I'm pretty sure that middle part is called the "thingy".

I have the Hoop and it’s a great little brewer. Simply add grinds and pour water. No need for stirring, etc.
@pmcollett
@pmcollett 4 месяца назад
I find I need to stir as I get dry coffee floating up when pouring in the water...even pouring slowly

Regarding water flow inconsistency, I've noticed that too and I always pour in a circular manner; I also do some kind of (cold 45 degrees) bloom by doing a first pour directly in the center ring via a gabi master B, I think that's better than blooming through the outer ring, the coffee bed gets saturated more uniformly and it looks less susceptible to uneven agitation by the subsequent second pour from the outer ring.

Thanks for sharing your experience and your technique. Cleaver the idea of using Gabi, I've tried with Melodrip (I lost my Gabi), I had better results also in terms of extraction, but then I thought that it makes the whole system too complicated for what this brewer is made for. I'm preparing a second video about Hoop with more info. We will see

I noticed Hoop on Whole Latte Love site while shopping for a grinder. Thanks for the review and hope that you will give some details on grind size in future videos. Liked and already subscribed from your Moka Pot videos. :)

'Cylinder' is definitely a better name. It isn't a cone!

I will not buy one because I really like to be active in the coffee brewing process. I tend to stick to pour overs. For the same reason I almost never make French press coffee. And because I don’t think french press goes particularly well with the sorts of coffee beans I like.

It make sense. The pleasure of pouring water is unbeatable. It's like driving a car with the stick. In fact I thing this brewer is good to get people without pour over experience close to filter coffee. Then with the time, improve the skills, get a gooseneck kettle and start to craft your turbulence.

Maybe you are willing to review the Stanley Classic Perfect-Brew Pour Over? Same principle as the Hoop but without the paper filter. I use it for camping and am curious what you think of it.

Honestly, I've never heard of that before. Thank you very much for the idea. I will look into it :)

How about hoop as a camping solution? How is the coffee compared to an aeropress go for example?
@matteofromtheswamps
@matteofromtheswamps 5 месяцев назад
I think it can be actually a great solution. Aeropress can be messy sometimes and require harder work. But probably with Aeropress you can brew more cups with take at the same time if you use bypass technique. But Hoop is so simple

Thanks for this video. I saw this on Whole Latte Love and was tempted to buy one but the reviews were mostly negative. I think you potentially identified what may have caused some of the issues in the reviews. I'll be interested to see your follow up videos. Thanks again !

Thanks for the comment. Also other friends of mine have difficulty with this brewer. So I totally understand. I'm already diving deeper into it.

I have a problem with this brewer: I always have an unpleasant dry/dusty mouthfeel and aftertaste with this brewer. So normally that means you need to grind coarser and use lower temperatures. I‘ve adjusted the grind coarser so that 210g of water drain in 2:30 and the coffee tastes too weak, but the unpleasant mouthfeel is still there. Should I increase the dose/shorten the brew ratio and still grind coarser?

What kind of coffee you using? I'm preparing a second video about Hoop trying different coffees, and it doesn't work well with all of them unfortunately.

Great video, Matteo! What is the max amount of coffee you can brew with this method? Usually i'm brewing for me and my wife 500ml outcome and I suggest the hoop is partially working as V60 (you can add water on demand). Is it possible to fit 30g of coffee in cylinder/cone? And another question for you to suggest: I do have V60 and Aeropress and consider to by either Hoop or Kalita Wave. Which one you suggest to choose to have the biggest difference between V60 and Aeropress?

Hi, Thanks for the comment. I actually didn't try yet with a bigger dose. I will test it for the next video. If you brew big brews I suggest the Orea Big Boy. I didn't fully review it yet. You can find it in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3Ta3HcD5kf8.html This is perfect for big brews like you do. Have a look into it, hopefully I can manage to make a full video about it soon.

Maybe I missed it, but what's the temperature of the coffee after you've just finished brewing?
@matteofromtheswamps
@matteofromtheswamps 5 месяцев назад
Hi, I didn't mention it in this video. The coffee is hot, more than drinkable temperature. I used boiling water to brew with it. In the next video I'll dive deeper into the brewer and temperature will definitely be a topic
@nmatheis

Thanks for the quick reply, Matteo! This does seem like an interesting product and my first thought was that there's a lot of surface area for heat loss. I imagine pre-heating the vessel receiving the coffee would work well. Looking forward to the next Hoop video!

Nice idea, but pity that it needs a paper filter. Otherwise would have been great for camping.
