Please stop SMEARING, your people have no right to intervene in Hong Kong. Learn how China has lift over 700 million people out of poverty. And look at your country for the past hundreds years has colonised other countries and you think this is right and democracy? Stop lecturing now and build peace.
The Van Chung what about the legally binding Sino British joint declaration, which is recognized by the UN. Chinese leadership was soliciting support from UN at the time of the agreement. If righteous comments from the rest of the world are not welcomed, why did chinese sign the joint declaration back in the days?
@@thevanchung7568 So true. The UK has done so much harm to the whole world. The appalling thing is that most people just take it as a given. They once forced opium on poor Chinese people and robbed China of HK. Before they returned HK to China, they sowed seeds of separation and chaos in the name of democracy. And HK people are not smart enough see through that?
She evades the questions through a set of bullet points she has memorized and practiced before the interview, the questions need to be tighter, the interviewer should show less emotion. Carrie Lam is in favor of the Chinese government, she wants to satisfy their needs and requests.
It is always standard answers and dodging questions. Like, I already said before. Therefore, no need to answer. Tries to be too smart, too .Listeners are no fools.Statement like "" It is not easy to resign" What is the hidden meaning? Would she get sued if she did not fulfil her term contract as Chief Executive.
@@normantong3475 Sadly thats True Science backs this up as brain scans of sociopaths show that there is no activity in the frontal cortex where Compassion is experienced. Current political systems do not elevate persons of Dharma into high places but serves only the most ruthless sharks and predators hungry for power over others. Stay loving thats real strength !!! xxx
This is what most senior Hong Kong government officials do. C Y Leung is a British National since the early 1970's when he was a student in the UK but pass onto his family once he swore in as Beijing Appointed Chief Executive.
She don'y care the interests of Hong Kong, she is only interested in Xi Jin Ping and The People's Republic of China!!! She is an idiot or genious because she ruins the economy and other interests of Hong Kong!!!
Wow, who was that interviewer? Come over and do our politicians, please. Awesomely framed questions. She didn't have much room to work with. Lam kept her straight face, but she certainly didn't answer any question - nice.
Why of course to the people. Does the "people's republic of china" not considered people to you? Why would she need to ask the HK people if they want to be taken by PRC or not, I mean there's already "People's" in the country's name isnt there???
She claims she is doing her best . But it fell short of the expectations of millions of HongKongers. Who is the best judge of he competency? Obviously the Public at large.Do an opinion poll. The results will be shocking on a score of 1-10.
The Brits never gave HK any democracy, they have no right to question the legitimacy of HK's new chief, who is elected by HK people, not appointed by a foreign government.
Amazing how she doesnt honor everything she says. It reminds me of politicians back in my country malaysia. Soon as they win election in 2018 all promises go to jamban
Quite hypocritical of the BBC to accuse the chief executive of Hong Kong of not being directly voted by the HK electorate, when the British Prime Minister was never voted by the British electorate. In the UK electoral system the electorate only gets to vote for their MP not the British Prime Minister. How many votes did Teresa May get from the British electorate during the 2017 general election?
Ya but thats just a little different, don't you think? The Chief Executive is elected by business interests, mainland interests etc while the PM is elected by MP's elected by citizens. Sure the UK's system isn't flawless but at least it tries to represent its people (i.e. companies don't vote)
'How many Hong Kong citizens need to disappear before you start to draw any conclusion...' Damn good question Carrie. And I don't know why but I feel the days of a journalist being allowed to ask that in the face of a HK politician are counted...
The truth of the matter is if Hong Kong is not really under direct supervision from Mainland China Carrie Lam can very easily answer those questions. She has to take some breath in between because according to Beijing Central One Country Two Systems means the two systems belong to one country and that is China. The people in Hong Kong always take on very different meaning.
If China has every say on Hong Kong these questions are not provocative at all and they can be answer most easily. Those who talk about democracy just one word ,kill, and that's the end of the interview.
When she is saying "well, it depends what the law says" she is basically saying "well, it depends what China says". Sounds like "the rule of law (What China tells her)" is more important to her than human rights or the views of those in Hong Kong.
China has every say in Hong Kong. So why you have One Country Two Systems for Hong Kong ???? Is it like breeding more rebels ? You ask for such nonsense comrade.
two and half years later Carri Lam will still state that she is no puppet to Beijing...and totally ignore the simple six demands of the Hong Kong people.
