Who the hell cares, you people have nothing better to do then complain about everything. People have to make money too, he said he liked the company do why not get sponsored? You honestly just have nothing better to do then get mad at him, PATHETIC!!
Yeah, while the subscription service might be for some, personally, I am way too picky and would rather source my own watche that I truly love than a bunch of watches I might not.
Agreed, it is definitely NOT for everyone. If you don't see the point in having more than 1 or 2 watches, don't bother. I have only 2 hats that I wear, but I know people that have dozens of caps and hats. Each to their own and everyone likes different things.
@@peterchan2151 even then WG is a complete waste of money. You give them X amount of money and they send a POS that was made in China that is not worth anywhere near the claimed values.
Not always, I have nice shirts, crappy shirts and everyday shirts. I also have nice watches, crappy watches and everyday watches. There are watches that I wear that I really don't mind scratching up or getting paint on like when I'm out rock climbing/bouldering.
@@rowanhealy not exclusively, but I do a lot of activities and I see watches just like jackets/coats/outerwear. Something for all occasions and weather. It's good to have a selection to match your mood too. It completes the outfit.
Yet people are buying watches based on what rappers and ballers are wearing, not realizing when their styles change the watch will depreciate.... Lots of quality out there....I have a President Rolex that keeps shitty time, compared to a Citizen.....
To me half the fun of building a collection is researching and saving up to get the watch. I haven't ventured into vintage yet and do t really want to. That seems like a deep rabbit hole
Not as deep as you might think. You just have to buy the seller, compare the seller's pictures to lots of pictures online and plan to have it serviced once shortly after you receive it unless the seller can prove they've serviced it in the last couple of years.
@@jaex9617 trust me, this isn't one of their skx lines, and i think there aren't many left. Nothing special really. I have huge respect for Seiko though.
@@jaex9617 Oh yeah no I realised. Just wanted to say that the watch I bought wasn't anything special. Do really love it. It's a Seiko 6309-5820. Mine's the only one I've ever seen.
I was asked how many watches do I really need, I responded, how many shoes do you wear or how many jackets. Simply put, I never thought of having multiple watches until I joined watch gang. Now it's second nature to me to have a selection of watches to match what I'm wearing or what I'm doing be it work, sport, shopping or just lounging. Great video, and explains a lot about who watch gang is for. If you don't have spare disposable income, don't bother because some watches are awful, but some are great value. I gifted a few of my watches to friends and family too which is great for birthdays and Christmas.
Yeah when it comes to collecting timepieces you go for quality and likeness not quantity. Nobody needs a new watch every month now c'mon. What ends up happening with this is you don't appreciate the watches you have.
A good point. Although, when a company advertises giving you watches worth more than your monthly investment, it doesnt take a mathematician to realize the business will go under in the first month. Therefore, the fact that they are profitable means one thing: your paying for what you get, minus shipping and administrative charges. So they are skirting the lines of false advertisement. It's definitely not for anyone who: wants a say in what they get for their money, or: those looking for a good deal.
I agree that you do not get to sell your $500 watch for even $200...but I'm not in it to invest, I buy a pair of shoes to wear at $300...I don't expect to sell it for $100. There are people out there who do this with their shoes, but watchgang is not for making money. So like the video suggests, it's not a way to make money.
When I read that you KEEP each watch you're sent, I delved further and realise it was 99% shite. If it was a watch hire service, where you keep the watch and return it each month/quarter, the watches would be decent instead of almost absolute no-names.
Don't listen to the Haters who are stuck up on brand names and heritage. A watch is that you think is fascinating is much more valuable than a watch you don't like from a brand that everyone else loves. One example is Seiko skx series. Everyone loves their dive watches, but I find them uninteresting. Crappy bracelets, can't keep time, only 200m water resistance.....I actually dive, so I bought a deep blue that is 1000m water resistant, has a helium release valve, a rock solid case and strap and superior lume. I'm sure people who don't know diving would say that an skx 007 is a better watch with better "horologie", but they don't know what I use my watch for.
