Hi dear AutoFun I am from Australia and I have Toyota Camry hybrid 2013 and I believe there is no fuse box in the cabin , I believe two fuse boxes in the engine bay , if you are familiar with this . How can I route wires from engine bay fuse box to the cabin?
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 2 года назад
@@MShaafi Hi SHAAFI MEDIA! ah if there is not fuse box inside the cabin, then the installer will have to run the cable thru the car's firewall, some installers will actually drill a hole right thru it, I usually find an existing hole and route the cable thru there. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Thanks for discussing the possible interference with an airbag deployment. The general public is not knowledgeable about the design, packaging and deployment of side curtain airbags. As a retired airbag design engineer, I would hate to see a carefully designed, tested and validated supplemental restraint product not work properly because a car owner unintentionally degraded the deployment path or timing. Or injure themself in the process of making a modification.

Pete, Is it recommened to install the wires behind the airbags then?
@BlenderGamerFreaq
@BlenderGamerFreaq Год назад
I'm having a hard time seeing how a small wire can interfere with the airbag? The airbag being inflated happens which such a force that the cable simply would snap or being pulled with the airbag. Has this ever been tested?
@Gryph0508
@Gryph0508 Год назад
@Tobias Brage I think there is less concern that it will mess with the airbag and more concern the cable will mess with your face when it deploys.
@samhain9394
@samhain9394 9 месяцев назад
@@Gryph0508lol, right? Or the airbag will yank the cable as it inflates and that cable will yank the dashcam, either of which ending up connecting with your face or body.

All I can say here, is that you do a darn good job on these videos! I first watched because I bought a Rove R3 Dash Camera and a hard-wiring kit, and wanted to know how best to install it. Your videos were a big help! Unlike another video I watched, you DID mention the power polarity when re-inserting the fuses. If polarity isn't observed, the dash cam may work but the circuit you plugged into may not! Lol. Thanks again.

Excellent video! I really appreciate the breakdown for this specific car model. 6:01 I will say to note, in general, ground should always be the last wire you connect. Correct me if I've overlooked anything, but the reason you connect ground last when jumpstarting is because there's a micro spark when you close the connection, and you would rather have that spark happen on your wide ground cable vs small delicate voltage connection.
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 9 месяцев назад
Thank you Red! Ah regarding the order of the connections, you have a good point. I'm not a EE but on house mains, grounded appliances have a grounding pin on their plug that is designed to make contact before Neutral or L. Now on a car, jump starting, the reason we connect the positive first is that if the negative sides are connected first, and the car chassis is bumped with the positive clamp you can create a short. By connecting positive sides first, even if the ground clips touch the body of the car nothing will happen since the car chassis it's self ground. But yeah the order of the connections really just depends on the application (and yep even if connecting negative last, there is a chance for sparks as the connection is made, now this can be an issue when jump starting the battery naturally expels gases that are combustible, which is the reason some smart jump starters or battery maintainers will only deliver power after detecting both clamps are connected eliminating the risk of a spark (and partially the reason we connected negative to the car's body not to the actual negative terminal on the battery). Cheers!

Thank you B B! Ah yes I normally run a minimum of 2 dashcams on my car for redundancy, a normal dash cam and a mirror dash cam, this is one of them ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TvKRKYA7cgQ.html and the mirror dash cam will vary depending on what mirror dash cam I'm testing at the time. Hope this helps, Cheers!

Thanks so much! Very informative. I do have two questions: 1. Where do you get the small white pliers to pull the fuse out of the fuse box? Does the Corolla come with them? 2. Do you have a video that shows how to install the rear dash cam as well? Thanks!
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun Год назад
You're welcome ismokeguam1! ah yes the white fuse puller came in this kit ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9Pq3UKQNrcU.html however it doesn't last long, I almost consider plastic fuse pullers disposable, small needle pliers last longer. Here is also the video showing the installation of the rear camera ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-44WXN8MI66o.html Cheers bud!

Thanks canucha1985! Ah yes the probe comes with this kit amzn.to/3fyFELM and yeah I find it super convenient specially for installs like this over a voltmeter or those screwdriver light up type. Best explanation. I’m going to get a battery pack for the parking mode and plan on installing it at the trunk, plug into a cigarette lighter socket at the back. I’m wondering if I can just route the wires along the edge of the headliner and not run into any airbags cause mine has airbags at all three pillars. 😅

Thanks Species 5618! yeah definitely more challenging on newer cars now that there are air bags everywhere (which is good for safety and a slight hassle for us installers LOL) Cheers!

