Honest Thoughts from a Long-Time AR 60 Genshin Player

AR 60 is where things ramp up for Genshin players. And by ramp up, I mean a ramp up in the amount of sanity that you lose, trying to grind and better your characters for a percent at a time, with kind of little to no variety of the types of things that you'd be doing in the game on a daily basis.
I just had a lot of thought about this game, and I thought to myself, what better way to deal with the piling complaints than to just vent it all out in a video?
In all seriousness, I love this game, and I ultimately made this video as a discussion point for people to gather around and try to see if there are things that truly ALL of us want to see get put in the game. Of course, there's a sprinkling of my own personal complaints, but that's just me going on a rant, ehe.

RIGHT? I'd be p1ssed if they included one of my favorite characters on the cover of an event only to appear briefly at the end of an event. You're completely right about this. And yeah Diluc hasn't appeared in forever and I was glad he appeared here but... it was just as short-lived as seeing Jean. Sucrose had much more of a spotlight than she did
@GoatLiffy

At this point, "filler" characters are the main characters while the ones who actually has any importance to the story just gets thrown on the wayside due to, "screentime diversification"...

Yeah! I'm still wondering where Jean is in the new event. I wished characters from different regions showed more often in archon quests /events.

@@GoatLiffy but why would they put the characters that have no idea about the matter , i didnt play the event yet but you say that there was a lot of sucrose in it , she is an alchemist s assistant and lisa is probably smartest person in mondstadt other than albedo with his abyss knowledge and venti being a god . Genshin prefers to have its main characters that are shown entire event and then some support cast that will appear only to show some character interactions and make world feel more alive . Why would someone like jean or diluc be a main characters in a event about alchemy , once we get dornman port and varka returns , this will be the time to see how will they use characters that are actually important to the mondstadt story like jean or diluc
@GoatLiffy
@GoatLiffy 2 месяца назад
@@generaltoszur1036 That... was my entire point. Jean had nothing to do with the event so why put her on the front page? Sucrose appeared so much and it MAKES sense, cause she is an alchemy assistant, she SHOULD've been the one on the front page. It's weird that Albedo didn't appear at all when he is the chief alchemist of all people. My complaint was they put one of my favorite characters on the event page, but one, didn't make her relevant to the event, and two, also didn't make sense to have her there when there are other characters that had a lot more presence in the event. It just felt like such a cop out chocie to put her there. You mentioned Genshin has main characters, in Mondstadt it doesn't get more main character than being their two biggest protectors in Diluc and Jean, yet guess how much screentime they had since 1.6? Virtually none. While "support" characters like Sucrose, Mika, Noelle, has had so much attention given to them.

I started playing during 3.8 and honestly the worst thing about genshin so far is how daunting it is. Being 4 nearly 5 nations behind in archon quests and so many playable characters left me lost. I rushed through the liyue and inazuma archon quests trying to catch up and nearly quit because of it. im glad i realized i don't need to be caught up with everything and can go at my own pace. now instead of rushing quests i tend to just explore.

I get you! Recently, some of my friends who left a while ago started playing again just to have a chance at getting Arlecchino. Thing is, they stopped for a while and they did so before hitting AR 45, which blocks so many pathways to endgame content and materials. Having to watch them trudge through the game again, and seeing how muddy their progress really put things into perspective for how unfriendly this game can be to people who left for a lil while, and how it could to those who just started. Taking things in your own pace is great, and it should be how the game is played! Hope you can find in it you to keep enjoying the game for the foreseeable future :D

I am a day 1 player and I am not even half way thru AR 59 lol, I have like thousands of story + side + hangout quests that I still havent done, and I havent explored even half of the whole map yet. I think 2 major reasons are first I also play a lot of games, I cannot invest all my time on genshin, I play max 2 hrs everyday and now with my life getting busier only 1 hr max, second I enjoy playing tcg….I usually just spend my time on tcg instead of exploring and doing quests. Ik not a lot of ppl play tcg, but I think it is worth trying out

Considering there's no sprint stamina and everyone runs at the same pace regardless of their build, it definitely would've made for an easier open world experience as well :p
@kelly2631
@kelly2631 2 месяца назад
I've noticed an interesting debate around sprint mechanics in video games, and given that I'm a Halo fan as well, I've played games from the same series that have completely different ways of handling sprint and stamina. Allow me to ramble a bit: If sprint takes no stamina, then it isn't sprint. It will just become the new default walkspeed. Having stamina to constrain sprint duration (and climbing duration) can give players the illusion of freedom of movement while giving developers a way to control the boundaries of the map without artificially adding borders to the map boundary. It is also what makes climbing feel rewarding (well, early on, at least). Having an infinite climb will mean that players will just add climbing to their list of basic movements, like walking and jumping, and some environmental obstacles would just be nullified entirely. Restricting climbing to a limited duration almost teases players into finding ways to get around the limitation, such as climbing up the cliff to the wolf boss in Mondstadt, or climbing to the tops of buildings in the Court of Fontaine. It would feel like you are cheating with the rules that the game had set, rather than "oh, I was always supposed to be able to get up here anyway." Giving players an infinite climb would cause them to take it for granted, and it becomes much harder to balance rewarding players for exploring and the effort required to get to that spot in the first place. Of course, it just becomes annoying to more experienced players, since they know that their route is viable, but if only they could take that route at full speed instead. One solution that some games take is to allow players to eventually unlock infinite stamina in the late game, and save the balancing for the early game, when players still had a sense of exploration instead of "i wanna get to the domain/daily commission/event as fast as possible." I'm honestly not sure how they could rebalance that for genshin outside of allowing players to eventually unlock infinite stamina, at the cost of breaking almost all reward from exploration.
@dasytaylor
@dasytaylor 2 месяца назад
My strategy for beating the repetitiveness of dailies is when I'm exploring, I mark down the chests instead of opening them right away and when I don't have rewards to claim from events, I go back to the chests quickly. This helps me not feel burnt out and have more options to do when I log in. I am also starting to feel the lack of endgame content, especially since I've seen how Star Rail handles it way better. I hope they do something about it. Also I agree, the Parametric Transformer is ass, you get about 60 resin's worth of stuff every week. I feel like the teapot is a bit underutilized too.

