Is it bad that the first thing I thought of when I saw this video was a flashback of your other Timber UMX flying into the sign post at the old house?!? I really do appreciate that you share those types of moments with us. It was a huge confidence booster for me when I was just getting started (and still is). You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the hard work that goes into your content.

Thanks Eric, and no it's not bad :) I've crashed many times for our videos, and it's just kinda part of the hobby...there are less of them as I improve as a pilot, but they won't every be totally prevented in my best estimation.

I bought this plane and will say its what I want to take to the park. I have bigger planes, even have jets. There is just no way I will arrive at the park without it. I just LOVE this little thing. It hangs with the big boys in the wind no problem.

Brian, Thanks for the video. I just finished setting up my UMX turbo timber and new DX8 using your UMX timber video of 2 years ago. It helped a bunch. I will definitely go over this video to look for any items I missed. I appreciate the detail you go into in model setup and especially the transmitter since I have less than one weeks experience with the DX8! Rich

Thanks so much for the video! After a hiatus from balsa rc models 10 years ago, I got this for some stress relief here at home. Your setup was great, and I had the same rudder and SAFE issues. The step by step helped a lot, and I am amazed how far this tech has come since the AM and FM frequency radio days. First flight tonight, and I mixed in some flap-elevator , but had two good 3 min flights! You have a new subscriber !! Thanks!

bought mine a few days ago... Love the flaps!!! I live in the city so space is limited, although I have a big yard.....NOT GOOD AT ALL IN THE WIND...A beginner will NOT be able to handle it in the wind..If a beginner buys this plane, consider first flights in a large field.. If you get in trouble , KILL THE THROTTLE FIRST, THEN ATTEMPT TO RE GAIN CONTROL...ALWAYS KILL THE THROTTLE WHEN IT GETS OUTA HAND...YOU WILL SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY!!! I am a scale flyer so this plane will fly better with less than half throttle once airborn... Night flying is awesome with a moon!!! Thanks for the Vids!!

Finally got to fly mine yesterday and today. I need more batteries! Mine was setup with the same issues as you had. Slight right rudder deflection and needing nose down trim. I did a mechanical rudder adjustment and moved the elevator one hole in and will try that maybe tomorrow. Not much elevator throw out of the box. Much better flying airplane than the Sport Cub 500. The plane glides forever. Have to adjust my base to final pattern accordingly to plan touchdown point. I like it!!! Thanks again. R

If you make the channel assignment first, should work for you. The Rx is what handles the SAFE Select, so the Transmitter is indifferent to what's happening on the other end.

Great vid again guys! Love the taillight addittion on the origional UMXTimber, I think I found your channel when looking to see if anyone had a better idea than my own design plans for my 1.5M origional Timber.. your right, the UMX looks orange! Also love the airplane nook.. haha ..To share some mutual knowledge w/RU-vid'ers, on those soft/ rough field landings, just like the full scale planes, INTO THE WIND stabilized slow as possible airspeed, hanging on prop power and kiting the wing, flare by power (pitch will immediately stall it) and carry some power briefly "dragging" it as the prop blast helps keep tail down as it touches..flying taildragger ski & float plane models one learns how to use the throttle! The light planes tend to tip in the turf easy, especially if plane hasn't enough Elev.throw... (like, "WARP -15 EXPO" insanity "crazy" mode!) Lol🙃😁😜👍 LOVE THE THREE RASCALS!😸😸😸 We have a cute little mouse @ our airfield, cute till he gets in the mower..the baby rabbits & momma rabbit are a hoot too, they're very relaxed. Probably because I'm defending the airspace! WE should get chickens to eat the ticks, but they'd be chicken strips if a fan hits'em! Thanks again guys!

I believe it's coming, but I can't say for sure. Even if I'm not supposed to say, I wouldn't encourage you to wait. So much fun to be had in the mean time!!! Timber bit.ly/3cEjplB NX8 bit.ly/3mbVuNB If you go with the NXS, you will be super limited...there's supposed to be some profile adjustments, but they'll be made by the guys at horizon...so we won't be able to adjust stuff (that I KNOW of)...so if you bite the bullet now and get the NX8, you can skip a lot of RTF transmitters along your progression...but to all their own ;)

I didn’t have the addendum in mine and it took me a bit to figure out to do it the other way to set up safe. I bought this and a dx6e and so far it’s been a blast, maybe thinking since I’m loving the hobby so far I should have gotten the DX8E but I’m sure the 6e will take me a long time to grow out of.
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 4 года назад
If you're loving the hobby, you may want to consider getting the DX8, rather than the DX8e. You may not need to upgrade to the DX9 for a VERY long time. I don't want to discourage you in either, but just mean to suggest $100 more for this will be spread over many, many planes, potentially. The DX8 is very nice. I have a DX18 Gen1 and a DX9 Gen2...I still use my DX18, even though it's older technology. I LOVE IT. I'm a SUPER cheap-skate, and have NEVER regretted buying the DX18...even when I had a slider go bad, and had to replace it (company took care of me on it under warranty, btw). DX8 - bit.ly/2xmsD5f DX8e - bit.ly/34uxoWn Thanks for your consideration. So glad you're getting into it enough to make this investment. ONE MORE ADDICT ;)

Terrific video Brian! I can't fly mine at all r/n since it pulls hard to the right so I can't even take off. I feel like the thrust angle of the prop is too far right. Might have to get some washers to bring it left some. My rudder is also canted to the right for some reason. I don't understand the installation of the leading wing edges, or why they are needed either. Seems like they wouldn't attach very securely and sit up off the wing. I've very glad you go through the programming, it's super helpful. I did a profile from a template this time since the NX6 has it in the database, but it helps to recheck all those settings, and the manual isn't great about filling in the blanks.

My UMX is all set to go, except for the battery charging. The adapters I ordered are backordered and so are all the 2s chargers that I see on line. Crap! I was really looking forward to flying this plane, but it won't happen without some charged batteries. Great video, especially with the radio set-up info for a newbie like me. I see in your videos you fly in the area from the trees on the right to the clump of trees on the left. Roughly how many yards long is that area? Someone has said I can use a small field surrounded by trees and I wonder how much space I need for the UMX TT (I guess not much) and also a 1.3m Tundra. Thanks

Thanks! We know it's hard to figure out the Radio Setup without some help, so we routinely share this step. As for the width of our property, you're looking at about 300 feet between tree lines, if measured straight...but we get a bit more being we're at an angle. SAFE works without activating the throttle above 25%. When you move it around, flip her on her back, and find the center point, then watch for the ailerons to move from FULL LEFT to FULL RIGHT...this is the way to tell. AS3X will work furiously AFTER you apply 25% throttle.

I absolutely hate the jst-ph connectors that come with the airplane and Eflite batteries, they also create an amperage/power choke point which reduces performance while over working the battery and causing premature low voltage warnings. I switched to an xt30 connection and noticed an overall power increase, plus it works better for parallel charging numerous batteries at once. Awesome tutorial video and keep up the great work.

Good call, and TOTALLY AGREE! This is why they switched out to the IC2...which sucks that it doesn't work with the XT30, like their big brothers XT60 and XT90...which are just fine with EC3/5 and IC3/5
