@Junaid stormbird yes... glinthawk tho? It’s like one of the weakest machines in the whole game tho it would still have been nice to have a different option I suppose.
@@fdk12 no you can’t, sorry I was replying to junaid saying he wished we could mount a stormbird and glinthawk. And I was agreeing with mounting a stormbird but not a glinthawk that’s all. It’s unlikely we would be able to ever mount a stormbird even in dlc sadly.

I love that the music synchs up when it charges up its plasma. Really adds to the tension and it also acts as an indicator to the player when it gets fully charged.
What I find interesting is that most people don't realize you can I-frame the Plasma explosion effect. If you time a dodge or slide right, you can be immune to the Plasma detonation.
I do believe the soundtrack name is "Built to Kill" I think more Apexes have this soundtrack to them too but yes, it was clearly set for the Slaughterspine. The timing with is charging is perfect and terrifying...

I even love the name of this machine. I came across my first one randomly while exploring, had a "tf is that" moment, it one hit nearly all my health and I noped out of there
@@ThePeaceofWildThings I remember standing there thinking the same thing and got jumped on. Needless to say it killed me the first time and I haven't went back yet lol
First time I saw it was doing one of the missions to go to the mine on the island and I was like “oh, a thunder jaw?!? EASY!” And then it was much bigger and killed me almost instantly and destroyed walls and stuff and I was like WHAT IS THIS THINGGGGG!!?????” I had to run like a pussy and hide underwater.
I was wandering around and saw "Unknown Slaughterspine Site" and went to check it out. I was curious as to what it was, but "Mecha Godzilla" wasn't my first guess. I promptly turned tail and noped out of there.
The Slaughterspine feels like the true evoloution of the thunderjaw. The Thunderjaw could easily be taken out by shooting off its weapons, crippling its moveset and dealing heavy damage. But with the slaughterspine, there's barely anything. Plus; purple and black look great together. Edit: And The Slaughterspine is one of two legendary machine strike pieces, and I love machine strike. Edit two: Electric Boogaloo: I really don't care if it's easy for you or not. I was just trying to complement my favourite machine.
That was my first thought too lol. The machine's name already made me think "oh damn this is going to be strong", and then I actually saw it (I was behind some trees when I scanned it). Your description of "the true evolution of the thunderjaw" has to be the best description for the looks and combat for the machine
@@skrunklyOwO I know it's not _related_ to the thunderjaw by dinosaur standards, but it's definitely meant to be an upgraded thunderjaw boss in the game
Out in the open I actually prefer the Slaughterspine. The Thunderjaw is very aggressive and will ruin your day if you can't take the weapons down quickly.
The best thing about it is that the Slaughterspine was the last machine from the OG concept art of Horizon to be added, all machines from the concept art were in HZD but this one wasn’t so it was great to see it in the sequel
@@Jason-..- alternate explaination: you're bad at the game lol. I beat the game on hard on my 1st playthrough and I've gotten the games platinum trophy. Considering that only 1.6% of players have it and you're struggling with a apex slaughterspine, I highly doubt that you have that trophy too.
@@kasaitenma5546 i played on VERY hard on my 1st playthrough and i also have the platinum. And i had 400 hours in zero dawn. I seriously think Guerilla is one of the most creative game studios ever. This is such an amazing design for a machine. I am also biased, my favorite dinosaur was the Spinosaurus. I hope in the future, Guerilla adds the ability to ride more machines. To ride a dreadwing (the big bat) or one of these most likely wont happen, but a man can dream!
9.5/10 Dont care to much for the RPG weapon leveling system felt useless in the beginning, also had to bump the difficulty down from Hard to Normal for Rockbreakers which screwed my Hard playthru.
*gets hit by a machine and is stunned for 3 whole seconds* **finally stands up and gets hit and stunned again immediately for another 3 seconds*** ^repeat.
It's like they put all the deadliest features of a fireclaw together with all the deadliest features of a thunderjaw...then made everything into plasma beams. I'm already worried about having to face such a thing in its normal variant, I don't wanna come within a mile of an Apex.
