Honest Review: Fortnite Quick Weapon Swap...Is It Game-Changing? 

The best thing about quick weapon is that it gives you an extra button, which I use for jumping. So now I don't have to take my hands off the stick when trying to jump, it's basically a scuff controller

I use quick weapon, jump with L1, total game changer for me. Everyone on controller should give it a chance

I LOVEEE the quick weapon swap. Freed up my L2 and if you have inventory preferences set the muscle memory comes pretty quick. Puts you almost at the same speed as a KBM player with weapon swapping

love that you did a vid on this, Buddy! i'm pretty new to FN (just started playing back in December) and i only started using QWS in the last couple of weeks. gotta say...i dig it a lot right now. not having put in tons of hours with the OG cycle through with L1/L2, i was able to adapt to it pretty quickly and it feels even better than the default-ish setup i had going. getting the right bind customization has been a journey, but the closer i get to the perfect combo, the more i like it 👍

Like the others here you really need to set L1/left bumper as jump, honestly it's so good. Finally us filthy controller casuals can aim and jump at the same time.

I agree with your conclusion. I feel like for ppl who just couldn't feel comfortable with the old way of swaping weapons this is great, but that's not me and while at times I still get griefed because things don't swap how I want trying to change now would just confuse my head

It definitely isn’t perfect but the main benefit is freeing up the LB to use so you have an extra button you can use without having to take your hands off the stick, especially when you have a gatekeeper and every shot has to count😅😂 Awesome video keep up the good content!😎

Iit took me a while to get this down but when fortnite took it away for that day or two I literally couldn't play the old way. I didn't think to use L1 for jump though cuz I press L3 sometimes when I don't want to

Great video! I’ve heard they’re still updating quick weapon so in the future you may have the option the disable square, triangle, circle & X and just make it d pad. I changed to quick weapon and haven’t gone back tbh. It takes time to get the muscle memory down but once you do it’s much faster imo. The regular swapping felt limiting with the delay in between swapping items. It’s easier not having to constantly look down at my inventory or count out my taps to ensure I don’t launch a med kit at my opponent.

Interesting. I do tend fumble weapon swapping on occasion. Quick weapon sounds worth a shot.

Always love seeing another take on it. To start I never list ANYTHING as game changing personally. These are all variations on preference and what works best for each player. Overall, once I adjusted to it, I prefer Quick Swap over normal Next/Previous weapon swap. I'm sensing there are some differences based on default button mapping between Playstation and Xbox controllers. I play on an Elite Series 2 with 4 bumpers. I personally did not have any bindings to Place Marker in my instance. Also, you did miss one other setting under "Controller Mapping". You can pick which button activates the Quick Weapon feature. On Xbox Elite, the default is RB which is what I left it as. My personal settings are: - Show Diamond Delay = Disabled - Toggle Behavior = Slot 2 - Instant Toggle = On The instant single click swap to Shotgun and single click swap between Shotgun and Slot 2 is VERY nice in my opinion. While I organized my custom weapon slots already to take advantage of this, I would sometimes notice it when swapping to heals or mobility items which I would tend to have in Slots 3 and 4. I use the Instant Toggle to go between Slots 1 and 2 and then hold RB and hit the appropriate button for Slots 3-5. I would argue that mis-selecting the slot is equally as likely using Quick Swap as with the original method. In Quick Swap, I might in the moment choose the wrong key when I'm trying to swap to Slots 3, 4 or 5. But with the original method I would often "over shoot" the slot by rapid pressing the weapon swap buttons too quickly. In short, it takes effort to get familiar with. I think it's worth it to have one click jump to specific slots. I prefer it. But I could easily go back to the original method as well.

I concur. I wish u could customize a bit more. I wouldnt even mind if the left paddle just swapped between 1-2. Then the right just goes right.

Yea, I never liked weapon wheel swapping systems in games... Also would there not be some kind of extra input delay using this feature? I think tapping right bumper/R1 twice to get to slot 3 will still be quicker... as long as you got the weapons in the same slots consistently when you play... even with the new swapping system probs still a good idea to have weapons in same slots your used too.. Im so used to just swapping the normal way, I dont see the point in switching it at all... If your a person who does not like the regular swapping method... then it might be a better method for some players... and its cool they added this as an option ... Personally im not gonna switch to it...