Yeah I agree they are not for the hardcore enthusiast but it takes a while to get there. I also like how they have built a great trading community from what I've heard. They need a Ceratanium tier for us crazy guys. Cheers, Andrew
Nearly every "Swiss" microbrand is basically just a Chinese company that registered an LLC in Switzerland so they can claim the watches are Swiss made and sells you a rebranded Guanqin at 1000% markup. Buying an actual Guanqin is the right play.
I like that thin beard, looks good. I also like the difference of opinion between you and teddy. He doesn't like Watch Gang too much, while you seem to really like it, at least for someone who isn't that into brands, and thanks to this I see it's not for me
Save the 1200$ and get yourself a single heavy hitter. Omega Seamaster or Omega Speedmaster. Get pre-owned, lots of savings and they are 95% mint condition.
Everything they send me is 45 mm, and looks like I’m wearing a dinner plate. I’ve asked them several times to send watches with smaller cases. I might as well talk to the walls in my house.
The stairs behind you make me think "Mom's Basement"? Would explain the watch choices........ when you grow up, get a career, and make money, you'll see why this video is ridiculously funny. 5 watches you love, and work hard for, are WAY better than a random "we pick what you might like" site.
I am glad it has helped you develop your knowledge and also interest in this specific and fascinating Swiss Timepieces. Personally I am not into that category just yet, I like to learn and read about it, but not ready yet to have one on my wrist. Good points sharing your experience with this segment.
Thanks for the update. You did a great job of explaining the pros and cons of Watch Gang. Since I already own 16 mid-tier to luxury watches, including Seiko, Tag, and Rolex, I prefer to collect new watches sparingly.
If you want a seiko just get a seiko imo. Or an orient, etc. Chrono24 is great for the used market where you can get 70 dollar Orients. The combined watches that you can’t wear all at one time anyway can combine into one quality piece like an Oris, Hamilton, etc
Holy cow I cannot explain how big my eyes got when I saw that 100th anniversary bsa watch. First of all congratulations on getting Eagle, as one myself I know how hard but satisfying that journey was. I HAVE to know more info on that watch. Do you know who made them? Where it may have been purchased from originally? It looks like there is an inscription on the bag that implies this may have been a limited run of 2010 pieces? That is just SO cool and I need to track one down for myself if anyone on earth would be willing to part with one
Thank you!! I was just looking at watches to purchase as a gift and boom - here comes your video. Thank you man, this was exactly what I needed right now.
I've heard that Watch Gang primarily supplies its subscribers with mushroom brand watches that aren't nearly worth their original list price. Have you found this to be true in your experience?
Prefer to pick my own.... Massdrop and Jomashop offers even better discounts and you get what you want. Also I have a huge wrist and most of these watches would not fit me I would be responsible to track down extra links, longer straps etc. Would prefer 5 - 6 great Swiss watches instead of a box full of garbage.
Warning. If you have small wrists like me, Watch Gang may not be the best for you. With my bday money, I did go with the black tier for my first Watch Gang because I wanted to have a nicer watch that hopefully I can dress up with and appreciate for the longer term. This was September 2018. The watch is HUGE because I have small wrists and thought it would be adjustable like every watch I've owned. Not the case. NICE watch with a sapphire glass and Seiko movement. It all still works, the time and chronograph so it's quality. The watch is a Hornet (by motor-time watches) with a white bezel and gold accents retailed at $285. Just wish the band is smaller.
Honestly if your a picky person with watches then don't get it. Just buy your own individually , after all it is a business which means they have the upper hand. Good vid
Makes since.. If you only have $500 a year to spend on watches, maybe a low end Tissot, or mid range Seiko or Citizen would be good.. If you want a $500 collection, you can buy a few decent watches and one pretty nice one.. ($70 Casio, $30 Timex, $150 Citizen, and maybe a $250 Dan Henry as examples but all that could change depending on taste) If you just want to get your feet wet with a variety and don't have a specific preference, or even know what you like, Watch Gang gets you watches that are different, and sometimes surprisingly good. Learn the style you like, and then maybe buy that really nice Omega or Tudor that matches the style you like..
