I just ordered one of these for my 2017 Escalade. One thing I would like to mention is that if there is a constant 12VDC+ at the plug, it would be nice to have a 3-wire bare lead as some dash cameras work with enhanced features when given Constant, ACC, and Ground. I might get out my power probe when it arrives and fish for it myself.

I’ve been using the Dongar DashCam Power Adapter for several years in my vehicles. Highly recommend coming off the Rear View mirror for power to totally avoid the airbags in the A-Pillar.

I added these same harnesses in two Silverados, a '19 and a '21. They are great! I kinda wish the wire between the two connectors on thier harnesses was a little shorter. That would have made tucking in those wires a lot easier. Other than that Gen5DIY makes great products. My '19 has had the harnesses for that radar Detector in it since 2019. So I can confirm that they are made to last and I have had zero problems with it since install. Another note for anyone trying this, that small plastic piece in the middle Don took out last, should be the first piece popped loose then the sides pulled out. I used a similar pry tool up by the headliner to pop the middle piece out then the sides come right off. Great Video!

Omgoodness thanks Donslife ....I've been looking for a harness for bel radar detector for my 2022 gmc sierra, went to Gen5diy found what I needed also gave them the Vin number shipping was very fast couldn't be happier with a clean install thanks again DONSLIFE 👍 also the cover for the mirror was point on becareful with the little tabs 👀

@@zachstenson8307 mounted it using a BlendMount and with the plug and play wiring it couldn’t have been any easier. It’s a very clean look. Definitely recommend!

As long as your mirror receives power, it is likely compatible, but you’d need a different harness. I left a link to their website in the video description

I have a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE. With a rear camera, I would like to put a front camera on it. How do I do it? Also with the tailgate you have to have your keys in your pocket. How can you stop that? And just open it up regularly.

Hey the dash cam you have do you think the plug in play they have on the website would work instead of taping into the cigarette/lighter port? Like you did in your other video. I have a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 elevation x31

I think so as long as we’re talking about the same dashcam. They have adapters for my Nextbase dashcams but not my Thinkware ones.

Will this work for a dash cam since most are 5V? Doesn't look like there is room for a 12v to 5v adapter in the mirror housing.

Usually you just pick the right cable for 12v or 5v, and the right tip. The have a selection for each technology

You’d need to find an Android box that would allow a camera to connect to it. I could see a usb cam being connected but then you’d need software to control it. Might not be worth the effort. Maybe a company will develop a plug and play solution

my question would be constant power to the dashcam? I am about to install a Thinkware 1000 and it requires constant power for a parking monitor mode…is this cable ignition powered only?

Depends on the vehicle so you may want to test the circuit beforehand for constant un-switched power. I have a thinkware hardwired in with their kit to a fuse panel. This was the best option for parking mode. Some dashcams like Nextbase have capacitors for a small amount of use without access to power.

@@markw9699 did this work for you? I have a ‘21 Tahoe with auto dimming and I was torn between the thinkware and the blackvue bc both are 12v. I ended up buying the blackvue dr590x but it doesn’t turn on when I hook it up to the gen5 connector. It only works when I hook it up directly to the charging outlet so I know the camera works but something with the mirror/gen5 plug is not…

Thanks for your reply. I subscribed to your channel and found it about an hour ago. My AT4 is a 2023 and the dash camera is Nextbase. Already installed in my X5. Bought the hardwire kit from Nextbase. The fuse box has a several fuse locations “not used”. I’m assuming I can check to see if they have power to one side and then use one of those. Otherwise I’ll just use F26 which is the UNS charger. Going to hook it up in the morning. Have a great night.

Not that I have seen. The closest so far is the Performance Data Recorders on the Corvettes can do continuous recording from the front camera when the vehicle is on

How do you mute the alerts on the detector?

It depends on the model but mine has the ability to adjust sensitivity for every band, turn then off completely or silence with a push of the middle button. The owner’s manual should tell you how for yours
