How to make a dog killer sympathetic, according to Disney: 1: Dalmatians killed her mother 2: She doesn't kill dogs in this movie 3: She doesn't even dislike dogs 4: Actually just make her a different character altogether Nice one, guys. Another slam dunk.

Fun fact: in the original novel (yes, there was a book before the first cartoon film, it was written by Dodie Smith in the 1950s), it was very clearly established that Cruella's birth name was, in fact, Cruella De Vil, and that she came from a long line of De Vils. Heck, Mrs. Dearly went to school with her.

Cruella was a cartoon villain, who's fun because she's over-the-top evil for no reason. The last thing she needs is a sympathetic origin story.

I was watching a video about the film, and someone in the comments section wrote: "So, this movie would have been much better if they had removed the name Cruella from it."

Hollywood in general, and Disney in particular have NO Imagination or ability to create something truly new and original.

You know… if this movie just chose to be its own movie, like just a movie about a fashionista fight that wasn’t Cruella Devil, but was it’s own character… it could’ve been a fine movie. Heck, a good one. Why do we need to make these dumb origin films? Just make new stories! Please!

Honestly, I really like the Cruella film. It was enjoyable and one of my favorites. That is if you detach it from the original movie. Don't get me wrong, 101 Dalmatians is a classic. But Cruella deVil is not a character that should be redeemed. The character in the movie felt entirely different from the puppy skinner in the original movie. It doesn't give cruella any reason to hurt Dalmatians and I feel sorry that Estelle had to turn into Cruella because it makes the film seem so much sillier. It tries to redeem Cruella, but it comes up with the most basic way of doing it. If Cruella had a differently named protagonist, who turned into a different character, it could have turned out so much better than what it is. Because being connected to the original makes the plot kind of fall apart.

PLEASE do an honest trailer for ABC's "Once Upon a Time". :D

I actually loved this movie. The actors were great, 70s/60s costumes/sets were cool, and it had a great plot that kept me interested the whole way. The combination of heist film, followed by Revenge plot, was great. I hadn't thought about the incest between Pongo and Perdita though, eh, I'm going to ignore that.

Like, they took Maleficent- the only Disney villain so evil she summoned the "demons of Hell" - and made her wishy washy while pissing all over the good fairies (the main heroes of the original). Good catch about smoking in the 70s. I was in Milk. (Shook hands with Sean Penn, in fact!) The bg acting hotline warned us "smoking is a sign of the times." Said they were required to accommodate an employee with an allergy if one complained, but made this common sense plea implying you might want to rethink being in the movie if you can't be around smokers. :-P
