I like the fact that they use British L85A1s instead of the Chinese rifles

Still more British than the British

+Spencer UK The fact is there are still over 3M locals holding British issued passports. Though not being granted with the right of abode, yet these are living traditions such Britishness is in our blood and vein.

A staunch reminder of a bygone era. Let not the words of the Central Government belittle Britain, stand up for the people of Hong Kong. For it is the legally-binding Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1984 which is continuously under threat from erosion.

A tragic ending to a prosperous relationship. The British Overseas Territory of Hong Kong shall forever remain in our hearts. God Save the Queen!

I really do appreciate that many of the Hong Kong organizations still participate into this event and preserve the tradition. However, there are some kind suggestions. 1) They should select the honor guard members with similar height. ] 2) The HKAC should change their uniform into the Green one, which the PO is wearing in the beginning of the clip. 3) They should all use a identical model of rifle.

+Edward Lo, point 1 I agree, point 2 also agree the Army cadets could wear the new dress khakis to distinguish them more from the Navy cadets and swap the gay berets against some proper hat dress, point 3 agreed as well because different rifles lead to inconsistent drill movements that make the whole parade look funny.

+azuremain For the army cadets in question, namely Hong Kong Adventure Corps, they are directly successor of the former local territorial army/militia the Royal Hong Kong Regiment(the Volunteers). It's been their regimental tradition wearing Black berets. In terms of the uniforms, they are in No.3 ceremonial dress on parade while the Warrant Officer with pace-stick is in No. 2 since since he is not on parade. Nothing wrong with that?
@azuremain
@azuremain 8 лет назад
+Ernest Ng Sure if that's their traditional dress. Just my personal taste. As long as they don't pin a red star on their hat or uniform all is fine.

1) Agreed. The honour guard should maintain some form of height uniformity to keep things smart. 2) The uniform has traditionally been styled to match the No. 3 Dress for ceremonial duties. As pointed out by Ernest Ng, the Warrant Officer is only dressed in No. 2 Dress because he is not on parade, although it would be more consistent if he too was wearing No. 3 Dress (and took part in the parade). 3) The rifles you see in the hands of the HKAC are all deactivated L1A1s from the armoury of the Royal Hong Kong Regiment (The Volunteers). Knowing that the HKAC is currently the only successor to the now-disbanded RHKR(V), it makes sense to see those rifles in the hands of the cadets; albeit contributing to the inconsistency of parade.

Im sorry if I seem out of touch, but who are the people in uniforms, they're not Chinese military as they wear British uniforms, are they like cadets or something??? Also Im am sorry that we abandoned you to China, you are Hong Kongers, not Chinese, not British, you deserve to have the right to choose your own future, whether that is as a British colony, Chinese colony or an independent nation!

Dang with British style marching and uniforms and sabre in hand even with L85A2s???????? Its fortunate that we still have these but why do we have these? Why wouldn't our government simply replace them with Chinese soldiers and weapons just as they did with the monuments flags?

Because these youth organisations were created during the British era. It’s their tradition. Hong Kong was an international city. Even the Hong Kong police wear similar uniforms like the British period. It’s just that they have different insignia with no crowns, but with the flower now.

What? It literally says on the memorial "the glorious dead" written in english and 1914-1918 is also written in the memotial and the chinese never served in ww1 and they're playing british march using british rifles and using poppy which is a british thing...it's so obvious that it's for the fallen british soldier of ww1 and ww2 if it wasnt controlled by the chinese the flag would be instead british.
