There are definitely some interesting corners to find in Hong Kong. While being in central Hong Kong I stumbled upon a busy street food place, so I decided to give Hong Kong street food another try. Later I found a place where people do "villain hitting", which reminded me a lot about voodoo. A very unique and interesting experience here in Hong Kong.

The golden thingy thrown symbolizing the permission or answer granted for something she requested before that. Both sides facing up or down denotes disapproval whereas facing opposite sides denotes otherwise. 20:53 the shaman lady was asking the Tiger God to protect you. 21:07 The sweeping your palms action symbolizes the ridding of villains of you by uttering ‘go away’, then the beating ritual to enunciate it. 21:37 you were right with your own translation. 22:53 the yellow paper was some sort of amulet for protection. The red packet you got said 900 million tael, denoting you are blessed with wealth this year. Hope it helps.

The sweet toast in Hong Kong is really delicious, and the Hong Kong-style French toast fried with butter and eggs is always my favorite! Ken, you are right, those people with stickers on their chests should be from the Chinese travel group! Villain hitting／打小人 is a popular voodoo ritual in the Pearl River Delta of Hong Kong and Guangdong. It is hoped that the so-called "villains" can be driven out through this voodoo ritual. Villain hitting is actually just an act of protecting yourself, not deliberately cursing others. The correct meaning of the villain is anyone around you who is unfavorable to you! Ken, you are a very humble and polite young man, everyone likes you, I am sure you don't need that ceremony, but you are really suitable for traveling in Asia! It's not voodoo as Voodoo is an actual religion itself. Villian hitting is more of a folk believe/sorcery.

11:30 they are tour groups from mainland China. The site there is Bauhinia Square, and the bauhinia statue commemorates HK's return to China in 1997. I am a local in HK and you have already been to more interesting places than me (like the dim sum place in the last video and Sha Tau Kok). Not to mention trying the villain hitting 😅

yes you are right. 21:38 she asked the tigars to bite all bad people around you. 21:42 she shouted "JAU" which means "go away". 22:43 the yellow paper is a kind of amulet. The red pocket is a sign of good luck. 23:09 she said "good luck from to start to the end of the year, earn a lot money and fill all your pots and pans, and then buy houses and cars. And the white paper represents the ancient chinese bank note which is 900M ancient chinese dollars

It is so interesting to see you trying the Villain hitting under the flyover, that was the district where I grown up, called Wanchai. And may be ten year later, you may find the dai pai dong which you have toasts and lemon tea was not there any more, cause they are closing down one by one when their owners retired, so it is so nice you have tried and filmed them. Welcome to Hong Kong again!

10:56 that thing is the Golden Bauhinia, which is a famous sculpture and is the symbol of Hong Kong! The golden bauhinia is shown in many ceremonies and famous events, especially on the 1st of July, the day Hong Kong was handovered and is a national holiday, (kind of like 4th July in the USA).

Yummy toast and a lovely stroll in Victoria Park and Victoria Harbour....very beautiful, clean and well maintained. The "villain hitting" ritual/ "da siu yan" (in Cantonese) is very interesting and knowledgeable. Though l have heard of it but today, in this video, l can see you taking part in this ritual. A big applause to you for giving it a try, Ken. That ritual aunty/lady said that there are a lot of bad people and bad luck around you so she bashes the images of those targets and also to get rid of your bad luck. The card in that red envelope picked by you indicates that you will be rich, will be able to buy big car and house in the future 😄🙏 Wherever you go, always bring along that red envelope with an inscribed yellow paper for protection. A big thanks for this great and interesting content. I really enjoyed this vlog. Well done for the good job, Ken. Keep it up !!!

Welcome to Hong Kong, Ken. The helicopter you saw at seaside belongs to the Government Flying Service. If the helicopter lands there, mainly performing medic transport, picking patients from the outlying island to the city.

Yes, and go in the direction U are looking at the helicopter and go for 4 MTR station to Sheung Wan, you can catch a helicopter to Macau, around 30 minutes trip. I think around HKD $2000+ each.

1st throw of the shell by you is good (one open and one closed) 2nd throw by you she mentioned is no good ( she mentioned you have many 小人）So she used the stick to hit the paper as a symbolism of getting rid of the bad people in your life. She then passed you a piece of inscribed yellow paper slated into a red packet for your protection together with a lucky greeting （招财进宝). You bring it wherever you go. That’s the process. Cheers!

About the villain hitting, I’ve read that some people used to do it vodoo style harming some specific bad people (you can write their name on the tigers), but since in Taoist theory such demonic things you do comes back to yourself (karma, in buddhist term), so few people do that now, instead, they ask for peace and resolving conflicts.

The golden statue everyone was taking photos of is the Golden Bauhinia, it's located next to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This was where the handover ceremony was held in 1997. The Bauhinia is the floral symbol of Hong Kong and also appears on the Hong Kong flag.

Yup, typically Hong Kong dai pai dong .... In Hong Kong, well in my case, chances you always have to share tables when eating out. I do have to admit , The Hong Kong nightview is exceptionally incredible... One of the best of all the places that I have visited... Still hope you are having the time of your life in Hongkong. 10:40 The place is called Golden Bauhinia Square, so you know what the statue is. Bauhinia is the flower of the city, and the statue was a gift from the Chinese government to Hong Kong; and many Chinese visitors like to take pictures there. As a local I don't find it too special though. 12:04 While villain hitting is quite a special sight, it's not exactly common among locals. It's also technically a type of Chinese witchcraft (distinct from folk religion like folk Taoism), so something to be cautious about.

The hitting villain process is to shoo away the negative and bad influence ppl around you. The throwing of the thing before the ceremony is to ask for gods permission to bless u.. "very very good" is when the God agrees to bless u.. hitting paper man of with the shoe is like bashing the bad ppl in your life and she would curse them as she hits it. The burning of the fire ard u symbolises burning away bad energy. The yellow piece of paper in the end is a good luck charm... I'm from hk and hope u enjoy my city

That stall you ate the toast is in Tin Hau yea? There is an indoor swimming pool in Victoria park. 10:51 is the Golden Bauhinia square which is a common tourist spot for mainlanders. The villain hitting lady actually told you not to record her in the video. 😅

Many people from China goto the place near the sea side take the photos. The golden flower which is the symbol of HK . That is the reason why they take the photo, because it is only place in HK have this golden flower. (Made in China built 1997, 1 July.) That is important day HK back to China.

That’s a tiger god and she is beseeching the god to eat the bad people and bad luck. What u were throwing was to show how much bad people or bad luck was affecting you. After that she burns the tigers to come eat the bad people or luck away. The card was for good luck and the symbol in the circle is to invite prosperity “cao cai”.

If there’s someone you hate, you can bring the photo of that person to the ceremony and let the lady slap the photo, in a way it’s casting bad luck to that person as well
