Similar speed so it goes to ergonomics... One has a bigger handle for larger hands.. Also one has an lcd screen which is harder to read in the dark but easy to read in the sun while also using very little battery life.. The other has oled which uses a lot of battery life while being hard to read in bright sun but easy to read in the dark and at extreme angles of view.. I don't know what batteries they use but I prefer AA etc.. For Somthing like this as they can be replaced with ease and last a long time with such use.. Time will tell how well the new one lasts but in the past many of those Chinese single colour oled panels have not had a good life expectancy compared to full color oleds used in phones..
Maybe it will be coming for the Typhur, but one factor that can demand the price for the Thermopen One is it's NSF Certified. When restaurants and commercial kitchens have health inspections, they are sometimes required to use NSF certified equipment. It's like a UL listing for food, beverage, water, consumable stuff. The cheaper $20-30 thermometers are fine for the typical home cook, backyard BBQ enthusiast that do not require NSF certification.
I’ll grab the second gen typhur when they put something on it to protect the probe. The reason people spend the extra on thermapen has always been “buy once cry once”. That doesn’t work if the thing isn’t ultra durable.
I personally like the new 1 better. The case and the screen sold me. I have 1 I paid 25.00 for that I really like because it has a plug that I can plug in its external probe that I use for the crockpot and grill and it has an alarm that let's me know it's chow time. Do a giveaway every month and by 2030 you have just a few thermometers left. 😊
