If you ever come back to Naples you should try "pizzeria Sorbillo" or "pizzeria da Michele" those are the most famous pizza places, especially Sorbillo makes the best Margherita in the world that stuns Neapolitan too, the pizzeria you went probably is historic but today is an average Neapolitan (but still excellent by world standard) pizzeria and not well known, that is why it was empty

What's the name of the hotel you stayed in? It looked like the alley you were walking through was the one near Piazza Dante. I stayed at Hotel Piazza Bellini on the other side of that alley.
