Since making this video about a week and a half ago, I have some slightly more interesting thoughts regarding the advanced variation. This is after proposing a bunch of ideas to Yash, some of which turned out quite good. If you wanna get up to speed on Mehta, join the discord (cba linking it you're smart you can find it) Anyways, given how difficult the method is, I don't think the base Mehta method is going to quite reach the heights we've seen with base CFOP and base Roux. That said, once EOLE/TDR get more optimized as algorithm sets, I think Mehta is currently the most promising "ZB path" method CFOP's ZB path suffers from a small but significant number of ZBLS cases just not being worth it (I'm trying to learn more about this by getting someone to develop an OLS OS tool), and ZZ suffers from consistency issues (even though I think ZZ can get good singles and could get a WR single, or even average with enough luck and a skilled cuber, I don't see it ever being much more than "boneless CFOP") That all said, a cuber with Tymon level inspection abilities who also learns the best algs for EOLE/TDR/ZBLL (S/AS still debatable as full sets afaik, but it doesn't matter because fastest OLL's>PLL is still good) could do some ridiculous things with the method Also yes, I've heard of Nautilus and also proposed a few ideas to Athefre that I think are worthwhile. No, I'm not going to make a video about it. Still, for anyone who wants to know, I think it also has potential to be the best "ZB path" method assuming the solver is good enough. More development/input from smart fast cubers is needed ~ FIRST NEWSLETTER EMAIL IN A VERY LONG TIME COMING OUT IN A LITTLE OVER 24 HOURS (NO RESENDS, IF YOU MISS IT YOU MISS IT) TOPIC - LOOK AHEAD & TPS SIGN UP HERE - www.jaydenmcneillcubing.com/newsletter

I really like your philosophy of "if you see it, and its staring you in the face, great! If not, no worries" Very solid attitude. Great way to look at algs in general.

Thanks for giving Mehta a look! Learned a lot from your analysis. Currently familiar with the beginners method. The move count is indeed low, but the first 3x2 block and 3qb are very slow 😂. It requires a LOT of look-ahead to be smooth, but if given some practice good a solver can solve 2-3 edges in 3QB with one look, requiring less pauses than F2l. Some have said that Petrus techniques can be useful here. It's a new method, so there's room for improvement such as recognition. If good Petrus users can solve like they do so well, imagine Metha with enough practice! Looking forward to seeing its progress!

I’m am so happy to see this video. I was one of the first people to work on Mehta and it’s incredible to see it getting some major recognition. Personally I learned the 6CO, 6CP/APDR, L5EO/PLL path as that was (close to) the original idea so I am a little sad to see it being overshadowed by DCAL. Nonetheless I am excited to see where we end up! Also, there is an alg set that solves the second and third belt edges if the BL edge is solved (relative to centres). In theory, if one where to plan FB+BL and trace the location and orientation of the 2 other edges it would mean the solve doesn’t have lookahead (in the conventional sense) and gets rid of the worst part of the method. Yes, I know this is extremely high level inspection however I believe this is absolutely in the realm of possibility.

cfop has some advantages over zz but it has issues because zbls has a bunch of shitty algs (i've heard someone is trying to remedy this by developing an os system for ols). zz on the other hand has issues with consistency (and honestly this could be overcome with a good cuber and some luck to the point where we could see some zz wrs, but even then i can't really envision it developing beyond cfop without bones)
@JaydenMcNeill
@JaydenMcNeill 3 года назад
i think for the ols os thing, over time it'll probably be more than 50% zbls (could be as high as like 80%) with the bad cases getting filled in with tricks described in the ols os thread for zz i think the thing that the method needs to overcome is poor fingertricks in F2L since RUL can get messy. i sent a few ideas to orekestrah who may or may not have forwarded them to the zz disc server, but in general this is what zzers need to fix with their method. once that's done, the method becomes very solid imo

The Mehta TDR i.e. the most advanced variation currently existing , could actually be better than CFOP even if you are a very efficient CFOP solver; only because a large part of solve is algorithm based where most of them are 3-gen tops and the move count on average doesn't go over 44: lookahead only hinders your continuation in the starting 20-25 moves as the rest of the part is pure algorithmic (Btw you have to learn something like over 600 new algs even if you are an intermediate solver with mehta. So ........................: )

i have been trying to transition to mehta for a month now its difficult but i managed to get a 9.85 with the method using intuitive TDR because i havent learned the full algset yet. i got an easy ZBll and got my mehta pb. to this method has so much potential with mehta TDR's sub 45 average movecount.