I'm a day 1 player lmao, and I'm STILL not ar60. (I'm at ar59, 280k exp out of 340k) I've never really become tired of genshin, i can only recall one period of time when i was really burnt out. that was all the patches from 2.5 to 2.8 (except 2.7, that patch was amazing). three realms gateway started it all off, but by the time the summer event was here i was so drained that i really didnt care about sumeru. one thing im glad ive done over these 3 and a half years is take things slowly, day by day, at my own pace. i never rush building characters, and use fragile resin very sparingly. I'm only now starting to catch up on my exploration, and thats only bcs 4.5 is such a dead patch (the only place i have at 100% is inazuma and dragonspine. that will change soon since im making rapid progress) thats enough of my ramblings, but for me genshin has been a very enjoyable experience. the moment you start to rush content or character progression, then the discontentment settles in great video though man, earned a sub from me

But I'm quite competitive with friends, mixed with minor OCD.. it really pushes the completionist in me to grind a game that has very limited content, which has led to me taking big breaks due to burnout. The end of inazuma for a few months, and then 3.6-4.2. But now I'm on the last push, one month to go! And then I'm gonna primo dump on furina rerun (hopefully c2 with weapon), and then I'm out! One point that I would like to bring up, while not necessarily the player's problem to sort out, is the fact that a lot of the events that include major characters are voiced. Due to Genshin being a live service game, all these events are time-gated, meaning they need to get voicing done in several languages all within the same time frame, or very far in advance, which may result in some issues. As far as I am aware, a lot of the voice actors and actresses featured within Genshin have roles outside this game, meaning they might be busy with other projects; or in some extreme cases (like with the recent passing of the KR Cyno VA) they become unavailable. I have no evidence to back this up, but, I think it might be logical to assume that a lot of the characters chosen for events may lead down to who is available at the time.

If in genshin I could play with dull blade till AR40, then in hsr I had to level up my weapons and talents to characters level to be able to progress somehow💀

It's basically the same with any on-going games, players can't expect to have new content every week or month. Same goes for full-priced games, eg dragon dogma 2 came more than a decade after the 1st one, not a month or two. Just take a break and go play other games, watch some movies etc. Also, just like irl relationships, if someone lost interest, the interest will most probably won't come back and will do/say anything(like saying the game is bad etc) to justify themselves. Same for vice versa.

We do offer solutions, or at least say what type of pieces of content that we actually want. The biggest example of recent lackluster additions was the "custom loadout" feature. It shouldn't be that difficult to implement what people actually wanted, instead of the weird artifact sorter thing that people ended up getting. At least, I'd like to think that the latter part of my video explains what Genshin can really consider doing, especially considering the fact that they are able to do those things in Star Rail.

brilliant video, love the editing and how you divided it into coherent chunks. gonna be watching your content from now on. :) im ar57 and have just reached a year of playing genshin (started at the end of 3.2!). ive been thoroughly enjoying it so far and play it every single day (some days i only log in to condense my resin though) and have only been burnt out twice. the last time i was burnt out was at xianyun’s release as i had lost my 50/50 and went to 75-80 pity both times for the fourth time in a row to get nahida, and i stopped playing for two weeks but i got yae miko on the second phase (lost 50/50 again but yknow). i have a deep love for genshin as i love the main storyline, i love the character quests (cried for like an hour after xianyun’s quest haha), and i LOVE artifact grinding. ive been prefarming for furina and getting her artifacts, and whilst doing that i got three 40cv pieces, two for my neuvilette and 1 for furina, which is the best feeling EVER. i feel like i’m one of the rare few who actually love artifact grinding and dont hate it with a passion.. i have considered quitting genshin before but i am way too invested and im SO HYPED for natlan. when the fontaine trailer was out, i was scared i wouldnt like it at all as no characters appealed to me, but now its my favourite region alongside sumeru. as i said earlier, the character story quests and main storyline really got me hooked and especially for fontaine + sumeru. natlan’s gonna be so lore-heavy and im really pumped! pyro is my second-least favourite element character wise so im hoping that theres some cool new pyro characters that i’ll love. (i do ADORE dehya but i dont have her, plus her kit is dogwater..) and yes i do like arlecchino ofcourse but im not as hyped for her as many others are. furina is my priority rn by far. closing message: keep up the good work dude, hope u get far in your youtube journey!