If BBC wants to promote or bring out the idea of independence in Hong Kong, why not support the indepence of Scotland? Obviously not trying to to help Hong Kong, but to eliminate economic competitors.
Matthew Washer It is not about having the chance to vote, it is about media pushing on one opinion of the story. Anyways, we will see what happens when the Scottish will vote later next year whether to part ways with Britain for the unstability of the country.
This is not the BBC intention. They want to see how well Hong Kong is following the One Country One System of Socialist China. It is ONE Country who possess two systems, Marxist / Leninist socialism and Capitalism with Socialist Chinese Characteristic. This is precisely what it is.
She is a chinese official in charge of HK after handover, not working for England. Of course she make decision to protect china interests, not England. Isn't it obvious...??
Horrible Journalism. What Carrie Lam is saying that voicing out Hongkong independence is allowed because that is freedom of speech. But demanding Independence is against the BAsic law that the British agreed upon. Because if you declare independence then you are violating the one country two system policy, and then you basically negates the Basic Law and give China a reason to invade Hongkong. It's the same that Ireland or Scotland declaring independence and uses state undermining activities as terrorism, that is illegal aswell! Another example Catalonians are not allowed to declare or even speak about independence or they would end in Jail aswell, so don't be a hypocrite! pressing Carrie Lam in such quesitons is a display of disrespect and british arrogance!
The British have no right to say anything about Hongkong! During British colonial rule the governor was handpicked and directly send by the U.K. and even worse it had to be a white british national! It is quite odd that during all these while there was no British national with ethnic chinese origins in the U.K. who could have been governor. At least now Hongkong has a chinese governor who is born in Hongkong! Other than that U.K. could have given Hongkong rights to vote for their own governor, but they didn't. You might say Hongkong was a British colony so the governor needs to be a Brit. This is the same logic China is using! Why can Britain do it and China not? Why race matters you say? First of all language and culture, an ethnic chinese have an advantage over a non ethnic chinese in understanding the ways of its people. during all these while the British governors of Hongkong didn't even learned to speak chinese!
Some people care because they look more outward, others don't. I don't think there is a problem here. You are not forced to care about foreign affairs after all. To those people who hate their way of life being criticised by foreigners, I would say judging between countries are common today because we live in a global society. As long as the criticism only goes to the government rather than people, I don't think there is a moral problem here.
Well you jerk the reason is that what intimidation manipulation etc is happening in one country by a super power can easily be experienced by them or other super powers by us we need to be vigilant and on guard we are one earth and things can easily effect us....so wake up...if people thought like you when Hitler were around more would be dead...get your head out your own ass
Ironic that before the handover Hongkong didn't even had minimum wage, because the British thought that would make their workers too expensive. After the handover, to be exact in 2011, each and every citizen enjoys a minimum wage. That is a big improvement compared to british colonial rule, so i don't know where the journalist get the nerves from to comment on the wealth gap.....the wealth gap have been created by the british for decades, and now Hongkong have to work hard to close that gap. 15:19 Source: www.bbc.com/news/business-13248027
Exactly, people have different views! Based on Confucius theory, one can’t get too much freedom or too much control… Balance is the key in doing everything.
@Sean Yee Ur dumb Maoist system is just an authoritarian structure maintained to keep the communist party establishment in control so they can exploit their people for economic advancement while giving them no freedoms in return. Fuck xi jinping
Well said, it's about balance. All the comments here seems to be irrational and just taking sides, you're either democratic or communist. Reactionary nonsense. The point of the matter is forgotten. If the argument is about freedom, just remember there was no democracy under British rule (only some at the end) , the youth don't know that.. they just know iPhones and Gucci bags they want from the west.
@@Sy2023hk nah they want freedom of speech and freedom to elect their own leaders which they don't get under China, I'm not right wing I just want the people of Hong Kong to determine their own destiny
There are also thousands of northern Irish people claim they are not part of the UK. Also, Scotland wants to be independant. So will the UK government tolerate all these? And since when Falks islands became parts of the UK? Every government is the same, they only speak for themselves.
She is clearly evading the difficult questions. Reporter: “Can you guarantee no arrests for those who demand autonomy or independence from China”. Carrie: Laughs repeatedly clearly demonstrating the puppet she is
Sl Ly at least Taiwan is not as oppressive as profit seeker CCP, no one was oppressed in Taiwan, no organ harvest, no concentration camps, no monks had to self-immolate like in Tibet, heck I can say the democracy there is superior than America. Would rather be in Taiwan since it’s not as chaotic as USA
This British is trying to stir up instability in HK. What freedom did your king/queen give to people in HK? It's Chinese government got the right to HK people from your British.
