Honest Real World Review of the Zero Breeze Mark II AC Unit | Used for Vanlife all Summer 2022

Opinions expressed are my own. I purchased this AC unit and am not affiliated with Zero Breeze in any way.
I decided to do this video review just before putting the AC unit into storage for the cooler seasons of the year. I used the Zero Breeze from May 2022 through October in my minivan build with success. I sleep out of my van at least 5 nights a week, and never ran out of power with my solar + battery bank setup (although I came close a few times!).
In short - the Zero Breeze worked exactly how I hoped it would for my use case, allowing me to comfortably sleep in my van even on hot summer nights. It is capable of working very well for that as a spot cooler on a signle person, but is not powerful enough to cool down a mini-van sized space during the day in summer heat.

The product creates some heat even with the hose connected to it. The best results would be keeping the zero breeze out of the vehicle but as close as possible so as to keep the hose length as short as possible. Another idea would be to insulate the heat side of the unit. At 2300 btu you want as little heat generation in the vehicle as possible. I have the eco flow wave 2 it blasts some cold air. But the unit gets warm from the condenser exhaust . I built a stand that mounts on my rv window still. Half of the unit is inside the hot side it outside. This is when I'm trying to get the most out of the units abilities....

The custom vent work is pretty slick.

I see you have both hoses on the rear of the unit going out of the vehicle. I think if you put the suction one in the vehicle so it circulates the air it should work better. I saw another guy that also said they both are supposed to vent out but that just doesn't make sense.
@surfingdwedge
@surfingdwedge 4 дня назад
@@jonathonking1629 they both are supposed to vent in/out. Those hoses circulate air over the condenser and are only for cooling that, none of that air is blown into the van. The intake on the front of the a/c unit behind the grille sucks in air to cool and blow out at you with the other hose.

I think zerobreeze is more lightweight and compact about 16.5pounds, ecoflow ‎32 pounds

Might as well get a cheap portable one that goes in the house at least they can cool down a room.. so that small space you could cool down alot faster

I have both this model and ecowave 2, and I prefer the zero breeze. It's real ac with small power draw.

I have ecoflow wave 2 with the battery. If your space is small I can see where you are coming from. I love my wave 2 it's a bit bulky but I have the room in my small class c motorhome. I also have the waykar 4500 btu portable ac. I use that in the rear bedroom. I can run them both from my 1000 watt inverter at the same time. I didn't think it was possible but they both ran. I do have 400 amp hour of battery.

How did you build and attach the vent box that keeps you stealthy?

I mean eco flow wave beat this easy, but thx for the review, only benefit of this would be it draws less power, but me having the delta pro it does not really matter anyway for me, I do wonder though how long you could last with this and delta pro with full blast.
@surfingdwedge
@surfingdwedge Год назад
This should get about 2x more runtime than the delta wave. No doubt the wave is more powerful, but is also bigger and uses more energy. Not sure how big that battery bank is, but could estimate run time by taking your banks capacity in watt hours and diving by 200. For example my bank is 3600wh. 3600/200=18 hours run time.

It almost looks like your exhaust and intake are too close together…. The exhaust and intake are going into your box that has such a little slit. Is the box at least divided inside? Perhaps it is only cooling down 30 degrees of that hot exhaust air….
@surfingdwedge

@@DuneSpice it’s divided and insulated.

Are you going through the inverter or is it wired dc to dc?

I am going through the inverter on this. Could wire DC for a bit more efficiency.

You lost me at “2300 btu can’t effectively cool your mini van.” Even at night it has to blow directly toward you? That’s not an air conditioner. At 2300 btu it should have the capacity to remove the moisture from the air in your tiny living space and cool the entire area effectively.
@TwistedOmYoga

It’s a powerhouse at its size. I don’t think you comprehend, it’s a tiny compressor based AC. Have had mine for almost two years and it’s been one of the best purchases EVER. I run it on one battery on sleep mode low fan, that thing freezes us out in our roof top tent. Do with that information what you will 😂
@surfingdwedge
@surfingdwedge 3 месяца назад
My minivan is not insulated at all. It does keep the edge off and keeps me cool at night. It’s not going to cool like a 20,000 btu car AC 😂.
@logankidd3107
@logankidd3107 3 месяца назад
@@surfingdwedge I suppose the lack of insulation would be the reason. I have 8 years experience as an AC tech. I would never compare u to your unit to a household unit. I was comparing it to the 115 sq ft that 2300 Btu should effectively cool.
@surfingdwedge
@surfingdwedge 3 месяца назад
@@logankidd3107 makes sense. I’d wager the net Btu is considerably less than 2500 when the unit is in the space it’s cooling since heat radiates from the hoses. Insulating the hoses may help max it out. This thing has a very specific use case imo and it works the way I’m using it. Never would expect it to cool down my van like a household AC.

It's marketed as unit to use with tent camping and once again we see a review that was performed in a low or no humidity situation. Can this keep a tent cool, NO. Can this unit work as advertised in a high humidity area such as the Mississippi Delta or northeastern Kansas on a 100 degree week, NO. Why is it these positive reviews are prefaced with the reviewer saying they are not connected with the company and then a they do a BS review? Even this reviewer says it doesn't work but he would buy it again, that stinks to me. I guess it's OK if you are sitting in your van in your driveway, in low humidity heat with your doors and windows open for less than 10 minute. I saw one review on the retailers website where the test was done in a small INSULTED tent in a 80 degree shop with zero humidity. The reviewer talked a lot but didn't address how this would preform in real world applications such as a cheap ass 6 person tent in humid conditions.

I never said it doesn’t work. It works well for my use case as a spot cooler at night. I just say don’t expect it to be a powerful AC. I’d agree the way it is marketed it extremely optimistic. It’s a weak AC that uses low amounts of power. Looking at the energy use and BTUs anyone can come to that conclusion. Can’t defy physics. I have been using for 2 years now during summer at night. I never used it in a tent so I won’t comment on its use in that case. It definitely won’t work on a 100 degree week during the day, but will keep the edge off at night. You should look at 8000-12000 BTU ac if you want something that will cool a tent or van space the way you seem to be looking for. Will need a generator or massive battery bank.
@1020donny
@1020donny 3 месяца назад
@@surfingdwedge You you made up the phrase "spot cooler". When reviewing a "air conditioner" that is target marketed for use in a tent you purposefully avoided addressing the product and it's claimed purpose. The reality is the product doesn't work as advertised and will not work in high heat high humidity conditions. It's basically a scam.
@surfingdwedge
@surfingdwedge 3 месяца назад
@@1020donny I did make that up, because that’s how i use it in high summer heat since my van won’t fully cool down. It’s uninsulated. Just giving my realistic review and use case. Best of my knowledge they never claimed to keep up with 100 degree heat in the sun in an uninsulated structure. Claiming that on 2300 BTUs/240watss would be scammy. The sun does approx 400-600btu per sq ft/hr of heating on surfaces during the day in the conditions you’re describing. That’s like 14-20000 Btu on an uninsulated tent or car. This AC cannot defy physics. Get a bigger AC with more BTUs that sucks down more power if that’s what you need.
