Playing Horizon Forbidden West on the Asus ROG Ally. Loving how well this game plays on the Ally - Could tweak the settings to drop the quality a little and up the FPS if that is your preference at 1080p and 900p.
I am running VRAM set to Auto (I believe it can crash if you have it set to other values), and I have had the game crash when I've loaded in and then go to a higher graphic preset. Also right at the end of the video the game crashes due to lack of memory on the graphics, but that's the first time I've seen it while playing

Loving the Ally more and more. Been playing Starfield, Outer worlds, Cyberpunk 2077 and they’re all a great experience.

I am as well, seriously considering upgrading to hall effect joysticks on it but don't want to break it, so hoping the ally2 has hall effect sticks (and 32g ram :) )

@@HandheldGamingFan Legit question, isn't 32g of ram overkill for gaming? 16g seems to be the sweet spot no?

I also am loving the Rog Ally. I was half way across the country was able to play my PS5 remotely as well from it. Have so many options of what to play.

@ONealskey7 in a desktop pc you have 16gb of ram and the graphic card has anything from 4gb to 16gb ram. You have 4 banks of ram which can be configured in various ways like 24gb 32gb or 64gb. In these handheld pcs you have 16gb in total , and anything allocated to the graphics card is taken away from that 16gb. More demanding games may require 16g excluding video memory (avatar frontiers of Pandora is one example). I would be happy for 24gb on a handheld but unsure if it can be configured in that way with the memory chips soldered on to the board, hence why I said 32gb

Thank you for these settings. Much better than doing 720 with fsr. Make sure you set gpu to auto or the game will crash. Normally I do 6gb. So it's a pain. but for the the turbo settings plugged in these first settings are amazing.

I'm going to try out amd fluid motion frames on this game next, I'm on the latest amd drivers so it's just a case of turning it on. So long as the input lag isn't too bad it should make this even better although the higher the frame rate it gas to begin with the better, so 30 to 37 fps might not be enough

Try setting your vram to auto if you haven't already

Also forgot to mention, I'm running thr latest amd drivers not the asus ones. So firstly try setting vram to auto, then if that doesn't work and you are confident updating drivers then update the drivers. Otherwise it might be a case of waiting for asus to provide a driver update

Is this the regular Z1 or the Z1 extreme?
@HandheldGamingFan

Z1 extreme. I'll make it clear in future videos which model it is

As far as I understand the z1 is more for smaller, older, or Indi games or emulators, and the extreme seems to be for modern games. Info for peeps wondering which one to get.

you do know that running this game in 1080p with FSR quality means the game is running at 720p?
@HandheldGamingFan
@HandheldGamingFan 3 месяца назад
It's starting with 720p and upscaling to 1080p with a bit of algorithmic determining trying to fill in pixels rather than just an integer type thing, with a bit of sharpening thrown in. So it should look a bit better than 720p native right? Or are you saying it's indistinguishable from 720p?
@Bodonism
@Bodonism 3 месяца назад
@@HandheldGamingFan its slightly better than 720p for sure but definitely look worse than 1080p native.. which imo you should try 1080p native next time for benchmark sake regardless of performance
@HandheldGamingFan
@HandheldGamingFan 3 месяца назад
@Bodonism ah right, thanks, makes sense. Running 1080p native was sitting at about 21 fps. Not really playable sadly.

@@HandheldGamingFan yeh but at least we can see how it performs.. hope you benchmark 1080p native next time

@@Bodonism In a realistic scenario, we're going to be using FSR. When I get an Ally X, I plan on playing at lowest settings on FSR balanced in 1080p, then setting a 45fps cap and using Lossless Scaling 2x frame gen to 90fps. Also on 18w. From most of these benchmarks, I just want to know if that's possible - consistent 45FPS that never dips, so I can FG it to 90. I also want to do it on battery without draining it obsurdly fast.
