The vets part is sooo underrated and undervalued. I remember in the Chris Herren doc Unguarded him saying the only sober year was with Nuggets became he had great vets that held him to certain rules.
This is by far the best advice I heard and not just being an athlete, but just being a young man to the world, and this goes out to all to the young ones outside of professional sports
But like he said, they need to be willing to listen. You can have this video on repeat on the team plane, bus to the hotel, and locker room. If they not ready to hear it, and truly listen, it won’t matter. In one ear & out the other.

Listening to Matt Barnes reminds me so much of my oldest brother schooling my other brothers who were all older than me but young to the world. Use to eavesdrop on my bros convos. Over heard locker room talk and lessons in life. Young men really need the elders to help them navigate and train them to be disciplined.
That’s the thing I don’t ever feel bad for people like this, like one thing I respect lebron for is that he found the one and they stayed together, all this people think that money provides avenue to women but instead they end up with gold diggers that would leave them in an instant

Some of these women are professional NBA moms. They get pregnant and get child support for years. I remember a story about a woman who was an NBA mom. She would get pregnant and wa-la. Some other woman just get the guy for the money and the goods.

The best point made by Barnes is that the NBA no longer has "veterans" on teams. For years, the league had at least one or two guys who were well into their 30s and was able to guide the younger players (see Charles Barkley & how Moses Malone educated him). But now the league is so young, maybe even too young. And that's why some of these guys get into bad situations now.
But do women learn when they bump their head or is that young man at risk because of his potential? He'll be really great for her for a while, but when his confidence peaks, we will see a new version of a man she might not expect.
Older women are the smarter play sometimes whether you a pro or not. They come with less drama most times in some ways. Sure most are divorced and got drama there but outside that they know what you here for and they ain’t making you play no games. I’m 26, summer last year I had a rotation of 3 Hispanic housewives. Great season, and when I cut it off there were no late night texts or pregnancy rumors. No expectations no strings attached.
Just like in regular society. Whether u like it or not, it boils down to where the guys come from. Two parent homes will make a difference when it comes to finances and falling for these gold diggers.