I just got there, the thunderjaw is level 30 normally, level 48, as an apex, the slaughterspine at normal is level 45, I have not encountered an apex varient
I fought one of these for the first time last night, and it takes a RIDICULOUS amount of damage. Seriously the hardest thing I've fought in the game. I came out it with a hair of health, and almost no ammo and resources left. If I didn't get it in the next few arrows, I was toast..
And I thought the color palette couldn't get too much more pleasing than HZD. Gorgeous. Also, that tail hitbox was very precise, impressive. Can't wait to play this soon
@@crazybabuskaman3923 can't wait to see what the dlcs are like, but it's never too early to start speculating about where horizon 3 will go. Forbidden West was wilder than even the craziest fan theories.
@Clau Clau it isn't confirmed but there is a data point that mentions an area that isn't present in the current game and it would be an awesome name for a DLC.
This machine massively reminds me of Mecha Godzilla! It even has the same charged up plasma charge sound and spits atomic breath at you!! I can defo see where the inspiration for it came from! It’s real cool, but damn it one shot me last night!
The monster hunter influences are obvious, this fight looked like a more involved and dangerous version of a brute wyvern hunt, id honestly love a brute wyvern based on Spinosaurus, its my favourite dinosaur
Holy God! This game is completely crazy, I think it deserves its own movie, without a doubt the Slaughterspine is a very lethal machine, inspired by Spinosaurus himself, my question is, who would win in a fight between the Slaughterspine and the legendary and feared Thunderjaw, I I think that would be one of the most spectacular fights in the world of science fiction video games, and I'm not exaggerating, these 2 giant metal beasts have a lot of weapons and attacks, wow, just imagining that battle I'm freaking out; the Slaughterspine launching his most powerful attack which is that purple plasma beam and the Thunderjaw also launching his most powerful attack which is that orange multiple beam which he shoots out of his mouth (apart from the blue laser machine gun, that also bursts). PS: Other machine fights that would be completely crazy are: Garriraptors vs. Demodelor, Sawtooth and Longlegs. Terramamut or the Triceratops robot vs Behemoth. I wish someone on RU-vid would do all these fights looting the machines, they would make me very happy...XD.
There's a guy that died exactly that. Though it's only on HZD right now since HFW isn't on PC yet. I think the channel is Horizon Arena, HZD Arena.. something like one of those two names.
I didnt play the game yet or have seen any gameplay so when first watched this I thought that you edited the video to put the music, it's so smooth and well done that I didnt even thought it was actually from the game, the soundtrack sounds so awesome.
If u knock off his tail parts, u can use those as weapons. He also have his spine part as weapons u can use. Does very good damage to it. Just in case u didn't know
Did you notice that there's a bug where the thunderjaw, bellowback among others doesn't have the antenna component? it was supposed to be another weak point of the machine, it even appears in the diary but the machine doesn't have
Man, your way is so complicated. The key is frost arrows and explosive spikes. The sequence is 3 frost arrow, activate second stance from hunter tree and spam explosive spikes. My record is only 4 spikes under stance state. 15 seconds and it's done.
This thing is a worthy successor to the Thunderjaw. Not only is it a delight to look at, but it can also fuck you up worse than polio if you aren’t careful, making the process of fighting it absolutely enthralling. You’re basically just screaming “HOLY FUCK” on repeat inside your head while you try to find a way to kill the thing.
OMG the graphics of this game !! I'm playing the first Horizon on PC (absolutely maxxed out) and it doesn't look nowhere as good as this. When Aloy is running she even kicks up some sand. This is amazing attention to detail. Can't wait for this to come to PC.
i panicked dyring one side quest when i had to fight a tremor tusk and a thunderjaw at the same time, i still have no idea how i survived that, i think i got lucky i did some massive damage to the tremor tusk before the thunderjaw noticed and joined the fight
When I first saw a slaughterspine I thought it was going to be the size of a bellowback Then I really saw it shat my pants, and ran in the other direction.
Fun fact about plasma burst, if you time a roll or a slide correctly when it procs you can the damage. Very handy when fighting these guys. Dipping into the water will also purge the plasma effect entirely.
