Hong Kong is just another city of mainland China. Canada should require visa to Hong Kong SAR passport holder just like mainland Chinese passport holders. We never know whether China will take advantage of Hong Kong passport to send its agents to Canada bypassing the scrutiny of the visa application process.

Hong Kong is part of China. Which successful country dont have domestic national security law? *HK Basic Law: Article 23* _The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall enact laws on its own to prohibit any act of treason, secession, sedition, subversion against the Central People's Government, or theft of state secrets,_ *to prohibit foreign political organizations or bodies from conducting political activities in the Region,* _and to prohibit political organizations or bodies of the Region from establishing ties with foreign political organizations or bodies._

@@maplehightech should Chinese care for visa free access? Canadians are missing out on major tourism revenue from Chinese visitors as Beijing leaves Canada off its list of approved travel destinations - a move that it is linking directly to Ottawa's recent focus on alleged foreign interference.

@@LivingLonger China along with Hong Kong’s economy is going down to the drain. Investors are leaving China and Hong Kong. Just look at Chinese and Hong Kong stock market. How many Chinese youth cannot find job and how many Chinese lost their job since pandemic. As a Canadian, I am more worried about illegal immigrants and government agents from China and potentially from Hong Kong in future than those tourism revenue which 90% Chinese don’t have money to come to Canada anyways. Hong Kong will soon become former financial center.

In nations that uphold the principles of freedom and democracy, the liberty of the press is a given. However, in places like Hong Kong, the introduction of a new security law has created a situation where one could face punitive measures, and the criteria for such are not explicitly defined. This means that even a minor verbal misstep could potentially result in a prison sentence. Given these circumstances, it's understandable that one might be hesitant to visit such a place.
@lookman7047

@@user-ef3bu2cz1n What is Freedom and Democracy? When modern press reports biasly, is that a given? Unless you have political agenda in mind when visiting other countries. I can assure you the local government will not have time to deal with you even if you run your mouth in the middle of the street. Actually, Singapore has "The Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) which is a statute that grants the executive power to enforce preventive detention, prevent subversion, suppress organized violence against persons and property, and do other things incidental to the internal security of Singapore." Yet people still flock there for holidays. It's because HK which used to be a British colony and now handed over to China that the Western media is making such a fuss. While most if not all countries in the world have similar laws.

In nations where democracy is well-established, freedom of speech allows for the criticism of presidents and ministers without fear of punishment. However, the introduction of a new national security law in Hong Kong, which has ambiguous criteria and can lead to punishment for even minor verbal missteps, creates a situation that might discourage visits to the region.
