Thanks for showing and explaining the hub. I‘ve learned some more about the function of the engagement points…now i‘d like to find out by myself how they run in an internal gearhub such as sachs/sram or shimano nexus which are my prefered ones. Toodle pip👋🏻🙂
Hi dave . Nice piece of kit from hope . My cube stereo 160 hpc is dripping with hope products as they are well made and from England 🏴 keep up the good work mate 🤘🤘
Built my own wheel set based on Pro4s, am happy with their durability and low drag, and have had no issues. Been waiting for ages for this update; higher engagement and good-looking hub both tick the boxes for me. IMO, they are much better looking than I9 1/1 which are about the same price range. Next wheel build will be on standard Pro5s. Thanks for the review.
Great review... I have a ten year old Hope Pro 3 or 4 hubs, and they are absolutely bombproof. However I've got the hump with Hope since they refused to sell me a pair of straight pull rim brake road hubs, so I just got the hump and they lost me forever as a customer... DT Swiss 350 hubs are excellent..
Awesome video, Ive just had a pro 4 fail on me this weekend, its attached to an Orange Ebike, so far this bike inside 6 months as had new EP8 motor, new cassette, new rear mech and new chain. the bike was bought in Oct 2022, these Ebikes chew through parts.
Interested. Will be buying a UK brand hardtail probably and think it would be interesting to fit it with UK components. I do love my Onyx hubs on one of my bikes though.
Huge fan of Hope...Mountain Bike has Hope Mono Mini brakes,Hope Pro2 hubs,Hope Headset and BB...all bombproof... Also Pro4 hubs on Gravel Bike.... they do require attention from time to time,so being a mechanic helps.
Can you just change the pro 5 freehub to the ebike specific freehub on the pro 5 or are there more parts in the hub that are ebike specific? Just curious.
I'm still running the stock Bontrager HG hub on my 2019 Powerfly 7 (because I can't get any other hub/rim to fit it) 20,000+ kms I have replaced the body 3 times and have run 6 pawls and am currently running 3 pawls. I can't seem to notice any difference between the 3 and 6. Would love to try the Hope 5 but, it will have to await my next eMTB... 👍
Have you ever reviewed the Single Speed trials hubs and compared the Pro 4 to Pro 5? I’m just curious if they made any changes and increased the hub body flange width
The introduction of the new style seal makes drag much less on the new 5 even with 6 pawls, also the benefits especially on ebikes with six pawls, amazing
Good Day. What spoke length/nipples did you use for the Hope pro 5/DT Swiss EX511 build. Thank You! Cant seem to find proper hub spec dimensions anywhere.
Hello there it’s the new 5 non ebike and the ebike version much of a difference I’ve noticed they only sale 35w version only non ebike and 30w ebike version complete wheels find a bit better if they should sale 35w with ebike version just wonder if I can just buy non ebike version as it’s cheaper option thanks in advance your videos are top notch
Hi, yes there is a big difference, if you are wanting a new rear wheel on ebike then the only version you should be using is the ebike version, we could always build you a custom wheel?
So I’ve managed to destroy 3 free hubs on the pro 5. Turns out that those lightweight springs that reduce drag aren’t up to it if you’re a certain type of rider. They’re not strong enough to engage the pawls when you’re hauling ass and all sorts of unfriendly noises emanate from your rear hub. It’s become such an issue hope have produced stronger springs that you can fit if you’re suffering from being too bad ass for the pro 5. I’ve got them in and have no issues now. Just a heads up.
Do the ebike and Stand hub use the same hub shell and ratchet ring ? is it only the driver (free hub body) that differ? - Can I get a standard one and then just replace the free hub driver with a ebike version ?
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Thanks, I mean the hope pro5 vs hope pro5 ebike version... is the drive the only different (steel vs Alloy / 52poe vs 108 poe ?)
Hi Kris, we have taken it down, the maintenance of the back end was high but the return of sales were too low. people seem to want to talk and get advice before buying.
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic thanks! I live in a tropical country where it rains a lot. So I was a bit hesistant to buy a product that has its bearing exposed. It's only a matter of time for the grime and dirt to go in 😂 i will try this one though
@@rhythm618 not £200 they might be competitive price wise, but it’s still a lot of money for a bit of bling, I’ve gone across 4 continents 50+ countries on Deore Lx, needed two rebuilds, one of which I did at a hotel I was staying at after getting the bearings from a hardware store, can’t see how a £200 hub would be any better tbh or easier to get parts for in Tajikistan or Peru
Does it use the same axle as the Pro 4? Just wondering if my Pro 4 bearing support tools will work when it comes time to service the bearings. This is a great upgrade, especially for us bigger guys.....and will someone PLEASE make a steel microspline?