@@milmi-24attackhelicopter4 Are you sure about that ???, I Think You Haven't Played This Game Yet, Slaughterspine Is Really Hard To Beat It Has Plasma Powers That Can Hit You And After Few Seconds It Will Explode In You're Body That Makes A High Damage And Fireclaw Only Have Fire Powers But Slaughterspine Have Plasma Powers
@@razaahmed9241 The fireclaw doesn't even have a weakness to plasma damage so plasma damage really doesn't matter very much and will take ages for the plasma to even built up and take effect and already has one of the highest damage outputs in game without even using its elemental attacks and dishes it out a tad bit faster, the slaughter spine doesn't care about fire damage, so it all comes don't to who can dish out damage and how fast they can do it which is why I think the fireclaw would either win or at least heavily damage the slaughter spine. But no one has pitted them up against each other yet.
You know, the Slaughterspine reminds me of the Berserk Fury from Zoids New Century! A robotic, theropod with the ability to shoot lasers from its mouth! Wonder if the game designers took some inspiration from that series.
This was cool cause it feels so cinematic. Makes me feel almost bad for how I always just find some high ground just out of reach and snipe them with the long distance bow.
I killed this thing on hard in like 30 seconds without taking damage, however it should be worth mentioning that I was already level 50 with a rare rated spike thrower that I bought in the lowlands - has it fully upgraded 4 times, and had coils enhancing explosive damage by 22%, Tear by 15%, and Impact damage by 15%. Took literally 7 throws to put him down.
A fully upgraded Skykiller (legendary spike thrower) can take down an Apex Slaughterspine in something like 5 throws if you use the ranged damage boosting valor surge with the right coils.
i would say try to use traps, the explosive disc, and powershots to the weak points like the sides. All is all, this game is so dope. Hope they expand it to more
there are numerous things you could’ve done to make the fight easier stealth damage boost (smoke bombs) low hp boost (both of these can be boosted even more with certain outfits and weaves) frost (increases the amount of damage you do whilst in its elemental state by a ton) use a sharpshot bow instead unlike zero dawn, the hunter bows in this game deal very little damage and aren’t good at all against big machines like this. advanced/elite sharpshot arrows combined with the frost brittle state, low hp and stealth boost, along with valor surges such as ranged boost, powershots or critical boost can deal thousands of damage with one single shot. the focused technique with sharpshot bows helps a lot as well, and make sure to shoot components (use your focus to make them highlight yellow) instead of just shooting random parts of the machine *tldr:* use frost’s brittle state along with low hp and stealth boosts and damage increasing valor surges with sharpshot bows to deal tons of damage quickly instead of using hunter bows to deal very little damage with each shot. shoot components. there’s also a possibility that you fought this thing earlier than recommended, which can also contribute to its difficulty.
I get how stressful acting a video and fighting this can be cause I did it on the apex slaughterspine in the mission to get the mount sun wing or whatever, and for some reason I got apex not normal idk how- and I LOVE HOW YOU KEPT STANDING IN THAT VID- I would've died already.
Next game definitely needs to have ability to coordinate attack with overiden machines. And maybe improve more on climbing and smooth our terrain. Many times a character stuck on a small crack on the ground, movement is still clunky on moving while in combat with large machines
If you have a certain type of hunter arrow you can mark a target for overridden machines, but I agree that I wish they would improve the functions of machine overrides
Yep, Soulsgame difficulty for sure. But I would say it's more like 2 hits until you're dead, the first hit will drop your health down extremely low but the 2nd one will finish you off. That's how it was like for HZD so I'm imagining it's like that here too. That's why legendary armor and legendary weapons are the way to go.
@@cowenhames9404 currently on it, dying over 9000 times. Its not that its generally hard, it's just that the balancing is pretty weird because some encounters are just brutal.
Slaughterspines and Tremortusks are my favourite machines to fight in this game since the battle music makes it exhilarating on another level. Gives me the chills while fighting these beasts.
to be honest i think the original fireclaw was worse. you blasted out all the weakpoints and the goddamn hellspawn was still at 80% hp or maybe i just sucked, thats an option too, that thing ate so much ressources to kill speaking of the first game, anyone know if shadow carja armor makes you immune to sound effect like it did in the first?
