Since I have two 12ah EGO batteries that came with the new snowblower, I decided to get their 800 CFM backpack leaf blower before the leaves fell this fall. I'm doing my leaves and I'll take you along with me to see exactly how good this thing works, how long the batteries last, and a warning regarding if you should decide to get one yourself.
CORRECTION: The price for the blower in the video with batteries is for 6 ah ones not 10 ah. Oops. Thanks for pointing that out commenter jlev23...

Great review! In his wrap up, his honest opinion gives you things to think about when buying a backpack leaf blower.

Thanks for posting this review. I just purchased this blower as well (I also have the same handheld 650CFM blower as you and I also just purchased the 28” snowblower). Just as background, I have had EGO products for probably 7 or more years, including the 42” zero turn mower and a bunch of their other products such that I no longer have any ICE lawn equipment. I purchased the backpack blower with the 6 AMP batteries (by the way, the price you quoted is with 6 AMP batteries - the model with 10 AMP batteries retails for $1,299!). This replaced my older 600CFM backpack blower. I concur the difference in the power is very noticeable. I have a decent-sized yard and get a tremendous amount of leaves. So far, I am quite happy with it. I can start with the 6s, switch to the 12s from the snowblower during recharging and I should easily get through my entire yard, cleaning up the street leaves, etc. I thought the extra weight would be an issue, but for some reason, this feels more comfortable than my older, lighter backpack blower. I will be curious once you get some snow as to your thoughts on the 28” snowblower. Can’t wait to use mine.

Yes, I said 10 and it's 6 amp. Changing the whole video would be a huge endeavor. I have hopes for the 2 stage. I've got an Ariens now that has been trouble free for 23 yrs. I don't hold out that much no cost longevity for the EGO but I'm going to be positive!

I bought the 24" snowblower last season, literally used it once for a very light snowfall just to see how it did, then we got nothing for snow the rest of the year. My driveway really requires a 28" unit and I would have waited until this year had I known it was coming (had 28" Ariens before that), so now I am going to sell the 24" EGO unit once we get closer to winter.@@CraftsmanontheLake

I just used this on my yard ( corner lot half acre) this has been by far the best leaf blower I've owned. I know some high end gas blowers are a bit more powerful but i love the ego ecosystem and this performed well. My lot is difficult for leaves because theres always wind fighting me if it wasn't for that it would be so easy with this. I may have to get those huge 2000+ cfm wagons for my yard but im very satisfied with this ego blower. I use the 12 amp batteries from snow blower.

Nice one. I been raking today. Huge maple trees here and lots more leaves to come down yet. Hope you and Joyce are doing well. Thanks for this review. 😊

I have been running these ego blowers. One only bad issue is the cable that runs from the handle to the blower part. It’s very delicate and rips easily. Cable is very thin kind of like a computer cable. And to replace you have to take apart the whole thing. The blowers are kinda disposable.

Great review. I do think your assessment of battery replacement doesn't consider the likelihood that future batteries could be smaller, more powerful, lighter and cheaper. Demand will push price for a while but economies of scale and new tech should tip the balance in our favor 5+ years out. Currently I own their 16" chain saw, pole saw, string trimmer, tiller and 650 blower. The blower is the only one I am disappointed in because of power and very limited run time (it burns through batteries). Seriously considering this one as a replacement. Thanks for the review!

I am hopeful, but they’ve only gone up in the last five years so I think it’ll take another five before we see much of a change if that but fingers crossed that would be nice

Dan … I hope this comment finds both you and Joyce doing well, staying warm and being happy. Love your “bib pants”. In my neck of the woods, we call them bib overalls and I have worn both varieties (indigo and black & white painters bib overalls) since I was four (and I have the pictures to prove it). Now that I am fully retired, they are my pants of choice between October and May. (They are just too hot in the oppressive Texas summer heat and humidity!!!). They look really really good on you!!! So good, in fact, that I may just have to make an honorary Texan out of you!!! Hee! Hee! Hee! Another excellent video and outstanding review!!! Now, you keep making them and I’ll keep watching them. Y’all take care, be safe and God bless!!! Chuck Knight formerly from Buffalo, Texas and now from Atascocita, Texas. ✝️👨‍🌾🙏🎅🖖

I've been doing that here in Utah. I have mainly maple trees with their big leaves. You made me feel good that I have an inexpensive corded Harbor Freight leaf blower. It blows as good if not a tad better than the battery one you have. Yes, it would be nice to have a battery powered one, but it's only used once a year. I have been working in bibs my adult life. I have work bibs and semi-formal clean bibs. I used to like Penney's Big Mac Square Backs but I can't find them anymore. I now have been buying Big Smiths.

Yes, I've used corded ones for a long time. The Worx 800mph one is pretty impressive. The cords are cumbersome especially since for a good blower you need #12 wire for long lengths.

Yes I use only 12 gauge extension cords and I have 120 volt outlets all around the house.@@CraftsmanontheLake

@@kevinholland4156 Yes, that arrangement makes it work. I didn't have that many outlets. It was creative extension cords through windows in the house... not fun.

Is it powerful than the 765 cfm handheld one ? The 765cfm one speed is 200 mph . This 800 cfm speed is only 190 mph . I read all of the negative reviews said battery degrade so quick and doesn’t last long . That is only thing that stop me from buying this .

I have the 650 so can't speak for that. I do know the 8000 seems about 30% better than my hand held. The two 12ah battery longevity is much better.

It's also ready to 22 Newtons, essentially Newtons is more important than CFM in miles per hour. It must have a high Newton Force that's why it blows so well.

Anywhere I’ve looked the 800CFM blower costs $699 with a pair of 6.0AH batteries and $1299 with a pair of 10AH batteries. There was an open box at Lowe’s for $499 with the pair of 6.0 AH’s near me. I didn’t buy it but a day later changed my mind, went back to get it and it was gone.

Thanks, and yes you're right. Early on after posting, I noted, in the description, the error of me saying 10ah instead of 6ah in the video. Changing the video after uploading is not possible. The amps and the price are as you noted.

Put that 650 in the other hand ….its heavy that way but it blows very cool with the short nozzle …..you can aim it at the door and blow all the leaves to the backpack …..

Can you try uneven batteries? For example have one 10ah with a 6ah. Does performance die off when the 6ah is low?
@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake 11 месяцев назад
Mixed messages on this. EGO says it's fine but recommend 5ah or greater minimum as the ah draw is higher. It seems that it drains from both equally then takes from the other. You can run with one battery so I don't see why two even if uneven wouldn't be fine.

These are so expensive with extra batteries. And super short run time on turbo and less power than an echo 9010 w 1100 cfm. Not feasible for larger commercial areas. But more than adequate for home use.

I may have to go the electric blower route. I'm a landscaper by trade. There is more and more towns mandating electric and banning gas. I want to get the most powerful electric blower.
@CraftsmanontheLake
@CraftsmanontheLake 5 месяцев назад
I see landscapers online with trailers with banks of batteries in a commercial battery charger. EGO make a Commercial series. This unit is one of those but there are others and they make a commerial charger system that does multiple batteries in one long wall mounted unit at once.