I started late in the second half of 3.6, and somehow... miraculously am now at AR 57, and it sort of terrifies me. I've deliberately slowed down my playing out of a fear of eventually running out of quests to do (and now... I have a nice build up again). I think I've deliberately avoided completing any one nation because of that as well, and I am always pleasantly surprised by something I missed. I recently came across a random seelie in Liyue that I had somehow missed apparently. LOL I think I'm glad that they DO have events (multiple ones) each patch which helps, but I definitely felt a bit at a loss when I first completely caught up in the main story and ran out of Archon Quests to do - especially as someone who plays for story/lore. More than anything, I wish we had the ability to play through old limited time events. I don't even necessarily need the rewards (although they would be nice - a la HSR), but I want to know these characters better and get more tidbits of missing lore - so all the old Lantern Rites, and the big Diluc event that gave you his past, and also all the Albedo things. At this point, I've not seen Albedo at all in-game. (And I'm not playing his story quest yet.) I have recently start HSR as well, and I DO enjoy it for the characters and story, but... the exploration is not as fulfilling - obviously, because they are different genres, and I already knew and accepted that about myself. I like my adventure/story/puzzle games, and that's... just fine. I still play HSR though but less assiduously then Genshin and mostly because I am eager to meet these characters and get more of the story.

Started in 1.5 as a result of Onigiri closing the NA server, so this was my 2nd gacha title. Been AR60 for a while since, as it was in 7yrs+ of Onigiri, I haven't missed a day in game. As the type of person who's played the same MMORPG title for around 16yrs (since launch) there's not much that will stop me playing Genshin, short of the servers closing. As for HSR, I left turn based games behind once the tech advanced to support realtime action. Had enough of that genre from games on Spectrum, Commodore, etc back in the 80's & 90's 😂

I recently started star rail this week , just to get sparkle, and i wanted to quit because I couldnt jump as well. When you see you have to go down but need to take 1 minute running in different direction because you couldnt just jump down was so painful to me. I didnt mind the turn based. But playing hsr made me realise all of the qol they have that we wanted in genshin. The replayable quests with voicelines made me cry, Sending expeditions for character materials, Changing character path from the menu, Infinite running, etc. It actually felt like the devs wanted the different communities to fight over it. My biggest problem with genshin is the lack of use of characters that we pull and also the lack of playable characyers in the actual game world.

When I have time to play there is not enough, but than I appreciate the limit on very busy days where just converting it is too much planning sometimes. Hm, but at the end of the day.... Its not that I need the one crap 5* artifact if I just dont save all the resin every day.

genshin is my favorite game of all time. as an anime artist and a love for character design, i ADORE genshin and what they do. (also the fact that genshin was released on my birthday adds to that fact). However, no matter how much i love the game and i want it to do better i just feel so disappointed and heartbroken. I feel like i'm not wanted there, i feel like hoyo is actively trying to drive me off of the game and it sucks. genshin has a lot of problems, yes. especially for end game players such as ourselves. however, i would be willing turn a blind eye from those said issues if only i felt appriciated and respected. Genshin, at this point in time, feels like it's spitting players in the face, taking it's popularity and revenue for granted. If you don't love your consumer why would you try to make the product better?

@@bellamoon5861 1.0 player here. I would like genshin to show their appreciation by giving us better and more relevant QoL features. i have answered every survey Hoyoverse sent us and have suggested things. To this day, we still don’t have saveable 5-pc artifact set loadouts. What they gave us was a sorter quick-equip artifact finder. Lots of QoL improvement still missing in Genshin. like “claim all buttons” for batch blacksmith craftables and in teapot. Instead, they gave us a gadget that produces bubbles. and another gadget the produces random numbers. Wow. Smh why these are prioritized over more crucial matters. The funny thing is, we already have saveable team party loadouts and TCG card loadouts, but they can’t implement artifact preset loadouts? they implemented “claim all” button for Expeditions, but can’t implement the same for blacksmitch batches and teapot crafting batches? These are some of the many simple QoL features i have suggested for years. there are more, but this comment will be too long if i wrote them all. for a game that’s 3+ years old, lots of QoL things still missing and undeveloped. Honkai Star Rail implemented way better QoL features in 3 months than the QoL features Genshin has done in 3 years. And honestly, that is something valid to complain about. when people complain or are expressing dissatisfaction about Genshin, know that some people are speaking up from a place of love, from a place of wanting genshin to be better. we can’t just turn a blind eye all the time when something is not done right. Yes, Hoyoverse gives us updates every 6 weeks, but know that they actually have to give us updates every 6 weeks. That’s kinda their job. And part of that job is to also listen to valid player feedback. and when it comes to QoL improvement, Genshin could do better imo. as a paying customer such as my self, i think Genshin could do better. i don’t just wanna see my suggestions over the years implemented on Hoyo’s other games. i wanna see them implemented on Genshin. When people complain, that doesn’t necessarily mean they have to leave. i love Genshin, but would like it to better. i want it to be better because i wanna keep playing it. but know that just because a problem doesn’t bother you doesn’t mean the problem is not valid for others. just because something is a non-issue with you doesn’t mean the issue doesn’t exist.

The relationship yall have with the game is just really parasocial and it's just better to put some boundaries.