Thanks for this video about the sign up for some kind of program I think and it gave me something to think about and consider for my son. He’s 24 thinking of enrolling him for a year and Iq watches.
Succinctly said. I just wish watchgang have a tier where they deduct monthly and send watch quarterly/ 6 months/ based on the amount that was deducted.
Been a member for almost 1 year now, it has definitely been very good for introducing you to the best brands out there and more knowledge about movements in watches and the value in owning something such as a Rolex or Omega. I have a good balance right now of suspending my monthly subscription and only renewing when there is a deal going on or dropping money on a good deal on the watch wheel, and just saving my money and buying a watch that I really want, last one I got was a Citizen Blue angels AT watch. I have plans to get my own Omega Speedmaster moonwatch in the future though.
I have actually been able to be signed up on their service without paying a subscription. Then when they post a watch that I like, I have found that I can spin the wheel instead. You can put the watch you want that is in the lowest tier that the wheel offers, if your watch is in that tier, in all the slots available and you are guaranteed at least that watch. It takes the guess work out, and I have been able to spend way less on watches that I want. Plus, they are offering if you do want to do a subscription, you can now set it for on-demand.
So its the typical consolidation strategy. They give u surplus only for u to realize that, minimalism through consolidation is the key ! Could be a good learning journey, but thats about it !
He isn’t supposed to be a hardcore watch collector. Not all watch collectors should own luxury watches. You don’t need a Rolex , Tag Heuer or AP to have a nice collection
Quite agree.. 1200$ can be invested much wiser. Unfortunately what most people don't get is that real luxury watches are offering much much more than "name" and "price". Is like saying why should I buy a 30 years old Lamborghini when with the same amount of money I can buy 10 new ones. Or why should I listen to bettles, elvis or Barry white, since dubstep is the sound, music I want to have. Heritage pieces are not fashion accessories. You buying one with the idea to wear it for life And is designed and hand made to last for one. You not own a luxury watch, you borrowed it from your kid.
I'm all about signing up, but to have a bunch of watches (low end), not for me as much as I'd like to open a box a month. I'll stick to TJ max lol maybe groupon. Thanks for the video though.
Let's call this what it is. An advertisement for Watch Gang. This is not an independent review, this is a subjective commentary because you either work for, or receive complimentary benefits.
Just buy a watch from Walmart....same quality and cheaper than 30$ (A MONTH).... also keep ur 30$ and at the end of the year u can get something descent....
I'm in the same place as you I think. Not a full on enthusiast, but more than a casual interest. Totally agree with your perspective on the place a service like Watch Gang has in the community.
This is one of the most helpful reviews I've seen of a product or service. You hit the helpful medium of being an enthusiast, but not a snob. Too many reviews on premium products/services come from the perspective of know-it-alls or brand loyalists -- but this is helpful to a lot of people like me, who are somewhere in the middle. Thanks.
@@arnaudmeert1527 Thanks for throwing in the personal attack at the end. It made it clear to me that discussing anything with you is a waste of time. You're arguing something totally different from what my original comment was. If other people look through this comment thread, you're the one who will look a fool. Have a nice day.
When a company can make a nearly undetectable fake of a $10,000+ watch and sell it for $500-1000, something has gone wrong with genuine pricing. Until the industry has to lower it's arbitrary margins to address fakes, they are just fine. The reality is the kind of people who would buy a superfake would never contribute to the industry anyway.
