Hey everyone if you own a GM vehicle like I do and it didn’t come with a FACTORY installed brake controller don’t waste your money buying an OEM one on EBAY like I did it WILL NOT WORK not even the dealer can help you. Aftermarket is the way to go!
M105 Camper really? I heard someone had the dealership put an oem one in for them mine doesn’t have one and I really need it for the weight I pull. ( why would a 3/4 ton not have one in 2015 come on Chevy )
Carl Fox Hey man thanks for watching the video! You could be right because a technician at my local Chevy dealer did tell me a rumor about some after market shops that can hack into the truck’s computer (like when a diesel delete is done) but if your truck has to be serviced at a dealer you’re outta luck because everything in the computer will be wiped out. So I’m not exactly sure what is true but what I was told regarding my 2018 truck was that if it doesn’t already come equipped from the factory the dealer cannot install it. So at some point I got fed up with wasting so much gas and doing all that leg work...so found it simpler to just do it myself lol! Hope I was able to shed some light on this Chevy BS! Keep me posted on how it works out for you man...good luck!
Carl Fox Hey Carl! Absolutely no worries man...not a bother at all!! Thanks so much for subscribing...truly appreciated! The OEM brake controller plugs directly into the truck so it will display on the dashboard and infotainment system whereas the aftermarket one is not compatible and therefore will not be displayed. Hence it being necessary to be plugged into the auxiliary wires underneath the dashboard otherwise it will have to be wired directly into the fuse box...which all depends on the year, make/model of the truck. The OEM brake controller will include the settings conveniently displayed on the infotainment system for perfect adjustability, memory settings, etc...all of which need to be factory installed within the computer in order to work with all of the trucks censors ie suspension. With the aftermarket one there is barely a two inch screen with minimal features, as can be seen in the video. Hope this clarifies, if not, please feel free to ask more questions!
Did you somehow remove the oem brake controller from your Trim piece or how did you get your trim piece without it? Also does the gm supplied pigtail work with this or do I need to buy another harness as well?
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching! The brake controller can be separated from the trim piece with a thin flat head screwdriver. In my case, yes, it was simply plug and play...the GM pigtail worked without any issues. Hope this is helpful...keep us posted! Stay safe and healthy!
Hi Anthony and thanks for watching! All of the original wiring is still in place but not functional as two things must happen in order for the OEM brake controller to work. First, it needs to be activated on the trucks computer and secondly, the truck would need to have the bigger infotainment system. That is what would allow all of the brake controller information to be displayed and I was told that could only be done at the factory. Hope this covers your question and is helpful info!
Luis Gaytan Hey man! Thanks so much for watching! So far, I have not had a problem with this glue melting. I use this quite often at work being that it is a contractor grade glue not an art and craft glue.
