The greenhouse film I use for this high tunnel is 32' x 100' UVA, or UVA IR or UVA IR AD film. Since my high tunnel is 93' long that is not enough to also cover the ends. I use pieces of film from some of my earlier failures to cover the ends walls. The longest I would go on my high tunnel if I wanted to make sure I could also cover the end walls with a 100' roll of plastic would be 78'.
I like these hoop houses a lot! I plan on building one in the next week or so. I am not sure if I missed it or not but did you say what size poly you used. I assume it would be like 32' x 100' UVA Clear Greenhouse Film.
Yes, it is 32 x 100--which will leave about one foot on each side to lay on the ground. However, that doesn't give enough to cover the end walls. If I wanted to make sure a 100' film was enough to cover the end walls as well, I would make my high tunnel 78' long. UVA greenhouse film is very important. I would also consider getting plastic with IR (infrared) additive, which will reduce heat loss during the night. IR plastic can give up to 6 degrees more frost protection. Thanks for watching.
I enjoyed the video . I was wondering where can I buy the materials in order to build my one. I know for sure that I can get some of them at The Home Depot stores but I think It will makes it expensive. Marcos, the PVC, lumber, t-posts, twine, screws and hardware, and plumber's strap should be available at your local hardware store. Home Depot, Lowes, a farm store, or other local supplier will likely be the best source for most of the materials. That leaves the cross connectors, wiggle wire/track and the 18" stakes (I build the stakes myself). I purchase my wiggle wire and cross connectors from Farmtek.com, but you may be able to google them and find a cheaper source. To make the stakes I cut 3/8" or 1/2" rebar into 18" lengths and weld a washer or chainlink onto it for tying. I did see stakes like these available at a store in Yuma, Arizona that caters to retirees with their motorhome lifestyle. So you may be able to find them if you don't have a welder. Thanks Ron! Awesome content, giving me the confidence to attempt DIY. You used PVC which is light reactant, could I also use electrical conduit which has more UV protection? What are your thoughts on this?
Someone else also pointed out that plastic electrical conduit does not break down in the light. If it has the same rigidity as PVC and you can get the fittings then it should work fine. I'll need to try it out when I run out of PVC. Thanks for watching.

The average April wind speed in the area where I developed this design is 40 m/h, with gusts up to 70 m/h (which is about 65 - 112 k/h). The only time I had trouble was when I had only one side up for ventilation and the wind came from an unexpected direction, causing a ballooning effect. I don't know what your snowfall might be, but if you plan to use this design during possible snowfall be sure to brace it from inside so you don't get a collapse. Thanks for watching.
I have heard a lot of talk online about PVC pipe offgass causing the greenhouse film to deteriorate before its time where the plastic touches the pipe. Have you had any issues with this? Thanks for your videos.!
Yes, off-gassing is an issue. I paint my PVC with exterior latex paint to slow the deterioration and my film lasts at least 4 years, if I don’t tear it. I have been told that electrical PVC does not break down with ultraviolet light, but I don’t know if that stops the off-gassing. Thanks for watching.

Sometimes local farms stores have the flexibility to order the size you need. There are several online suppliers who have various-sized films. It shouldn't be too hard to find your size. The challenge can be how much you have to purchase. One supplier would not ship less than three rolls. Thanks for watching.