I started playing in 1.6 and relate to so many of your points. The event stories for example.. we used to get Albedo focused winter events that had amazing lore but now was the 2nd year without a continuation on that. It's such a waste with how interesting his background story is. In the last 1,5 years, only Sumeru and Fontaine archon quests where what stopped me from playing. Luckily these two regions improved greatly on Inazuma's rushed plothole mess of a story. I am at a point where I put too many hours into this game to quit. I have many well built limited characters and weapons and can't remember the last time I didn't 36* the Abyss. I have 100%-ed all regions, maxed out all additional rewards statues and trees, maxed the teapot, the tcg rank, over 1k achievements... This isn't meant to be bragging, just to show the extreme lack of endgame content or goal to work towards. There's no insensitive to pull no units for me from a gameplay perspective which kinda counters the gacha purpose. I still at least want to see how the Tsaritsa saga finishes. If Genshin gets a Part 2 story continuation (like HI3rd atm), I'm not sure of I stick around for that
@lina.998

also to add to the HSR discussion. HI3rd was my first mihoyo game. I played HSR CBT3 and the connections to Honkai Impact and team Honkai's writing in general is what made me fall in love with it instantly. I also gre up on Pokemon and Fire Emblem, so I like the turn based system (which is much more forgiving than others like SMT or Persona). As a game I honestly already like it much better than Genshin. Genshin just has me in a chokehold with fomo ig

been playing since launch date and playing with a meta focus for the most part biggest complaint for me now is exploration, i tried to keep up until 4.2 but after that its become too many areas and quests to do, the next patch will have another new region and the last thing i finished was the tower quest in 4.2? i doubt i will rush to finish whatever area 4.6 brings i am coping but i do think some end game combat content will be added probably trying to natlan somehow and with the developers finding a way to make the game size file take up less storage i do every event for rewards and the masochist side of me likes the resin system and rng artifacts ( i just like the potential of a god tier piece every 1 year per region lol ) otherwise again my complaint is how resources like crowns are gatekept behind exploration and heavy time invested exploration at that i'm running out of crowns for my characters and will have to do exploration to get them despite how grueling it is otherwise i think genshin reached critical mass very early on, basically months after launch and now even if it loses a lot of players many more will return or newly join to play the game not to mention the merch, art, etc both official and fanmade that constantly keeps the game in the back of people's mind

I’ve recently dealt with burnout as a fellow AR 60 player, so I feel you. I overcame it by only focusing on the things I enjoyed and just ignoring the things I didn’t. I spent so much time optimizing my characters and pulling for meta reasons that I made the game less fun for myself. When I stopped doing both and just pulled who I liked, I started enjoying the game more. I love the exploration and the long world quests, so I put my focus almost solely on those, and that made the game much more enjoyable as well.

This was such a good video. I've been AR60 for 6 months now and it's just hard to continue. I love this game, I really do but there's so much they should improve on. I've lost many friends due to the lack of long term stuff. All that's left us to pray with rng gods for good artifacts which..... yeah.... Also you made such a hood point on characters too. My favourite characters are Diluc & Noelle and it's just a tough time dealing with that. I was surprised on the potion event too on Jean's involvement or lack thereof. Fun fact, I've tried ToF and Starrail and I wasn't a fan of either. ToF... only the combat was nice from what I remember. And starrail... I just couldn't click with it. It wasn't my kind of game but I know several former genshin players play starrail and enjoy it more. I think the main issue with starrail is the the initial characters you meet are kind of annoying? I'm neutral on turn based combat and I felt kind of lost? I did enjoy the unlimited sprint but part of me did want to jump & climb to places too. But from what I saw - the fact you can replay old event storylines in starrail? Genshin needs that so badly. I wish there was a way to look at all the quests you have done in game as a summary like typical games (for example botw) and replay event storylines. I started the game in 2.0 or 2.1 so I missed everything prior to that. One thing that gets me too is all the limited event weapons as well. Albedo is currently uprated but his best weapon, Cinnabar Spindle, can no longer be obtained. I have it but new players will never get is BiS. Same with me and Festering Desire - I will never get that weapon. (I've missed more than that weapon because I didn't know they were limited like fish claymore)
@GoatLiffy
@GoatLiffy 2 месяца назад
Considering the fact that I haven't missed any event exclusive stuff, finding a way to "rerun" those things is still something that I also can't really think of suggesting anything for. Maybe they can put them in an event store and just have players collect more event points or something? But I'm not sure if people would particularly like that option... Sooo many things to reconsider in this game...

I've been with Genshin since launch, and I can absolutely agree with you. The dev team has become a bit too comfortable in their uncontestable position, and QoL changes come slow and rarely - unless it's Star Rail, which got almost everything we asked for right away and then some. However, I don't see this changing anytime soon. The "boycott" that was supposed to take place during this year's Lantern Rite Festival was nothing but a wet fart in spite of the review bombing, the Dehya fiasco went literally nowhere (doubly ridiculous since that also means the extensive feedback section dedicated to her was a red herring to waste all of our time) - if anything, the opposite is happening in that miHoYo is making even more money while doing nothing different. Simply put, the critical voices are an irrelevant minority. Many players are so casual that they never pass Spiral Abyss, but in spite of that, these people are still likely to spend money on the game. Money talks, after all, and endgame doesn't exactly pay. I wish there was more variety, but unless miHoYo finds a clever (read: sneaky) way to make money off of it, nothing will change. The one thing I've come to notice about my own views changing is that I've stopped recommending this game around two years ago, and I genuinely would rather see people play anything else than this game in its current state.

Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, the rewards you get for doing ANYTHING in Genshin feel so incredibly lackluster than anyone that's been playing the game for more than a few months is probably desensitized to disappointment by now. It would be so nice if there were more Dragonspine-esque quests that reward you with unique weapons or at least 4 star weapons from the banners or something. Hell, even the AR rewards are complete trash all the way to AR 60 where all you get is 150 primos, which isn't even enough for ONE pull, 3 intertwined fates, 2 fragile resin, 30 mystic enchantment ore and some exp books. And that's ALL you get for sinking ALL this blood, sweat, effort and time into this game. Forget the developers, it feels like even the GAME ITSELF doesn't care about you.

I guess some of it was because I started playing Star rail and the F2P friendliness on it was really refreshing, but another part had to be just how bland the whole game was becoming. It was hard to be excited for any events, the farming for characters was so tiring, and yeah, the dailies almost felt like I was just wasting my time for 60 primos in total. It’s kinda sad how such a large game is starting to, well it’s been a while of the repetitiveness but still, disappoint its players, it’s just the same everytime and in my experience it felt more like a chore than a game 🤷

The game is still expanding, every 3 months we get a new patch, some are crazy and some are stale but we know the game will go on which is reassuring. This is the best game on the planet honestly, but I agree the grind is insane. 160 resin doesn't cut it, an increase to 200 would do us some good And if you're bored, just start a second account. If a player can easily hold more than three accounts at the same time, and then strategically pull different characters on each account, then miHoYo's earnings will plummet. Therefore, it is important to increase the cost of time for players to hold an account.

Honestly for me, the only problem is the replayability of the game where after a certain point it stops being exciting. But i haven't really felt the "burnout" ever since i started playing in 3.8. But I do leave the game time to time and skip some events. Apparently there are some leaks that a second type of spiral abyss labyrinth sort is in the making but it's more like a release of an anime or manga to me where they give a lot of amazing content every month. I'm mostly buried in the lore so much that I have a hard time to even play the same game that has been providing the lore so in most cases the exploring and relaxing feels comfortable. But for me personally I don't see any content being that good except a case of pvp where I won't get bored of a mechanic. Like sure there could be harder boss and everything but the rotation and animations are going to remain the same and work the same way. The dungeon system or co op ideas are good tho. But i feel like the replay ability problem is a thing with the whole gaming community as a whole rather than just Genshin. People just don't get bored of the newer games because they're new and you're ought to reach a point where it becomes boring. The Genshin battle system or mechanic hype also lasted for a good 2 or 3 years and people eventually did get bored of it. It's like the case of any single player game. Even if I play some amazing games like Insomniac's spiderman or God of war, as long as the story continues, every battle and every fight feels fantastic but as soon as it ends and I play it for a second or third time, even with all those amazing mechanics it starts to feel boring somehow. Maybe it's not true but in my personal opinion it's a much bigger problem and Genshin stays alive due to its story and events only and as soon as that ends, Genshin will too

I've also reached the AR60 wall, and I started not long after you did (end of Feb/start of Mar 2021, Hu Tao's first banner. I still don't have Hu Tao despite pulling on every Hu Tao banner). I honestly enjoyed the fresh experience of these new stories, though Inazuma's early quests were questionable. This was also my first open-world RPG. Inazuma was a particular sore spot since the jump in difficulty was quite punishing. I was only comfortable returning to do things in Inazuma after I got lv.90 characters with world level lowered. Since then I reverted it as my account got better, but I digress. I'm used to the grind since I played games like Elsword for girls that never liked me back. So I put that effort into a similar game just for myself, and I am satisfied with the arrangement. I do agree we are taken for granted, it's like they're aware of the glaring issues of the game, but drip feed us random QoL updates that...don't address the main problem at all. Indeed, I looked at games like ToF and just wasn't interested. I'm currently downloading Star Rail at the time of writing since I'm just that bored right now and I'm kinda just waiting for 5.0 and some reruns. I had two hang-ups that kept me from getting the game earlier: I only play 1-2 RPGs at a time, since I really invest my time into RPGs. I'm only getting Star Rail now since I'm getting bored with solo farming for a clan on Warframe. Also, I can't take a character named March 7th seriously, and the mixed naming conventions made me question if Star Rail would be another game like Genshin where it explored different nations, or if it was just mixed around different cultures for asthetics. I finally decided to check it out to find out for myself, since I do have affinity for turn-based gameplay (I grew up on Pokemon). I also noticed something about the advertising from Hoyo lately that is quite concerning. I remember getting into the game because of ads like Diluc's or Hu Tao's trailers. Really introduced you to a character and what the game was offering in a way that was engaging and enticing. I think the last "good" ad was Alhaitham's trailer, maybe Wanderer's. Now you get this half-baked short format for Xianyun and Chiori where you get an image (Chiori) or the model (Xianyun) with an idle voiceline. Am I the only one that picked up on this?