Gareth Xue Um, are you seriously comparing the current Hong Kong government to the colonial government positively? Gareth "XUE", I think it's time to open your eyes from actual British and young Hong Kongers perspective. While the mainlanders are in Shanghai and Beijing dressing like American hookers, wearing fake Gucci or Louis Vutton clothes, Hong Kongers are spending their money on homes no bigger than car parking spaces. Under the current government or should I say "regime", people living in cages and squalor has almost become normalized. It's always outsiders like you who have the biggest opinions regarding Hong Kong. Just go back to the mainland with your money.
@@JC-rv6lo Open your eyes, and accept the facts, China creates two billionaires a week, www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-45989908. HK is not it was before, and mainland China is not it was before. Chinese are becoming rich because research and development, learning and hard working. If HK was still in UK's hand, HK would get worse. Do not blame the current government, and there is no political methods to bring HK to the position it was. Those idiots, who want to play political card for living, will go to prison, free accommodation and food.
One Country Two Systems is about One country which completely OWNS the two systems and both systems fully belong to one country. The chief executive of SAR Hong Kong has to under under this basic framework. You can call him or her whatever you want but it is their job, to completely answer to Beijing Central authority which administer the two systems.
I am sure Hong Kong will continue to grow. Hong Kong people will live well in the coming years. God Bless Hong Kong and Mainland china and Macau. from xxxxxx
Stop spreading BBC propaganda. Scotland should be a free and independent democratic nation Free from the shackles of imperial Britain to chart out their OWN DESTINY. SCOTLAND FOR SCOTTISH
Hypocritical mainland commie, please get your analogies right before comparing them. Scotland had a referendum and voted to stay in the UK. Britain also gave referendums to its colonies like Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands which also voted to stay. Now lets see China do the same to Hong Kong. Oh that's right, you wouldn't support that because nationalism and double standards are inseparable. At least be honest about it instead of trying to hide behind a non-valid excuse.
This BBC interviewer Carrie Gracie looks so impolite and aggressive to Lab Carrie. She tried to impose her biassed views on Lam, and interrupted Lam's speech. BBC interviewer should first tell people how British treated Hong Kong people. She should first improve her knowledge and learn what is "One country, Two system" before talking about independence. Poor BBC reporter.
She swallowed when asked the spiritual question. Her answer was she does good things. But the Bible goes opposite to this notion of good works earn your way to heaven so she was absolutely flawed in that answer.
Then please tell your motherland to stop this absolute nonsense of one country two systems. This is not the path Marx and Lenin will take.Hong Kong should be ruled with an iron fists with 100% full nationalisation. Long LIve Socialism.
Hong Kong deserves the right to self determination, whether it be to vote to fully join China, go it alone or to realign itself with the UK. Carrie Lam talks a lot about giving the young people of HKSAR a say in its future. But utterly lacks actual resolve in giving the young people a future worth living in HKSAR a future they can choose. And we can all see why, Beijing would rather see the place put to the torch than give meaningful democratic rights. Whilst it could be remarked that Carrie Lam is a powerful, direct and capable speaker she is nothing more than the extension of the CCP.
My goodness. She is a BIG liar. Just take note of her normal and relax (apart from her fake stereotypes smile) body language during the first two questions and compare that with her intensified eyes motion during 2:30-2:45.
People who have 'disappeared' need to avoid their discontent. Meanwhile, we are investigating the situation. Oh, by the way, it's very difficult to investigate the case.
H.E. Michael K J Jonnel well, get London to vote for independence if they win then they can rejoin EU. (Fact: 75% of Londoners voted to stay) where is their freedom of self determination?
Tianrui Zhang have you listened to the Interview? the pictures she paints is far from the truth. Hong Kong is not what it once was, because of politicians like her whose interested are China's orders
H.E. Michael K J Jonnel do you know when democracy do not work? Simple. It clapses when the voters are not wise enough to vote for their own best interest. Brexit is one example, a complex issue should not have been presented to the mob. 50 years of building of Euro project infrastructure being destroyed in a single day. Sad and stupid. The purpose of English media orchestrated HK independence talk is much sinister and is to ultimately destabilise China and derail it from its fast developing trajectory.
