I had a very limited catalogue when I used my local library card. My niece moved to Los Angeles, let me use her card, and it's like a whole new experience. There's more variety, twice as many credits, and I can use it in a few places. It really depends on your library system. The only drawback is you can't use it on a Kindle but I have a tablet that I do use it on. Plus, you can read graphic novels in color on a tablet. I think it's worth checking out if you haven't tried the app.
One of the main Hoopla drawbacks for me is that ebooks must be read using the Hoopla app so you are unable to read on a Kindle. Also a few years ago my Library (not a small library either - Boston Public Library) dropped the audiobooks option instead relying on Libby for audiobooks. Another annoying thing with Hoopla is that each episode of a TV show also counts towards your borrows so you can burn through your monthly borrows fairly quick. As you said the catalog is rather limited but free (with tax payer dollars!) and you are limited to using the Hoopla app. Hoopla also has Bonus Borrows that don't count towards your borrows limit. I rely primarily on Libby and the library extension app with goodreads and Amazon now a days. Thanks for the video and keeping us informed about all the options out there!
I made the hard decision to get a Boox Leaf 2 and giving my Paperwhite to a friend just so I can read on Hoopla with an eink screen and a few other reading apps. So far it's decent. I may end up getting a basic kindle when they go on sale again for a second device.
Except Libby sucks because every book on there I want tells me I’m not available to get. And then hoopla wants me to stay up past midnight 1201, 1202 just to check out a book so please tell me there’s something easier to do than getting in my car and driving up to the library to see if they got what I need. Can you read the frustration because I can surely feel it
9:09 am. I just signed on to Hoopla. I found an Audiobook or two i am interested in listening to. I went back in to find it and borrow it - and now I can’t see them. What do I do now. I took a screen shot of the screen when I originally saw the book I wanted. Can you help !?!? Thank you.
What audio book Players play nicely with Hoopla and LIbby. I can use my phone but are there other choices to listen to audio books using Hoopla and Libby?? I have a Kobo Clara B&W but it does not do audio books and the new color ones from Kobo only do Kobo downloaded audio books.... there must be some non-proprietary player to listen to audio books downloaded from Libby and Hoopla!
I don’t think I’ll get hoopla. I have enough books coming in from my regular libraries. Btw, got my card renewed without showing ID mainly because I think the librarian wanted to get rid of the confused old person who was fumbling through the wallet looking for ID. I just had to rhyme off address and phone number and she renewed it. Hope you are ok. Haven’t seen any videos from you the past week. Not that you owe us anything; we just get a bit concerned and start wondering if you’re all right.