I love Genshin, but I also spend time daydreaming how I would create the game if I could and then get jealous of my imaginary version lol I really appreciate how they have made recent changes to make old characters feel good again or offer a couple of really good 4*s - but it also baffles me how little they experiment with new ideas, even if it lost a bit of money as they experiment, they make enough that it would be fine and the transparency of them offering new ideas and being open to feedback would get more players engaged. I also think that writing a story arch that lasts almost a decade means that you also have to include a bunch of other story archs that feel big otherwise it feels anticlimactic. Too much lore is left to obscure books. A good story pulls in a lot of players (and increases the devotion to pull characters) so to not have voice acted lore drops with cut scenes at a pace that distracts you from the fact that it's 3 years and we still barely know anything about our twin or what happened, leads to a ton of random history info that you'd need to study it like you're writing a college thesis in order to get some blurry picture of what's going on. The level of lore is incredible, (like the new stuff about Khanri'ah we just got) but it's wasted. I'd much rather they turn these lore drops from random books into a story quest we do instead of investing into voice acted event activities.

I've been playing for almost a year and a half, and I am AR58. I'm having a lot of trouble agreeing with any of this, and the only time I did, it was the Resin issue. As someone who's a big numbers and optimizing geek, I'd love to be able to just pour more time into artifax and get them done quicker (instead of having to wait entire days' worth). Other than that, I love this game, and don't expect a whole lot more than what it's given us. It's a massive free game with tons of characters, and you can do a lot with what you're given, assuming you're also somewhat patient to be able to reap those rewards (as an F2Player). And being almost a year and a half in, I still don't feel the "lack of endgame content" thing at all. I'm still struggling beating Floor 12, and let alone all 36 stars. And this isn't a complaint, but it's to point out that not everyone has either acquired those specific characters necessary to make those things "easy", since that's just character carry, rather than the content being easy.
@GoatLiffy

I won't talk about how long you've been playing because we've played for wildly different amount of times, but like you said, the only reason that you haven't completed Abyss is cause you don't have the win condition characters. That doesn't make a piece of content particularly difficult, it just makes it annoying. I never said Abyss was "easy", but it certainly is difficult for the wrong reasons. They just put obscenely beefy enemies that requires people to DPS check them, or they put enemies that have a lot of invulnerability periods all in the same chamber halves. There's nothing "strategically" difficult about it, and it's just cheap ways of creating the illusions of things being difficult.

the thing is that genshin is supposed to be a casual game that you log in to do dailies , and log out unless there was a new patch . I have developed that i think is the best way possible of playing this game , i just treat it like a game , not a life , yeah game has no endgame , but does your life depend on genshin getting endgame ? all you have to do is it log in for few extra hours a patch to speedrun some stupid events , and do it until there is something new to do ( unless you dont enjoy exploration , then you should just leave the game because there s literally nothing else to do , and complaining about the game on twitter and yt comment yet still contunuing to play the game despite hating every aspect of it will change nothing ) . I am a lore player , i dont care about any new levels for abyss , all i care about is seeing the world get bigger and getting some juicy lore , but i still dont do every new content that comes out , i do them when i fill like it , i still have quests from sumeru and places like enkanomiya are still not on 100 % . People should understand that this is just this kind of game that you should not play unless there s new content , to many people treat genshin like their life depends on it , there are 10000000000 different games you can play , you dont have to play genshin if you dont want to , i get it that there are people who are harsh towards the game to " make it better since the game can be better " but the truth is that this is unfortunetally that kind of game , i wont be as good as it can since its whole purpose it so suck away your time and money and in my opinion we should be glad that the game is as good as it is anyway since as long as you dont fall into the trap of having to spend money you have an amazing game with amazing story , world , characters and lore . People say that artifacts need change , no they dont sicne they are exactly the system they are supposed to be , a system that makes you come back with hope of getting something better once a year . We should enjoy genshin for what it is and not what it can be since there s a big chance that it will never turn into a game every hardcore player wants , it will stay a game that focuses on developing its world and btw its doing a better job in that than hsr .

A lot of the features that people want in Genshin are things that they have either in HI3 and Star Rail. Why can't they do it for Genshin? That's just the achilles heel to the argument of "Genshin's not supposed to be that type of game", honestly... we're not asking for unicorns and miracles here, and I'm not gonna be critical when the solutions are painfully obvious. Why enjoy the game with compromises when there is very much a realistic world where there are no compromises? And just to be clear, it's SUPPOSED to be developing it's world better than HSR. It's the one advantage it's supposed to have being the older game and much more dynamic one. That's not a big plus to have against a game like HSR. "You should leave the game, if you don't enjoy exploration" is such a narrow-minded view of a game that gives way more than just exploration. I'm also a lore enjoyer, I don't even know if you watched the video at this point, I don't have maxed out explorations either, I'm just someone who saw what Hoyo can do for their other games, and wonder why they can't do it for the one that actually made them relevant in the first place.

Events such as prop hunt, the rythm game and the recent cooking event would be so fun to just have in the game at all time. If you have nothing more to do today why not play some rounds yknow.

"No one is forcing you" daily system for scarce premium currency earnings would like to disagree. Game wants you to login daily and it tricks you to do so. While not putting up the actual work of making the grind fun, hence the 'burnout'. You want to have a little dopamine hit, you get the lick of it and nothing more. And the new shiny toy is waiting for your pulls once again. Devs know how to make grind fun, they can do it. They just won't. And the reasons why aren't clear (doesn't help that hoyo gives close to none glimpses at their inner cooking and its questionable if they listen to feedback or not). Hence the 'stagnation' people scream about. Clustered continuous actions of individuals have reasons behind them, whether people want to accept it or not.

