This is very late rich and idk if u’ll ever see it but I kind of want to try and answer your question. It’s hard to understand addiction because it’s irrational, you will make these massive logical leaps to justify satisfying it. I’ve never done anything crazy, the only drug I’ve done is marijuana. But it’s a difficult substance for me to let go of. Most addictions begin young because consequences often will not exist when you’re young. Young people make mistakes, right? You’re told a bunch of stuff is bad and wrong all your life and sometimes you do shit you know is wrong, esp when friends are involved. And sometimes you get caught, sometimes you get away... but if that mistake was taking a hit of meth or heroin or whatever then so many times they will carry that for life, because it feels awesome and you’re not at a point where you’re assessing the consequences, you don’t even care anymore. And it’s so hard to let go of, so easy to say “no I can take this tv because I will buy mom a new one when I get paid” and then you get paid and you have to buy more and will repay her next check now, all the while you’re doing everything you can to fund your habit until you can get paid and do it again. You feel bad, when you’re high, but then you get sober again and your mind progressively prioritizes getting high again over other, much more important things, because your brain has fundamentally changed to believe that this is what it needs. I have never done anything other than weed, again, but I could see how the places I’ve gone to justify the cost (60 a week) I could see how if it were fundamentally addicting, if I were more desperate and it were more expensive, I can see how my thoughts might progress to a point where I could justify anything - selling my ps4, maybe pawning a tv because “we’re only using one right now right??”. It’s scary as shit, and I’ll never do another drug, but I shouldn’t even do this one. Not because it’s bad, I think I have an addictive personality. Anyways idk if that Speech helps anybody understand more, everything you say is true but your mind just won’t work that way anymore, abstaining from your addiction is your rational mind actively and constantly telling your subconscious and instinctive mind all the things you have said and more, you can’t afford it, we need food for the kids, we need the vacation money, whatever that person is going through. And it’s just so easy to have a bad day and your defense cracks just s little, “fuck, my grandma died, I can’t handle it, just one time, just this once more” and it starts all over again. I really respect anyone who manages that, maybe I’m just more predisposed to it than most but If I had it like they do I think I’d lose my apartment, my job. I’m fortunate in that the main side effect of marijuana is a lighter wallet, but in the past I have stolen for it. It’s a slippery ass slope, man, one you constantly have to climb to get anywhere

I lost 3 friends to drugs shit is sad I don't see a point in doing them at all I agree with you 100% on the subject but now look at the kids today their popping pills at young ages just the other day my friend took her 10 year old to the hospital over an overdose it's really sad how easy they are to get
