30 cinematic 60 fluidity. Swapping from 60 to 30 immediately looks slo mo. It takes time for your eyes to adjust. Same with motion blur.

If Horizon FW were a painting or still picture I would absolutely be in favor of resolution mode. However this is a videogame where motion and precision are important and 60fps to me is a way more beneficial feature than a higher pixel count. What good is higher resolution when you immediately lose clarity once you start moving? I choose performance mode without hesitation! The smoother motion is just way more pleasing to my eyes!

Nice video 👍. What i been doing is playing the game at performance mode and then switching to fidelity mode on cutscenes. It's so quick to change the settings that it doesn't bother me to switch back and forth as needed. I can notice a slight sharpness difference in the modes but for battles 60fps is a must. But 30 is no problem for trying to take in some of the scenery moments because these graphics are seriously insane.

Dumb question, but when you guys change between resolution and Performance mode in game, do you also change the settings on your ps5? If you play on resolution in the game, do you also set it to resolution on the ps5 settings? And the other way around?

Only on res mode. On performance mode there's at least 5 better looking games on ps5 alone. Demon's Souls and Ratchet's performance modes look better for example. Also, death stranding looks better than perf mode but not res mode.

Red Dead 2 easily looks better than this. I'm still enjoying HFW since it's more about the gameplay than graphics for me but there are still other games that look better imo.

I wonder if there is any differences in lighting and rendering. Obviously render resolution, resolution of volemetric clouds, geometry LODs and textures have lower settings in the performance mode, but I can't really see much difference in lighting, such as reflection, AO, GI, shadows etc...

After playing certain games in 60fps, 30 kind of feels a little choppy to me. I don't know whether I see the difference or is it just in my head 🤔 But which ever mode I play I love how the game looks absolutely beautiful in both of them !

It's a huge difference, it is choppy. 30fps is that last playable fps before it gets into stuttering zone, anything below 30fps is a noticeable stutter. Remember the infamous blighttown in Dark Souls where the game would dip below 30fps, it was terrible. And 30fps on a PS5 for a big major release is terrible as well, just start releasing games in PC, at least with 3090 and 3080 you are guaranteed 60fps and at minimum above 30

30fps is terrible for a major release on a brand new PS5, either the game is not optimized or PS5 is already behind being only a year out and that means other graphically heavy releases like God of War where you want a smooth 60fps will be not be in true 4k to get 60. Even in this game with the type of combat you need high frame rate to play effectively. At the very least should have gave us native 2k at 60 not this 1800p bullcrap Already pre ordered Elden Ring on PC, to get that smooth 60fps at 4k.

Im a 60 fps or a big no type of guy but for this game i am actually considering playing on resolution...turning motion blur off is a must tho. On resolution mode it looks like a ps5 game. I play close to my tv thats why i can see crazy differences on both modes.

I Play on a 40" 4k TV and I have to say: Resolution Mode is the way. Sure, in Performance Mode everything is smoother but it also Looks blurry... 30 FPS doesn't look bad, I enjoy the Gameplay and the Quality

Agreed, I also switched to resolution mode, 30fps is fine as long as it's solid, and turning motion blur to medium makes the movement looks smoother.

Yes I agree too! Resolution mode is the way to go!! Performance is best suited for FPS games, and campaign games are best suited for resolution mode

So let me ask a dumb question by using performance mode is it dropped to 1080 or the update finally got 4k and 60fps to run together smh cmon Sony series x don’t have this problem we can get 4k 120 out the gate I have ps5 been playing on resolution mode and switched over to performance feels smooth grass looks and moves more realistic but it seems off just a little and this is on a 8k tv that’s why I’m asking is it dropped to 1080 60 or upgrades to 4k 60 in performance mode

Bro i want your help/suggestion into building a PC. I want a 3060Ti System but my budget is only 90K-95K(inclusive of monitor, mouse etc.) . So i had enquired to RPTech about the 3060Ti, and i will probably be waiting for their mail. And i want PC like by 3rd week of March. So should i built a PC with 5600G APU and then later combine it with the 3060Ti(if i get it late this year). or should i just try some other things. My priority is to play almost all titles (AAA, and old, and future AAA titles, e-sports games ) at Medium settings @ 1080p. please do suggest. thanks. love your channel.

One of the few games I prefer Resolution over performance the visual difference on a big tv screen is pretty big. It was hard to get used to 30fps but after a few hours it wasn’t a problem for me.

No way, even if you pay me to play at 30 I won't do it. Common. Why would you want to "get used to" 30 fps...Yes I agree when I stand still I see some farther away objects are sharper in resolution mode, but as soon as I start running in 30 fps and move the camera around its as if you try to play graphics demanding game on pc with a built in gpu in 4K, its super choppy and not smooth, like the game is broken...

I'm glad you finally showed actual gameplay at the end. After playing in performance mode, it's so jarring to go back to resolution mode. You can really notice the fps drop. Side thought: I thought the PS5 could do 4k120. Is this game just too damn beautiful to render at that speed? (Or even 4k60?)