Exploration isn't my favorite thing in the world which genshin seems to prioritize and the story is middling at best because of how long-winded it gets. Ever since hitting AR60 in 4.2 I havent returned to the game. The events have also lost all it's appeal since 3.7. I'd probably only go back to for further story pteogression in hopes that it gets less slow.

I was having fun so I decided to try Genshin, which was fun but rapidly became very frustrating, with just how much more time investment the game would require while still missing story gated and level gated events, I ended up walking away after a couple months. However I really treasure my time with Star Rail and despite missing several events I actually feel involved with and connected to it as it goes on, rather than struggling to catch up and feeling permanently behind.

I don't think whether Mihoyo likes you back or not remains to be seen. They don't. The Gacha 50/50 only exists to screw you, the lack of a way to guarantee a featured 4* character is continued negligence at best and an intentional trap for low spenders/non spenders at worst, and the way that Artifacts do not have a realistic finish line is a pure crystallization of how Mihoyo would rather try to keep you around by wasting your time shoveling trash into your face instead of actually giving you something reliably fulfilling to do when all the events are cleared for the day. Monetization is always a detriment to a work, never a benefit.

I played genshin like in day 1 for a month and then later come back and then end the sumeru quest and leave lv 60 also here. The problem with the game, for me, its like yours, in Genshin there are a lot of good characters but 90% of the story/events is with random NPCs they took a loot of time until they started doing events/story with good story, like the Xiao/venti one or the itto/yelan etc in lyue. I was sick of genshin for diferent reasons and i even planned to just dont touch Star rail because how horrible everything was(In need to say, the first month in genshin was great and in my comeback to the sumeru journey) but in HSR 80% of the content even the events your favourite characters are there interacting with you(they even chat with you) and the game is a lot of fun even to this day (lv 66HSR) and from the other 20% that are NPCs half of it is really fun to know them and the humor in this game is godlike, you dont get tired of exploring + the events and gamemodes are fun, i was just tired of minigames in genshin + the PROTAGONIST HAS A VOICE i know that Lumine talks sometimes but i really like when the character is alone and then starts talking by himself or with others. And the worst feeling of all, post lv 45 getting you stronger, you know, the main thing on the ggame? Became useless, even at max world level you one shot everything and the only thing you could get tested was the abyss and even that was boring as fk in HSR even you being strong could go to lv 3 swarm dissaster and get one shoted or the story bosses giving you a suprise.

I've been AR 60 in genshin for a while now too! I started playing during the second Dragonspine event, and I fell in love with the game. Gotta say ever since they added the encounter points thing I haven't done a single daily quest (unless they are related to achievements). You can fill it up by doing whatever event is ongoing, or it's a great excuse to go through my backlog of hangout quests. 😆 Yeah, I didn't try star rail for nearly a year since I'm not a fan of turn based combat, but I really liked a certain character, and when I heard that character was getting a rerun soon I finally tried the game, and to my surprise, I actually liked it (and managed to get that character 🎉)! I particularly like the simulated universe... genshin needs something like that so badly. 😭

I agree with most of the video anyway, and won't repeat it here. You've nailed the highs and lows of the game. As an AR 60 player myself, I'm just wishing resin costs were cut in half at AR 60. It takes 7-10 boss clears (that's 280 to 400 resin or up to 2.5 "days" of resin) just to get the boss materials for one character to ascend (and be able to go to level 90). That's why it takes weeks for me to take a character from 1 to 90 and to level 8/8/8 talents, and give them a level 90 weapon. I don't even farm artefacts because one this trajectory you never have "time" to do it. You'd always rather do a ley line or a boss or a talent domain because those are guaranteed stat boosts, and not RNG-dependent artefacts. At least with resin cut in half you could have more chances to farm and build your characters. Just my two cents. If Hoyo isn't going to do anything about Resin, then I would have made the Pankration Ring in the Fortress of Meropide a weekly challenge. It screams "weekly" boss. Maybe make it a "no resin" domain where you can win rewards by destroying waves of enemies with modifiers. Maybe make it a place to try out new characters that aren't on the banner. It's so easy to do and they already do it in those Fayze Trials - why not just make it permanent? It's free advertising for characters you don't have and it's something Hoyo already does. I really like Genshin, and cannot wait to see how the story ends and what Natlan and Snezhnaya look like, and the last area of Fontaine and to meet new characters along the way. I just wish it was a less grindy game, because the exploration and the music and combat are all amazing.