Eh the fireclaw wasnt that bad too kill if you had the bluegleam fire armor with decent weaves, made them do much less damage. And after destroying the belly you can freeze them then just apam triple arrows from hunter bow
@@Vaultyboi22 thats the point aloy was given better tools to specify take them out during that dlc. But if you take one on using all purpose armor they can still deal out so punishment. All I'll say is that given that we had more op stuff in HZD ive died many more to a fireclaw than ive ever died to a Slaughterspine. I liked where they where going with it an upgraded plasma thunderjaw but ive yet to die to a Slaughterspine
I do think the fireclaws were worse in HZD than they are in FB, but I still wasn't amused when I hit an area where there was a frost claw, killed it, and just as I was about to loot and celebrate..ANOTHER frost claw showed up...and I didn't have the ammo to take it on, so I had to run, and leave the loot.
Levelling up the weapons makes a big difference. The slots that it unlocks is a big help. At level 50, with maxed out weapons, the Slaughterspine can be killed in a few advanced explosive spikes (as long as you target the fins)
Dude your gameplay is really good. I also love your weapon set up. I kinda overlooked the Skykiller and now you're making me want to use it more often to take on large machines.
Idk i still think the original fireclaws gave me the most trouble. Dont get me wrong the Slaughterspine is tough but the what made the fireclaws soo horrific was how hard they hit combined with their tremendous mobility, which made it incredibly hard to actually land shots on them despite their size. I revisited HZD a few days before HFW came out and booted up my two time NG+ aloy with all my super coiled up banuk weapons and ice rail not to mention the OG shield weaver and i still got my ass handedto me twice before killing it. So me being more equipped plus a non nerfed version of tripple notch, and I still died to it twice before succeeding. Whereas i know it might be my experience but i killed the Slaughterspine on my first attempt. I'll say its worse than a thunderjaw, but on par with the fireclaws in the HFW, and still easier than HZD's version of the technological terror. (id still like to see OG daemon fireclaw from HZD verses an apex Slaughter spine in an AI battle)
@@nightdriver7216 exactly, the main reason why i think Slaughterspines are easier is because you can actually hit them. They're plagued with the problem that all big machines have is that they make big targets, and a machine i can hit consistently is a dead machine. BUT what makes fireclaws/frostclaws so bad is that they hit like big machines but are rather small as far as large machines go and they are fast and erratic. Making them hard targets to consistently hit. Usually they only give you about a 1 second at most chance to get a good hit on them before attempting to RKO you. And the only moves they do that lock them in place for more than a second necessitate extensive dodging. So yeah IMO fire/frostclaws are still the kings of the wild
@Game Dude precisely there was this comment i got on a different video of a guy claiming he believed that deathbringers, stormbirds, and thunderjaw where harder to kill than fireclaws and i just couldn't make sense of any of it at all. Fireclaws have been deadly for the reason you listed above and because its hard to shut them down. With a thunderjaw you can remove its disk launchers and laser cannons with relative ease, and same with deathbringers just expose their heat vents and you can practically one shot them with a super upgraded icerail. Stormbirds are jokes too just knock off their lighting gun and they cant do much to you. But fireclaws and to a lesser extent frostclaws have armored weakpoints which they rarely ever expose to you. They're small, and hard to hit because they're constantly moving plus even if you do manage to destroy them it just stops them from adding fire/frost effects to their attacks but they still have the attacks at large to destroy you with. If you knock off a thunderjaws weapons or a storm bird they have to resort to predictable melee attacks but. Frost/fire claws thrive off being in your face and have countermeasures to prevent you from camping in the distance ie (lava/stalactites) or just running to you in less than a few seconds.
@@Higurashika We don't care about your opinion. You are everywhere in this comment section bashing the game. Go back to playing your sword slashing over and over games or go play your stupid fucking assasins creed with a story worse than GOT season 8...
The way that thing sounds and moves, it's the stuff of nightmares. Could you imagine seeing such a thing? A giant robot dinosaur that shoots lasers. If I walked out of the bunker and saw that, I'd go back in and stay there forever.
it's true. i encountered one tryna find the iridescent crab/lobster shell thingy for my pouch upgrade. first reaction was to take it out and clear the way but realised it's too much work. later on i realised there's a shore nearby which was much safer and had an abudance of what i need.