Not all games will run 4K 120. I think it can output a 4K 120 signal, but it doesn't mean it can render graphically at 4k 120

So i have a sony 4k x90h tv, with 120htz, but i cant choose between the resolution mode or the performance mode, because both look so beautiful, ok in resolution mode the camera is somewhat blurring when its turning around fast but in performance mode , it looks alot smoother , so whitch one is better for my tv ,

Exactly, during combat 30fps ruins the whole flow, it’s very tough to aim due to choppiness and hence you take on a lot of damage before managing to deal even a single blow…especially on hard difficulty

That’s a great idea. I will say it’s great that you can change modes at any time. Just okay miles morales and if you switch it reloads the last checkpoint. So I like how you can switch anytime even during a cutscene with horizon. But ya an auto mode would be great!

Really wish this had a 40 FPS mode like Ratchet and Clank does for 120 Hz TV's. Then there's literally no debate. That game is SO MUCH BETTER in 40 fps mode. It retains the massive benefits of fidelity mode, while barely losing any smoothness or input response vs 60 fps mode. It's odd but frametime and lag wise, 40 fps is half way in between 30 and 60 fps (idk how the math works that way but it does) so while 10 fps may not seem like a lot, it truly is when you get to actually experience it in a proper way It only would help players who have a 120 Hz TV like me but for us, it's by far the best option.

@@PersianGamer36 for tvs with 120 refresh rate it’s more like 45fps and input lag is more like 60fps. Google frame time to get a better understanding. Ratchet and clank plays in fidelity 4k mode at basically 45fps. It’s really nice.

What do you mean for some reason? Clearly the difference is double the frame rate, because the graphics fidelity takes a big hit with that garbage checkboarding.

@@godbelow I say for some reason because 1) I don't know what checkerboarding is. And 2) 30 fps is still a good amount of frames per second. There's always that guy that has to be an ass and we have a winner..

@@know1827 of course, the differences are indeed vast. 30fps on resolution mode for HFW feels too choppy, it can make combat a hassle to play through tbh. I went back and played ratchet and clank rift apart on 30fps and it doesn't feel anywhere as choppy or slow as HFW. I don't if that's just me that notices that

I'm going performance, for me when i tried in in resolution mode when I turned it seemed blurry and the movement, especially climbing small ledges seemed a little jerky. It looks great still in performance and is an infinitely smoother experience.

Try Gamemode if you have it on your TV and turn Motion Blur to low. Im usually 60 all day and this isn't too bad and the jump in Fidelity is insane.

But it doesn't look great in performance mode. It looks unpolished. In res mode it looks unbelievable. Plus, it's obvious you didn't even try playing for more than 5 minutes. You get used to 30 fps in no time and this game seriously doesn't need 60 fps. It's not worth losing out on seeing the best looking game ever made.

I honestly think that with all the developing for both consoles is what’s holding it back from running better. Having to focus on both at the same time and still make them look good but runnable is probably weird and taking that full advantage of a more powerful consol is a huge difference.

It affects the gameplay more than anything. The cpu on ps4 is the biggest limitation. I don't think the visuals would look better oh ps5 but the gameplay certainly would be. It could have more destructible and interactive environments

The overall Fidelity between the two is so close, that you have to go with 60fps. 60fps is by far the biggest game-changer compared to 30 FPS.

Yea but you don't notice the blur sometimes on 60fps? When you aim and then go back to normal view everything looks blurry as hell, it's like there some image reconstruction trying to catch up. That's feels weird and annoying as hell tho.

Resolution mode was total unplayable for me. It feels like it is running at 15-20 FPS when moving the camera around on my OLED from 2020. Had to play with performance mode.

If this was a postcard, quality mode would be an option. As it isn't, the silky smoothness of 60 FPS makes all the difference whenever anything is in motion. Intense battles feels like a stroboscope slideshow in quality. It sucks that we have to choose though. The PS5 Pro can't come fast enough.

Nah. you don't know what you're talking about. Even digital foundry is recommending resolution mode and they're the biggest fanboys of high framerates. This just isn't a game that needs 60 fps and the only way it truly looks like a PS5 game is on resolution mode. Using performance mode is a really dumb sacrifice. Same with guardians of the galaxy on PS5 For Dying Light 2 on the other hand, despite it looking terrible on performance mode, you still have to use it because that is the type of game that needs it. Same with DOOM Eternal and 120 FPS mode. If you have a 120 Hz TV, you gotta play in 120 mode. Not all games need the higher framerate and only an ignorant clown would think otherwise. This game being a perfect example of a game that doesn't need 60

I couldn’t care less what DF thinks, I will never go back to 30 FPS for a game with intense combat. The notion that this does not need a high framerate is absolutely laughable. Solid gameplay beats stuttering beauty any day of the week.