From my experience, people's problems with the characters that you mentioned are not exactly because of lack of support, but more because they don't like their playstyles, at least, barre Ayaka - since she's still very popular for freeze teams. Ganyu is still a big numbers DPS, especially if you have Shenhe, but no one likes having to hold their charge attacks for that long anymore. Itto is annoying to play, and Ayato is just a bit brainless for most :P

I’m excited to FINALLY go back to Inazuma again, but surprise surprise my favourite character and the archon of the region has 8 lines, whereas Itto who has featured in the past 3 patches has like 10 times that? I mostly spend no more than 30 to 1 hour depending on the game time but I have personally considered quitting Genshin because I get bullied for liking that game, especially by Zoomers and Gen Alpha because of the constant stereotype that all Genshin players are Pedophiles/Groomers or that they are built like Jupiter because they're absolute units. The memes get old really fast when it comes to those two things to the point that it sometimes angers me. The only reason I keep on going is because of the story. The RNG hate is justified as that was something I personally wanted them to fix because of how horrible it is. The rewards for the anniversary and the last lantern rite feel more like a huge middle finger to the playerbase as a whole and the FOMO is also a horrible reason for playing this overglorified casino as a Chinese RPG game. That being said, the game has its strengths, one of them being the character design, which is absolutely phenomenal, same with the music and voice acting. The lore is its biggest feature and it actually got me quite hooked. Granted, I missed out on some things since I started on 1.3, which was still a thing on December 2020 (I started on Christmas day, of all days) and my birthday is 4 days before Barbara's, which legit applies as she is one of my personal favorite characters and sharing the same week as her birth is a bonus. I want this game to improve but everyday I become more hesitant to even play it. I can't even tell people I play it because of how much of a shitty reputation the community has (literally the only good parts are the memelords and the art community, when they're not acting like dipshits on Twitter or the rest of the internet). I would rather cut my balls off than to buy a Nintendo Switch to play Zelda because of Nintendo's abyssmal reputation towards their fanbase and ultimately, I tried to get into Star Rail but I lack the motivation to play it. I legit joined to get Dr. Ratio and because a relative told me to check it out. I honestly wish I would've never started it sometimes, but then again I wouldn't experience all the emotions I got from this game. The sad stories, especially Childish Jiang's, which made me cry like a bitch because I know how painful it was to lose a parent. Klee on the Golden Archipielago made me appreciate her to the point that she is one of my permanent members of my team besides Barbara. Babs saved my ass so many times that I honestly owe half my progress to her, even more so in DPS form. Hell, I even cleared the Abyss after 3 grueling years with both of them besides Kokomi and Furina. Would I trade 3 years of my life back if I didn't play Genshin? Well, only if I had a refund of all I spent, but ultimately, I wouldn't trade what I experienced in that game since it got me through some bad spots during lockdowns. Mihoyo might prefer Honkai, but its Genshin straight up put them in the map, for all the good and bad reasons. This game depresses me sometimes, but it makes me happy sometimes as well, and I guess that counts for something. I thank God that at least I'm not playing a game from Tencent, nor that MiHoYo is owned by Tencent at all. P.S: Çai Haoyu, you're the cancer killing Genshin.

I never felt convinced she was a master strategist capable of leading a successful revolt against a much more powerful and well funded government. The storyline itself was pretty good. On the run we join the rebellion and try to take down the misguided empire. I mean it's Starwars in Japan. Replace Yai with Yoda. Thoma is Hanz. Ayaka princess Leia. Does that make Sayu Chewy? 😂. Anyhow plus toss in the Baladeer and Signora and the story itself was fire. It's just Eis part in it was kind of not fleshed out very well.

I havent watched the full video, but with just the beginning of this I can already guess whats going on. TL,DR: Ranting about the game from a two years player's perspective; Genshin is a daunting game that should take more cues from Star Rail or at least get the development team to step back and look at the bigger picture of their games and fanbase. Genshin Impact is very much a game that has to be taken slowly. Yes, all the cool events, stories, and limited events are enticing, but don't try to rush yourself to achieve them. (Like don't forget the ten-hour-long tree-gnome people quest) Like I just hit ar 60 like a week ago, and I didn't even realize I made it until I finished a boss and accepted the awards. I messed up the "big moment" lol. But yeah, new players at this point will be struggling to catch up to veterans, yet they just need to take it day by day and not focus on the bigger picture just yet. And yeah, the characters are so amazing, but its so hard to give screen time to all of them. I understand that Mihoyo has to pick and choose who can show up-and it would probably always be the newer characters given priority-but why doesn't Mihoyo allow them to just appear in the world? Like Jean can always be stationed in her office and Xiao can sometimes be seen watching over Liyue, or so on and so forth. If the Star Rail team can have some of their characters be in their respective characters, why not Genshin? We know that since the inclusion of Star Rail, both Hoyo games have been improving each other countless times. So why hasn't Genshin given more focus on the characters? The very reason players come back to play and pay for the game???? (I do know Star Rail and Genshin are done by different developers, but c'mon you guys!!!!!) It's crazy to think that another game from Mihoyo is whats actually kicking Genshin Impact's butt to improve themselves with those quality-of-life features, but not from the first year or so??? Yes you can see a vast improvement from Inazuma to now, and yet it seems like each new area they are still working out the kinks in the story. I do appreciate that for the lore divers of the game, much of the theory crafting as well as in-game hints create the bigger picture they want to create for the end of this story.... but what will happen AFTER? There is barely any endgame content, and a lot of their limited-time events games would be spectacular to keep as in-game features. The card game is very much a great step into that, and I know a LOT of players would love to create their own mini-dungeons to play in or show off to others from that one even a few years back, so why not more stuff? Even something like Star Rails weekly universe subgame is a fun thing to take part in (mainly just to see the number count go up and up). You can only grind for materials, relics, and bosses so far until you don't have to any more... I really do feel so sorry for the development team, and I do know they love the game they are pouring their souls into, but something is gonna give and it will not be pretty.