I can't afford a PS5, but I think it would be the most rewarding thing in my life to play this game. It feels like a fever dream as it combines everything my nostalgia can connect to: dinosaurs, robots, open world and Shadow of The Colossus.
remember seeing this guy for the first time from a distance and thinking to myself, "huh. that's an odd-looking Thunderjaw...." then I got a closer look. and soon regretted getting a closer look.
This was on of the most tense fight I've ever seen in a video game. Last year I've begun horizon zero down but it seemed very complex and needed way long time for achieving anything so I left it alone in some corner of my HDD. Yesterday with this new hzd I thought maybe I should try again and played a couple of hours and I should say this game is a really rare piece of art. Even though it needs to be played quite loong hours for getting Aloy such a Rambo like here 😂 I think I'll continue to play.
It really doesn't need that long lol. No idea what you're talking about, you can 100% the game in well under 100 hours and part of the fun is earning your way to being a bad ass at the end. Go play the first game so you can understand the story, if you want to jump straight to being overpowered then maybe go buy some gold on an MMO lol
Guerilla ditched the story to satisfy combat junkies. Playing Horizon ZD second is misleading, it has a much better grip on the story and far better upgrade paths than having to grind away with pidlly weak weapons to avoid destroying components in Forbidden West
@@bertbox69 I agree upgrading the equipments are way harder now (and annoying, takes too long if you wanna max out a legendary item) but I really like the mechanism of taking specific parts from specific machines, they could keep this system but make it easier in the next game

@@Higurashika maybe I just love playing games. And u cant tell me what the game is... that's ur opinion.. but I love it and so far it's the best I've played
This game is so satisfying and yes I saw this and it spoiled it for me but you know what I’m OK with it because I enjoy this damn game so much. Keep on keepin on buddy
When I fought this when capturing Hephaestus, I felt like I was fighting Godzilla which was awesome and the cutscene for the final mission was amazing.
I played it on normal, and it did A LOT of damage. I had lucked out cause I found a lot of healing just before I ran into it..otherwise, I'd have been effed. As it is, it took like three tries to take it down. I almost had it my second time, but at just a moment where I tried to put distance between me and it, it did the satellite lasers, and killed me. The third time was the charm. At that point, I knew its patterns enough to keep decent distance and reduce how much damage I was taking by using hills/dunes to my advantage.
Personally I have a harder time with the fireclaws - especially if you're after their flame-sacs so you have to avoid shooting their only easy-to-hit weak spot. Slaughterspines are much more fun though!
You can target the shoulder sacs and still get the component. Use ice bombs Then power shots valour surge and braced shots with precision bow. Even on harder difficulties you can melt their health bar
Yeah I now have enough lovely gear that with the right valor surge I can melt them pretty fast - but still not as fast as the Slaughterspines. My main issue with slaughterspines is detaching their kidney storage boxes because they move around so much; if I just want to bring it down, there are so many weakspots that take up so much of its body - it's *much* easier than a Fireclaw
Fireclaws are b*STDs. If it wasn't for the proxy sack webbing you keep needing, I'd just put the thing out of its misery with explosive traps and spikes
Loved this machine. Found the best way for me was to use my aggressive mode fire clawstrider to help. Makes it end the fight faster plus using the legendary weapons. I just love having a partner in crime. Wonder if I can use the aggressive sun wing and aggressive clawstrider together
My preferred method of fighting these guys is turning their spinal weapons into pincushions. They’re pretty easy targets and there’s so many you’re going to hit one almost every time until they start falling off. Also, shooting and closing all the charging ports when it’s charging up makes it plasma itself when it finishes
You really make this fight tougher for yourself by not sliding and just rolling, also not using any traps, barely using concentration for more precise arrow shots, same goes for the special attack choice. You could really end this fight in half the time by being more effective in hitting those weak spots
Yep, first thing I do when hunting apex for parts is to track its path then set elite traps. Then I hide and when it activates a trap I shoot at its weak points for a bit then I smoke bomb the hell outa there and hide again till it goes back to yellow alert and shoot at weak points again. Just rinse & repeat.
@@Zagatho yeah, thats a solid tactic, though I like to face it head on at some point, otherwise it can get repetitive and kinda on a cheesing side for me , but yeah, that smoke bomb - saved my ass many times , also using specials is good in critical moments - since You are invincible for the moment animation runs :D
