Mel brooks really is a treasure to comedy and film! The day he passes away will be one of the saddest days, but he’ll be with Anne again making heaven filled with laughter
I used to play a sound recording of this, from the movie - LOUD - to wake up my kids in the mornings, when we had a lot of work to do. Effective! And brilliant. Mel is on my bucket list of wonderful humans I really want to meet- before I, or they, die.
The Twelve Chairs is my favorite Brooks movie. I’m possibly biased by being part Slavic. 😁. This song, I was assured by my Mother and Nana, is very, very Slavic . 😁
i understand why they say it but i cant think that way. i am in love with the quote but other people somehow get a negative idea. its their fault, not ours.
Hope For The Best (Expect The Worst) Mel Brooks Lyrics Hope For The Best (Expect The Worst) Lyrics Hope for the best, expect the worst Some drink champagne, some die of thirst No way of knowing which way it's going Hope for the best, expect the worst! Hope for the best, expect the worst The world's a stage, we're unrehearsed Some reach the top, friends, while others drop, friends Hope for the best, expect the worst! I knew a man who saved a fortune that was splendid Then he died the day he planned to go and spend it Shouting "Live while you're alive! No one will survive!" Life is sorrow-here today and gone tomorrow Live while you're alive, no one will survive-there's no guarantee Hope for the best, expect the worst You could be Tolstoy or Fannie Hurst So take your chances; there are no answers Hope for the best expect the worst! Very nice video and I am a Brooks fan, but he did not really write this song. What he did write were the lyrics. The song is actually Brahms Hungarian Dance #4.
I also went digging for this melody, kind of suspecting Mel had borrowed it;; and also found Brahms, years ago. Brahms of course - did "quote" a well known folk melody. As is the usual way. We need to ask Mel; while we can- did he knowingly steal from Brahms? Had he heard a gypsy fiddler playing to original? Or- as often happens, kind of think the melody just came to him? I'd love to know!
Nothing is original friend. We stand on shoulders of Giants. Take inspiration and make it your own. Btw, I learned from Issac Newton, which he learned from Barnard of Chartres, which he properly take from someone else. Point is who give a damn. Go out and live. Take inspiration and thankful for those who make it popular enough for you to even look that Hungarian Dance up. Hey Im very thankful for Mel.
@@philiprutter1 He arranged but didn't write the melody, as a piano duet for 2 hands. The orchestration was done c. 1890 by Paul Juon, a Swiss-born Russian composer, who died in 1940.
Silly comment. I like Mel too, but he wasn't inspired by someone else, the thing was simply appropriated and I assume many would like to know where the melody actually came from. It was interesting to me to learn this, and I'm passing it along.
