This video features the historic maiden flight of the "HF-18," built by the University of Virginia's Hoos Flying club! A tremendous amount of effort was put into building this aircraft, and all of the team members' time and dedication came together to finally get her off the ground on this special day! Modifications were made following the first flight, leading to a smoother second flight later the same day. Huge thanks to everyone involved, and congratulations to Hoos Flying on their victory!!
This aircraft is designed to compete in the 2018 SAE Aero Design competition in Lakeland, FL. Some of the SAE requirements include a wingspan limit of 144 inches (12 feet), a motor limited to 1000 watts, and a maximum gross weight of 55 pounds.