I am very picky with what I put on my wrist.I either buy a quality piece with heritage or don’t buy anything at all.I was lucky enough to buy omega seamaster chrono,Rolex op,and tudor black bay.Now I am in to grand seiko and their prospex line of watches.i have total of 20 swiss automatic and 3 seiko.Accutron made by bulova also amazing.Micro brands m2k,weiss,Nomos ,squale best watch for the money. You don’t have to spend so much to get an amazing watch but you need to spend at least 500 dollars.
The $2400 a year question is : Would someone be getting flooded with cheap Asian made watches' if your interest is in German Russian and Swiss watches even if going for the Platinum plan. How many Cheap Timex's and Micheal Hill watches would one get compared to the amount of a half decent ETA watches one would receive. My guess is you would get watches that are valued at 200 and not much over that you would be lucky to get a 500 watch once in the years time. Ff you're going to by a good watch don't buy a Rolex go for something exotic like a Lange & Söhne
My boss just fell for this "subscription" and I feel bad, but he's a very pretentious person. So while he sat and lectured me on how he got such a good deal on his $1500+ Invicta and I'm stupid for not signing up, etc. Then when I tried to give him a $70 G-Shock for a birthday gift, his response was "I don't wear cheap shit" LOL 😂🤣🤷♂️
I was on Watch Gang for a few months and got 3 watches under the 100.00 Black tie. I do like the watches that I received, but as you get to be more of an enthusiast, you want to pick better Swiss or Japanese brands that fit your likes and lifestyle. I still think it's a great subscription service, but as you move on with the watch hobby, your tastes get more refined and knowledgeable. All in all, Watch Gang can be a good fit for the starting watch enthusiast. Dennis Sadlicki
@@silverghost4206 they used to do this corny thing where they suggested an MSRP of $1000+ and Mark it on sale for $299 type of gig idk if they're still doing it though
Another suggestion: Don't do it if you're not in USA as you wont be able to trade those microbrands. Even if they had the best intention possible, once they ship few thousand pieces of a single model, that particular watch loses value. Thus, when you try to sell/trade it, anyone researching it either never heard of it - or it ain't worth much.
Taco Jesus Absolutely, such reviews will be biased and gentle knowing they are putting $ into his pockets. It’s a fucking conflict of interest man. Fook!
Getting a bunch of commercials about watch gang. Although it definitely is appropriate for some, getting a watch a month sounds to me like a complete waste. What I feel like is that everyone is after the holy Rolex in this "gang" ( cf the ads) or just as you said it'll take you a few years to "work" your way up a Rolex. And that I don't get. I don't call this being a watch enthousiast I call it being a watch for consumer/hoarded. On the other hand if for some reason you want to build a watch collection from scratch with little to no knowledge in a short amount of time I guess this can work. Just my two cents about it.
First words out of his mouth i was like really....realllly. might as well be wearing a watch gang shirt, hat, poster on the wall behind you that reads, "paid for by watch gang".
No fucking shot somebody got a Bulova Lunar Pilot from Watch Gang. And it’s not a “Special Edition.” Every Lunar Pilotbcomes with the extra strap and tools. 👌🏽
I don't get it... people would rather spend $1200 on cheap watches from China (literally found on Aliexpress and similar sites) than buy one quality watch for that money? Hell, you can buy a neat quality watch from a good brand from Germany or Switzerland for half that, not even to mention buying something Quartz. The entire business model of this company is selling cheap crap to people who cannot distinguish it from high quality watches.
So, I'm looking at the WatchGang website and their total number of watches at the platinum tier has dropped pretty significantly. For example, in May and April of 2018 there were roughly 8-10 options, but later in the year there were only 2 options. Are they running out of stock? Is this a viable way to still go?