I have just started using a 4 bcak paddles was wondering if i can congif them n not bind to other buttons

Using paddles, So you could assign jump to L1 and then assign your back paddle to L1 to free up X? This should work right?

I use it exclusively without the diamond. I use R1 to switch between slot 1 and 2. The I hit B plus Y for slot 3 and the B plus A to get slot 5. B alone is slot 3. This is amazing. I would never use the diamond. This is on a elite pro 2 Xbox controller.

Is there a way to set the weapon optopns on the wheel to something other than the face buttons?

I love it personally. I know I always have my shotgun and secondary weapon whenever I need it without any misclicks

I always thought this would be good but I’m hesitant to use because I don’t want to be taking my thumb off the stick to swap weapons.

As a person who plays on quick weapon and is unreal I say make the switch it’s quicker

I push R3 as my option and I use back paddles for X & O and claw for triangle. Literally never touch LB or RB

It's just practice bro. You're 10x better than me, and I NEVER pull out the wrong weapon after like a week or so of practice. Quick weapon let's me take all my movement binds off my L3/R3, which I love. The L1 bind is slide for me (not ping), square (left back paddle) is sprint, X (right back paddles) is jump. Plenty of people flub buttons when new. After a week or so, I just got muscle memory to hit R1 and Circle/Square/X/Triangle, or whatever, at the exact same time and don't think I've ever pulled out the wrong thing in months

I would hate changing a core function like this, as it would probably take a while for me to adapt to it. It does look like it might be very helpful for controller players, though. Being able to swap to your sniper or a mobility item in an instant, vs having to scroll through three items is pretty cool. It also frees up a button, which means I could finally have an extra bind for jump besides x. I might give this a try one day. It seems like a decent option that has been hated on maybe a little too much?

Ok cool, someone who actually made a vid on this. I’ve used QW from day one, and here’s MY review. You should listen: 1. QW is R2 (replaces Previous Weapon), Fire is R1, Jump is R3, Pickaxe/Next Weapon is Triangle. I use Scuf Reflex Pro w/4 back paddles; each paddle is mapped to all four face buttons. 2. Hit R2 and designated paddle for instant weapon I choose w/out scrolling. Disabled QW diamond and have Instant touch on for immediate shotgun. Total game changer for me. Wouldn’t play any other way. Took me a few minutes in Creative to get mechanics down, but I’m sold. People knock it, I love it. Rock on, dude. 😎

I like QWS (Quick Weapon Swap)... I just wish that LB could be another quick swap slot # for another option... like quick swap from main to sniper or mobility slot.. then RB for main to slot 2 (SMG or AR)

What happens when you configure your weapon slots

I did a double take when I saw my comment to your previous video at 12 seconds in this one. I’ve been using quick swap for about 8 weeks now and I wouldn’t want to go back to the old way. Ideally, I’d love to have quick swap on R3 (the stick) and jump on L3 but when I get into a fight I constantly press them accidentally. My compromise was to have quick swap in R1 and jump on L1 (I’ve had jump in L1 for a long time anyway). I don’t even notice the diamond pop up, I just have 0.00 delay set. I didn’t like having to take my hand off the right stick to press 🔺⭕️❌ so I did mess around on PS4 by going into the PS4 settings, accesabilty, and swapping those buttons to the D-pad. It works fine in game but it’s very confusing out of the game. As I said on my original post, if you have 4 back buttons, you can have one as the quick swap, and map the other back buttons to the 🔺⭕️❌ so that you have a back button for each weapon. I hope somebody finds this useful.

Is anyone else experiencing swapping and physically holding say a smg but your shotgun is highlighted and you pressed to swap to the other weapon but its just doesnt? ( I know its experimental i think this might be a bug )

Why Does Toggle Sprint turn on with this feature on? Is there a way to turn it off, I have the setting off but it’s still on with quick weapon switch

Personnaly, I'm still a fresh Fortnite Player I started using it pretty fast after my beginnings and I can't play whiteout it, It's juste perfect for me.

Quick weapon I would say is “same, but different” as far as how good it is vs regular weapon swapping. I don’t think it’s “better” per se, but it’s definitely better for some people. I would say it’s probably better for non paddle controllers. That being said I’m still on standard DS and don’t use quick swap because I’m a dweeb 🤓

Upshall uses this and swears by it. He made a video on it that may help you.