I play it on resolution on my oled c7, and to be fair, I had a headache from those slow movements. Switched to performance and its a lot easier on the eye. Don't know if my TV shoul do better, but 60fps for me

Yep. Have c1 myself. Same problem. All OLEDs from LG at least have this problem with moving slowly slide ways scenes even in movies. Getting sick (literally)

Ahh, I thought I was going to play performance, but this just made my decision harder. The differences are definitely noticeable when you zoom in. The cutscenes look better in Resolution, but performance seems to be more appropriate for the actual gameplay..

This is how I'm playing. It's very fast to change resolution at least. I hate 30 fps. But this is the first game that the difference is very noticeable.

@@ygordreyer I’m about 4 hours in, and I’m actually sticking with performance for now. Resolution is beautiful, but as I suspected, the combat feels noticeably better (to me) in performance. Game honestly still looks gorgeous on my 4K TV

Watching this, along with some simple comparison tests I've done myself, I feel like I'm searching for the differences which are pretty minor in most cases. Not worth the 30 FPS hit in my opinion.

The main thing that makes this games graphics so special is the absurd level of detail. RU-vid can't show detail. RU-vid's compression is so bad it masks so much detail EVEN at 4k Resolution mode looks better than performance by a mile. It's literally like comparing PS4 Pro vs PS5. Res mode looks like a current gen PS5 game, performance looks like a PS4 Pro game at 60 fps. Actually, even Horizon Zero Dawn on PS5 looks a lot sharper and more polished

@@artvas9611 well actually 120fps is good for person shooters. 60fps should just been the standard to every game. I played horizon zero dawn on PC at 100fps I have to say I much enjoyed it to the 60fps on the ps5 for the same game you definatlly notice the difference in boss battles.

As i understood from Digital Foundery the only difercence in beteween these two modes is the reslolution. Both modes have ultra presets. Im also thinkin in whiche mode to play but i belive ill go for performanse.

They can't fix it. Even resolution mode doesn't have a perfect AA method but the performance mode is far worse because the resolution is barely above 1080p. Res mode is native 4k Sorry but you're a fool if you're picking performance mode in a game that doesn't need 60 fps whatsoever LOL it looks miles better on res mode

Had to go resolution mode as I play on a 4k monitor. Immediately noticed a difference in the textures in performance mode and they looked blurry when I was playing. If this was was a multiplayer game, i’d understand going performance mode but its not.

I am so torn between those two modes. 30fps feels just too choppy, but 60fps is a big sacrifice in fidelity. I wished they would add a third mode as they added later in Ratchet and Clank, which keeps most of the fidelity at 40fps (only on hdmi 2.1). This was the perfect combination for me.

why HDMI 2.1? HDMI 2.1 supports up to 4K @ 120 Hz. For 4K @ 60 Hz (which is needed for 40 fps lock) you will be fine with HDMI 2.0

trying it at 30fps was pretty bad for me. I don't know if I can get used to it even though I used to play ps3 at 30 fps. Years of pC gaming made it unbearable. Maybe when ps5 support VRR it will be better.

Its a shame resolution mode cant run on 60ps. isnt a ps5 supposed to run 60ps at that high quality? plus, when playing in performance mode, i cant help but notice pixelation in things like the blight fumes, grass , character outfits and a few other textures. torn between the two

The 30 frames less aren't worth it in my opinion. I got a 50 " screen and compared extensively but besides some pop ups there isn't a reason to not use performance mode. The 60 frames are soo smooth.

Definitely performance mode. That few extra shadows and details doesn’t worth the sacrifice. Once you play a game in 60fps or 120 fps,30 simply won’t cut it anymore. This game looks stunning in performance mode

The lighting and reflections are nice in resolution mode, but resolution mode doesn’t look significantly better than performance mode. They almost look the same. But performance mode plays SIGNIFICANTLY better than resolution mode. Resolution mode claims to be 30fps but I swear it frequently dips to 20. I have played a lot of 30fps games and they’ve never felt choppy or stuttery to me, but this game on resolution mode feels that way.

in this game specifically yes! For the first time in this new generation of consoles I will choose to play prioritizing resolution instead of performance, I play on a Lg Oled CX and the difference between resolution and performance mode is big in this game!!!!

Therefore 60fps is always my go to but this game you can definitely see the difference. I turn motion on as well, and there’s jidder in fidelity mode but I’m ok with that because it feels like I’m playing 60fps. It helps to have motion blur off too.

@@carlosrezende5673 yes there is, you have to find the sweet spot where it feels smoother. I have a Sony Bravia and have motion on Medium. It turns the processor on so the input lag goes up. When playing multiplayer is switch to game mode and it turns it off. But it’s all preference and what is comfortable for you.

60 is always better than 30 even if 30 is higher resolution. This is more of a reaon I wish ps5 supported 1440p. Have the balance between resolution and framerate. Way easier to hit 60+ fps at 1440p. And more a side note but I lnow it wont happen anytime for consoles in immediate future but I wish consoles supported ultrawide lol