Great video & you are 100% correct...I am a real watch collector with over 300 pieces in my collection now (yes its an addiction) but I started out with buying all the BIG BRANDS to celebrate every successful business transaction being in private equity, mergers & acquisitions. But then my tastes changed, I started to buy vintage for a while, most of the time they were two small to wear on my wrist but I love the heritage & story behind each piece I would acquire. Then I moved to pocket watches as this is a small unique market that is also not that expensive to get into from a collectors point of view, which then lead me to the conversion of old vintage pocket watches to wrist watch which was also fun for a while, as now you have an interesting time piece for any conversation on your wrist when you wear it. Now my obsession is Micro Brands, I back everything on Kick Starter & Indigeo, like getting a the mystery watch from Watch Gang it can be very hit & miss - but it is fun & inspires me to get involved with one man operators that need time, business advice, resources, contacts & capital. So a part of me has started to do more of what I love by getting involved in this Micro Brand community, and the meet some really passionate genuine people that design these time pieces along the way. Check out Raven Watches, Visitor & Co Watches (especially the "Vale Park" model), Aquacy, Alexandra James Watches (on KS right now) and I could mention at least another 50 Micro Brands...you will understand. But make sure you take a look at Raven Watches and the story, this genuine man that does everything himself producing a product in small batches equally as good if not better than the Rolex Submariner which is an everyday wear by every finance guy trying to start a career in the World of BIG BUSINESS, I was once that guy as well. But give me a Raven or Alexandra James Watch over the Rolex everyday of the week now,
I enjoy your video, I have been collecting watches for 2 years. I have been leaning as i go of what type of watches i like. So far I am into micro-bands and thinking of joining watch gang.
Rather than spend $1200 getting fobbed-off with a ton of worthless shit, exercise a bit of discernment and seek out something with genuine horological merit. This message wasn't for WatchGang's little salesboy here, it's for anyone else who's considering getting into this trap.
1200$ is a little bit expensive for a learning experience. I’d rather buy one watch or even 12 watches for that price that I really like and that I personally chose.
I think you put watch enthusiasts in two groups. One looking for the history and more into a timepiece and one looking for a 'cool', yet still good watch. I have to say there are some of us that are quite in the middle. My collection holds a number of luxury time pieces, yet one of my favorites is still a $30 watch which is now around 30 years old. But I don't appreciate the $30 watch the way I do some of the items in my collection that are well into the 5 digit price range. They are different items. But my point is a watch enthusiast and collector can appreciate the finer pieces, such as the Omega you have, but can also still enjoy a micro brand or even cheap brand.
I prefer the sundial in my backyard since I work at home selling cheap watches to sucker's online. On days when it's cloudy I just say f' it and crack open a bottle of cognac.
He just sounds too smooth to be just a watch connoisseur & doing an "unbiased video. Sounds like he might be "sponsored" or maybe works for The Watch Gang.
I wondered for a while who watch subscription services were for and your explanation makes perfect sense. Reminded me that not everyone has a watch enthusiast around them either- at work, once people know I'm into watches, their curiosity shows and it turns out, they've wanted to pick up a nice watch for some time but have no idea what's really out there or what they really like. Someone who's been into watches for years has likely spent a lot of time binging forums, searching watch sites, learning about what goes into a watch, and how a watch works likely knows exactly what he or she likes and doesn't like so the idea of getting random watches for that money rather than saving for that wishlist piece is very off-putting. But for that person who hasn't figured out his or her preferences well enough yet, it's actually a great way to test the waters especially with a community of like-folks as well.
Are you going to do another underwear video? Like boxers vs boxer briefs vs briefs? I bought my first pouch underwear thanks to your review video and love to hear your opinions on brands and styles of more classic underwear types (plus your easy one the eyes haha). Much love from this subscriber!
I was on the black tier I really didn't find the watches interesting I think they give the sponsored or the ones they think will give good reviews the best ones
I would say I am watch curious.. Like you.. I started with a Timex as a teenager. I don't have a taste for anything crazy.. Classic, vintage or vintage inspired are always my favorites. I made decent money..not a huge chunk of disposable income let's spend some money on a piece I thought was worth it. Since I discovered watch gang online I have been very curious just haven't made the jump yet
