Video circulating online shows Hong Kong singer and actor Andy Lau narrowly avoiding a fall off stage during a concert in Shanghai on July 5, 2024. Nearly half of his body was hanging over the edge of an elevated platform, shocking hundreds of fans at the show. Lau apologised the day after, saying he didn't expect the stage “to be so slippery”.

I think he was apologizing to his fans for scaring them, and that he nearly put himself in danger in front of a live audience. Obviously fans care about their artists and want to see them healthy and safe. He isn't a magician or a professional stuntman. He's an actor/singer. So him apologizing for that dangerous stunt isn't weird from a publicity standpoint.

@@succatash that platform was roughly 4 meters above solid ground. If he fell and cracked his head, broke his limbs, etc., do you think that the audience would just brush that off as "part of being a performer"? What if children were watching? Our shock factor is already high whenever trained circus performers do dangerous stunts. What more if it was someone who wasn't?

@underthesun-ml4mu none of that happened. An audience knows dancing on a 13 foot platform is dangerous. He wasn't injured, he didn't even come close. Can Andy lau walk on the zhangjiajie glass bridge or people will be scared for him and he do anything. If you're so worried do what the West does. Us actual safety equipment.

Andy is fitter than most people at their 30s or 40s. Being 60 doesn't mean you are old. Is fit and extremely healthy in body and mind with his kind of lifestyle. Also is a trained performer on top of that. That mindset of above 60s is a bit outdated. Same goes for Aaron and Chow Yun Fat. If you would measure their actual age based on mind and fitness they are way younger than their number.

@@alimfuzzy he is on tour in china. The gov officials will see this a dangerous act to copy and if it circulates china Social media, they fear people will copy him or praise him for suriving it. Something chian government doesn't want. So he either gets cancelled, or he apologises and says he didn't mean it, and he can continue with his tour.

@@GrayFolk018-eu1lw Just on my final point alone - There are hundreds of people involved in preparing and running his concerts, it's not just as simple as him jumping on stage and singing a few songs. If he gets injured, that's a lot of effort, money and man-hours down the drain. Not to mention the thousands of fans who bought his tickets and made preparations to see him, who would have to cancel their plans and be disappointed because he got injured trying a dangerous stunt

Performers onstage usually cannot see the edge of the stage. This is because of the very bright lightings shining on the stage combined the dark audience seating area. This literally blinds anyone standing onstage. Several performers fall off stage due to this.

Woa..that was close.....phew..... He almost fell off the stage but was quick with his hand. Ya, he gave everybody a scare. Glad that he apologised and explained that the act was unintentional and did not realise that the lifted platform was slippery.

Why need to apologise? If the fans really care about him, they should be going after the organiser. Andy should also openly criticise the organiser and reserve his rights to sue them or threaten to cancel the rest of the tour. Use this incident for marketing and also get more money from the organiser.

It was totally deliberate, a way to get fans talking and sharing his videos. There was no way a stunt like this hadn't been practised over and over again. He didn't even look particularly surprised when it happened.

Hopefully Andy's other concert stages keep his safety and the safety of the other performers in mind. Any stage design that puts the safety of the performers at risk is a poor design.

The design of the stage is hazardous. Wong Ka Kui of Beyond fell off the stage and died in Japan back in 1993.

They build the space station, gigantic super malls, bridges, railways, speed trains. A feat, no other countries can achieved by their standards and capability. Having moon soils from the moon, far greater achieved than singapore and other western countries can dream about.

@limk8994 This will not happen in Singapore and such an incident will be investigated. Its a platform above 3 meters without any safety measures. Concerts and events in Singapore require a risk assessment report under the country's Workplace Safety and Health (Risk Management) Regulations.
