist. In love with the idea of having him rather than in love with him. But, like in the lyrics for 'Pretty Boy', where he reiterates that, "I won't pretend to be innocent like a puppet", and "I may always seem pretty/good/nice/soft", I think by saying he 'destroyed the torso', it could mean, he now has tattoos on his torso, and so he is breaking away from the innocent image and becoming more than just what people labelled him as, more than just a "pretty boy idol". Since in some cultures, when people get tattoos, elders say that they destroyed their beautiful body. Perhaps Taemin is saying that he's destroyed that fantasy that people have of him, the innocent untouched image that was curated. And that destruction is symbolized by getting tattoos on his torso, essentially scarring what was once untouched/pure/pretty. Additionally, I think 'Advice' is a sequel to 'Pretty Boy' in a way, with lyrics around perception and judgement, e.g, "Rumors and Interceptions", "Everyone talks so easily", and "I'm above the imaginations in your head" (Pretty Boy) .vs. "Show your imagination in a more novel way" (Advice)

i took this song as being kind of an assertion that he knows he breaks boundaries in kpop, and that people talk. so he’s like. look. say what you want, you don’t understand me, and as hard as you try you will never have the full story. be careful before you push me too far, cause you haven’t seen that yet.

He's said its about gossiping and toxic media, specifically destructive or anti fans that speculate constantly. I also think it's meta-commentary on his own career and place in the industry, since he's struggled with his body image and the whole theme of his past 3 comebacks has been about breaking down and redefining his image as an artist. There's SO many layers in this mv/song, so much that nods to him as an artist...and by analyzing it, we become the subject of the song. It's GENIUS.

I think this song is all about his haters and antis and the media. the torso thing i think that its about his tattoos. as u have seen Taemin has a big Tattoo in his hip and another one in his inner arm and some people went crazy about it saying he ruined his body because Tattoos in Korea aren't seen in a positive light. The more I watch this MV, the more convinced I am that there are dual meanings and of the connection with NGDA, specifically "Criminal" and "IDEA". Taemin did say "Advice" is like the epilogue to those songs and his new beginning. Our first indication of this duality is the fashion of the backup dancers (half black; half white) and the first suit he wears (black in the front; white in the back). As with most of Taemin's MVs we have the surface meaning of him seemingly addressing his haters/saesangs and telling them he'll do things his way (including getting tattoos if he wants, "I destroy the torso you were chasing after", and taking his own advice", and so on. However, there are several connections with NGDA: 1) He wore a very similar head mask that only exposes his eyes for part of his photoshoot for NGDA (where he was on the car). 2) For his "IDEA" photoshoot, Taemin wore a black veil, "Even the veil that hides the smile inside the glass mask is lost." So now, the veil is gone and so is the "glass mask" that hid his inner smile. Taemin has recently been much more open, expressive, and happy than in the past. He used to hide his emotions and be shy during interviews and such, letting his SHINee hyungs speak instead. Even he said he's actually smiling too much lately...lol. In addition, now we can't stop him from talking (a good thing) and at the speed of light to boot, mixing Korean, English, & Japanese. 3) With NGDA, he also sported tattoos on his hands and face. This time, Taemin actually fully exposes his torso (usually he wears a jacket with just the middle of his torso showing). The tattoos are explosive, blanketing his torso and arms which include scuff marks and thorns, as if he's been through a battle. His fingers are blackened like he escaped a fire (the inferno and lava seen in "Criminal" & "IDEA".) We also finally get to see his waist/hip tattoo. I think he intentionally covered his tattoo before to reveal it here to make a statement. I'm free, and I'll show you I can do anything I want -- including getting a tattoo. (Wish I could see what it is though.) 4) In "Criminal", Taemin was both the protagonist and the victim. He was "leashed" by his dominant ego (the one he's had for 14 years). He was totally under the dominant ego's control, trapped within his own mind. "IDEA" gave us Taemin's climactic battle and victory. The new ego is finally free and eager to explore, break out of his introverted ways, and create the music he loves rather than what is expected by the industry. You can see allusions to this via the very large Taemin in a very small room basically saying I'm too big to confine. "The more you try to trap me, the more I'll go off the rails." Now he's exposing his large waist/hip tattoo proudly and showing it to the world regardless of how anyone feels; a blow to how an introvert usually behaves. 5) When Taemin is suspended in mid-air, broken at the waist, you may have noticed his hair appears to be short and the same silver color as in "Criminal". The "criminal" ego has been broken and dismissed. Until now, there was only One advice - that of the "criminal" ego. However, now there is only "my advice" that of the new, freed ego: "I'll take my own advice," and a threat, "If you want to see the end, push my buttons." and "I'll shoot the One advice." 6) It also appears as if the "criminal" ego is not happy about his loss and this transition of power. He is trying to reassert himself, as demonstrated by the lyrics of the bridge, "It's creepy, the drama you wanted." "Why are you crossing the line again?". However new ego is having none of it. He won't be trapped again. He's locked that old ego away, "you never get the keys to my lock", and It's best to take his own advice and destroy what's left by shattering the "criminal" ego (windshield and visions of collisions, crashed cars. In short, destruction). 7) Taemin's signature "T" pose at the end (for "IDEA" it was at the beginning) - resurrection; the end of an old era, and the beginning of the new. In any case, this is just what I think. I do know that I'm really going to miss him during this hiatus.
