Unpopular Opinion: Mel is indeed holding her tongue, but not for the reasons Joe gave. For decades women have spoken about the predatory nature of grooming and EVERY TIME the conversation is had (most men will be quiet but...) there is always at least one man who will say that it's not predatory, and come up with a negative reason that a woman is bringing it up. For example, they'll say the woman is jealous, or mad because she can't get with a younger man, or that the young woman is grown and can make her own decisions "Stop Infantilizing younger women" ect. It is OBVIOUS that Mel thinks this situation with Draya is predatory, but she knows that if SHE the woman says it, that even though it is the EXACT same dynamic that women have been calling out men for, her words will be used against women who try to call it out in the future. Men will say "women do it too" and site HER (Melissa's) words as a source to justify their argument whlie subconsciously ignoring that it is still wrong. However, if she lets the men explain why this is predatory then all of the BS gaslighting that men have done over the years when women have called it out gets exposed, and their words will now justify women's argument. I also believe that JOE KNOWS that if one of the men said it that it force them to ADMIT that men who do this are JUST as wrong which would alienate some of his male audience because men have been able to justify this by gaslighting, and never calling other men out. In situations where men admit that some of the behavior deemed normal for men is wrong, men as a group get upset with those men and either attack them, or disassociate them selves. Joe wanted to have Melissa do his dirty work, and have her be the one "hold women accountable" while actively allowing all the men who have done this for centuries to avoid taking accountability. This is a very common caveat of patriarchy that Melissa is clearly aware of and that is why she was tactful with her response.
