I have get one, and the BIOS is blocked to not allow to boot and install Linux or other operating system that is not the one with the laptop. Support has told me that there is no way to do it.

@@borjaronda2097 strange thing. I've heard, that peoples was successfully installed linux and there was only problem with fingerprint-sensor (suppose because of lack of drivers or something like this)

@@Kucherenko90 I have been discussing a whole day with huawei support and is what they have told me. In my case I am not able to boot a live linux. I have not been able to find any experience in the web where they have linux installed and running. Is true that now I have just received another email from other guy from support from huawei, and now they say is possible. :( It is a bit frustrating. I have asked to give it back.

I setup Linux for a friend on an a previous model of the Matebook Pro X and the bios was indeed shite, but i could change boot devices (it wasnt clear you had to do via the F5/F6 keys and also disabled secure boot (there was a need for some custom dkms drivers anyway which were unsigned so there was no point in enabling it). You might be able to access these settings through the windows install via Startup repair > Advanced > UEFI settings. I would not take Huawei supports word on anything.

For me, the most important thing is the quietness of the cooling system, so that it turns off when working with text or even in the browser! Tell me how quiet (noiseless) this laptop is?

I own the Magic book 14 and i work a lot with it. Most of the time the fan is turned off and the system makes no sound at all. I think it's just the same with the Pro version.

is at least one of the usb-c ports an all service one ? Power Delivery, Displayport Alt mode and data ? What is the frequency of the RAMs used ? Are they soldered to the board ? What about ssd speed and user exchangeability ? Wi-fi card ? How bright is the panel in nits and what is the color accuracy ? Are you sure a webcam thats looking at your chin is ideal ?

GTA is limited to 30FPS because you set V-Sync to half so the game runs with half the FPS the panel can display

Thanks for the review! Which color is that? is it 'space gray'? or ... ? I keep seeing only one color available in my country (Russia), and it is some kind of 'light gray', not same as yours. You should consider that the graphic card is very weak. So if you want to do some "media things" which afford high graphic power you might be bottlenecked quite fast from the graphic capacity.

There is a slot for a 2.5” drive but I don’t see any SATA connection cable and I could not guess how or where to attach a SATA cable to the board. If anyone knows this, hola.

I'm actually surprised by the graphics performance, its much better than I thought. Handles gaming and video editing very well. Will see how it performs after long term usage. Full review coming soon.

Going to drop some cash on this. They are £600 atm and with a 100% rgb screen that's pretty good. Was looking at the ASUS Vivobooks but they don't even have USB 3.0 on the type A ports. I need at least one of those.

Webcam placement seems strange, doesn't it just point up your nose in use and you can't adjust the angle like a bezel mounted one - you didn't show us how it looks in use.

Around 10 hours watching videos and general browsing and office docs. Playing GTA V nonstop battery lasted around 2 hours. But plug in the fast charger 🔌 and 50% battery in only 30 mins.

Hey, Chigz! Some people write about too thin metal chassis that can be pushed and change its form. So build quality isn't good as it looks like. Is it true?

This laptop has a premium build but hawei dropped the ball with the gpu. They should have gone for a Rx 5600m instead of vega 6. So you can do some proper gaming on it. Even if they charged 1000$ for it that would have been much better.

Sadly there is place for it, but no connector. There is even place for bigger battery. I think they wanted to have this premium look, performance and display, but have to sacrifice a few things to achieve the price point. So no thunderbolt for example. Either you are happy with it as it is, or you have to pay double for the same performance, but a little upgradable.

If we talk about just raw performance then the MacBook Pro 15" (2016) i7 model scores 7274 on CPU passmark but the Honor MagicBook Pro scores 15.059. So you can expect more than double the performance in the Honor MagicBook Pro. Now comparing windows 10 to MacOS is a different story. But overall performance you will find the Honor MagicBook Pro to be much better than the MacBook Pro 15" (2016) i7 model.

I've just noticed the magicbook 14 has Rx Vega 8 and this has Rx Vega 6. Does this make this laptops gpu weaker than the previous model?

No, each vega cu in the new 4000 series laptops is about 60% faster than the vega cu in the 3000 series laptop - (there are fewer cu in the new model however). The Vega 6 in the 4500U (not this laptop I know) ends up around 20% faster in total compared to the Vega 8 in the 3500U - Not sure if the Vega 6 in the h series is the same.

Actually the vegas 6 APU has a much better overall performance than the Vega 8 in the previous gen magic book 14. The CPU (APU) passmark will also tell you the Magicbook Pro is much faster. 7391 vs 15,059(Magicbook Pro)

Thank you for the great review Sir Chigz.. Only wish it did not use Win 10 or any Windows. Just wrote Microsoft a nasty letter 2 days ago about there lousy Win. 10 and bothersome update bothersome weekly update BS.. U can see hear where I’m comng from you’re young and heavy into gaming like millions of young uns are these days. I never heard of this brand but it seemed to be working just fine and you use first edition without a hitch. Looking at a Lenovo or the VANKYO which is China made.. Need to back off Chna made stuff if possible.. anywho, Thnx Mr. Chigz, your review I enjoyed as I usually do.