I really enjoy your install videos, very informative and very professional. Do you have experience with dash cam installs on 2023 C8's? I would appreciate your expert advise on what type of dash cam is best for that car model and any install advise? Thank you
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 2 месяца назад
Thank you Ted! Ah I haven't done an install on a C8 yet but most installs for the most part are very similar (same techniques and challenges). Regarding a good dash cam for the C8, there are some good options out there. Just depends on what you are looking for in a dash cam. I run different ones on my cars so what I usually tell people looking for the right dash cam for them is to start by picking the style of dash cam (Mirror or classic stick). Then how many cameras does it need to have (1, 2 or 3). Now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Then consider any special features you are looking for such as 360° video, Side Camera, Wi-Fi, Parking monitor without hardwire, cloud support, High Frame Rate. Finally you would want to compare video quality. I have several dashcam reviews on my channel under the playlist "dashcams" if you like to compare them. Cheers!

Thanks for putting this video Alex!! So Awesome! Gives me more confidence to do mine as well. Quick question, is the battery drain noticeable when the 24H parking/TimeLapse option is turned on? Thanks again!
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 5 месяцев назад
You're welcome HoverPilder! Ah that will depend on the dash cam that is being used (some use more power than others while in park mode) and also depend on the car's battery, size, age, health condition and state of charge. In addition to that you also want to take in consideration any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (mind you that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). And here is the battery tester I use ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kCNrfa8RUKU.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. Cheers!

Ok I'm going to have to go back into the a pillars and redo the wiring then. When I installed my wires I just fed it through the crevice with a tool and you said it is over the airbag. I dont trust it now lol so I want to redo it proper. I had to buy s different hardwire kit for my GKU m11 as the one I bought only supported ACC and ground so I couldnt enable parking monitor mode. Once that new kit arrives Friday, I'll redo the GPS and the power to the cam like you suggested.

Hi Jahalang82! yeah definitely worth it to use a hardwire that enables parking mode, you never know what could happen when the car is parked and your away from it. Cheers!

Hello , thanks for your videos very well explained. Can you tell me when to use a 3 wire kit or a 2 wire kit, and if you know , it is safe to hardwire a highlander hybrid?. Thanks so much.
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun Год назад
You're He tor Moreno! and thank you! ah yes regarding 2 vs 3 wire hardwire kits, the hardwire kit required will be determined by the dash cam you are using. Some require a 2 wire hardwire kit and some require a 3 wire hardwire kit. Here is a video where I explain the differences in more detail ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yky9_tTvwMc.html Regarding hardwire in a hybrid, this is going to depend greatly on the Make, Model, and yr of the car. Some hybrids have a tiny car battery and a hardwire kit will not yield the same benefit as in gasoline cars with a full size battery. Also in some hybrids (and some electric EVs) are sensitive to hardwire kits and may throw a code if a hardwire kit is connected. The best way to find out if your vehicle is compatible with a hardwire kit would be to check the owners manual or contact the dealer or manufacturer to check if it is. Hope this helps, Cheers!

Great video, thank you! Can the battery wire be left without connecting it to the fuse box? I don't want continuous recording.
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun Год назад
Thanks Sanj! Ah regarding the BATT wire, most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected in order for the kit to work correctly. Most dash cam also will let you turn off park monitor if you don't need it. And here is my hardwire kit video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yky9_tTvwMc.html showing the different types of hardwire kits available for dash cams. Hope this helps, Cheers!

wonder if there is enough wire to run the cable instead of going up and across, go down and across (avoiding the side curtain airbag altogether) and go under the interior plastics at the bottom of the doors and then up through the panel beside the rear seat and then to the camera, thoughts?
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 2 года назад
Hi Mike! yes that is a good idea on most dash cams there is enough length to route the cable in a different way avoiding the air bag all together. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Such a great and instructive video! It touches everything that should be known for such installations. One question popped up when I watched the video: you used one of the empty fuse slots for the hardwire connection. Normally, the diagram shows how much amp that particular slot supports but there is no info regarding the empty slots on the diagram. Did you presume that the lowest would be 5A, or take a blind shot since most dashcams draw less than 5A overall? Overloading might be an issue, that is why I wanted to ask that. Best regards!
@AlexAutoFun
@AlexAutoFun 3 месяца назад
Thank you Ozan! Ah good question, installers can use the cars service manual and the wiring schematics to determine if the internal wiring and current load on the circuit to be tapped can sustain an additional load. And here is my follow up video where I cover how I find ACC and BATT on any car ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2iKXj82354.html Cheers!
