There is a difference in the three types of storebought ropecasters, actually: green version fires light strength ropes, blue is medium strength ropes, and purple is heavy weight ropes. The heavier the weight of the rope, the fewer shots you need to hold down a machine and the longer the machine will stay down, especially large machines.
I missed the advice on using the corruption arrow which is far most my favorite gadget. I found it most useful when big bad machines are in groups. 2-3 arrows and they do the hard work for me and afterwards all I have to do is finish off the "last man standing" :) and collect the loots. (it doesn't work with corrupted or daemonic machines but can be good against bandit camps by corrupting the elites so they wreak havoc around themselves)
Exactly! Especially those thunderjaws at the end of the video, take one over. Use frost arrows on the other one so that one is weaker and your corrupted thunderjaw can win the fight more easily when he is outnumbered. Really useful indeed!
I need to get use to shooting and changing ammo, you make it look so simple, I guess with practice it gets like that yes I have enjoy the game so much, thanks for the video
Now that HZD has been available to PC, I'm soooo enjoying the multitude of challenges this game has to offer, and your tips have been very instrumental with the extra satisfaction of battling machines in good style - especially with the strategy of tear-blast arrows, freeze arrows, and sticky bombs - way cool.
I genuinely love your videos. Ive been obsessed with horizon from 2018, but have had to start recently due to only now getting a PlayStation again. I hope you do some content of forbidden west!
Hello! I just downloaded hzd for PC and it's my first time playing it since I don't own a ps4. I know you're not that active anymore on RU-vid but I wanna say I appreciate your content! 😊
No joke, just started streaming this game, and didn't notice the bows use different arrows. Thought it would just be craft arrows, use the bow with stats you like. THANK YOU FOR THIS VID!!!!
In the Glinthawk fight when you take down the dude (avoiding spoilers) I used the Sharpshot bow and Tearblast arrows to take out their ability to snow on me, but then you need to get them as soon as they fall, because they switch to diving attacks.
I know this is a year ago, but i just got the game and it's really awesome and with your help it got sexier. BUT!!! you have nothing on the frozen wilds T_T would love it if you did. Thanks for the help once again!
I'm playing on Ultra Hard difficulty and find the freeze warrior bow, although upgraded to max freeze mods, still don't do much damage for me. But when I watched your video on how you said the Freeze warrior bow is a very interesting weapon and see how you very often use it, I wonder tearing components and armor apart. Because I'm just so bad at it, I just ended up using the Tearblast sharpshooter. Any tips on how to help me utilize my warrior bow because it's just sitting in my inventory and never get used? Overall, it's a very good video with good explanation. Thumbs up.
2:32 - With the Sharpshot bow, maybe balance changes have been made since the game was released - but adding +Tear modifications does nothing to TearBlast arrows. The Tear amount is always 100, regardless of how many mods are added. +Handling mods are probably a better bet, if this is what you mainly use the bow for. You might add some +Tear for the Harvest Arrows, but the default amount is fine when you're farming low/medium size machines. +Handling or +damage mods is probably better. If you use it for Precision arrows, then you're not really using it for the Tear component (better to use a Tearblast arrow). So, stick with +Damage or +Handling mods in this case. As I note, things may have been much different when the video was made - but this is how they work now.
Wrong. I just added three Tear mods to my Shadow Sharpshot Bow (44%/44%/41%) and the tear damage of Tearblast Arrows went up to 231. I only bought the Complete edition of the game a few weeks ago as digital download on the PS4 Summer of Games sale. It's up to date and includes The Frozen Wilds DLC. That being said, it could have been a bug three months ago that has since been fixed, but from what I can see in this video, it's accurate. It's kind of rude to come on to someone's video and correct them when you're completely wrong.
@@viperhalberd - the display value for "tear" is incorrect ingame for Tearblast arrows. Your bow may say 231 - but that's not the value that will be applied. It will ALWAYS be a flat 100 on Ultra-Hard level (from Story->Very Hard level, it will be 200). I don't blame you for being wrong here, that is what is is showing you ingame. I do blame you for wading in on the subject, when you don't understand how the game really works. My comment is to help people actually understand what is happening ingame, and stop them wasting modification slots by putting tear mods when using Tearblast arrows. I last played HZD a few weeks back, this display bug was still in place then. Note - I am not saying that Tear mods do nothing. They do apply correctly to all other ammo apart from the Tearblast arrows (and the Tearblaster weapon, of course, but it works differently - its 50 Tear strength always removes any component in one hit. That's a different discussion). But, I can assure you that I am correct when I refer to the Tearblast arrows and their Tear strength. Have you actually tested that your statement is correct, and I am wrong? So, when you use your Tearblast arrows, with 231 Tear, do you really notice that they are stronger than before? Most of the time, it won't matter if the value is 100 or 231 - most components have less tear strength than that - and they just come off. The exception is Thunderjaw disc launchers. They have a tear value of 400. On easy->VH level, your Tearblast arrow has a base damage of 200 tear, and gets double Tear damage on disc launchers. One hit - it comes off. On Ultra Hard, it still has a Tear value of 400. But now, I say that your Tearblast arrows are doing 100 Tear damage (disc launchers don't take the extra damage anymore) - you need to hit the disc launcher 4 times to make it come off. By your logic, your bow only needs to hit it twice. Go ahead, test it out yourself and let us know which of us is correct? If you don't want to test it yourself - then you're also welcome to read up what others, who have performed detailed tests, have put forward. For example: www.reddit.com/r/horizon/comments/6oc83g/how_tear_works/ To take your post and adapt it a little: "It's kind of rude to come on to someone's helpful comment and correct them, when you're completely wrong."
@@kensavage7657 Mate why would I have read a two year old Reddit thread for a game I've owned for three weeks? I admit that everything comes off with Tearblast arrows no matter what which is why I don't use triple tear on my sharpshot bow. Your comment didn't explain that the display was bugged, it just said the video was wrong. You could have presented this evidence then instead of just saying that it does nothing. The less well-informed players of the game, like myself, might just find it a bit confusing to see contradictory information, especially when most of this guy's videos have been solid so far.
Ropcaster saved my life in ultra hard: when the final boss calls adds and i get chased by corrupter or ravagers, i could just lock them and keep firing at the boss
I mainly use the sharp shot for taking off heavy weapons off thunderjaws and ravagers but if I'm going up against a rock breaker I will max it out for impact damage and notch 3 arrows and shoot the pitch thing under its belly and it brings it down to 1/4 health
@@madsam7582 I found it best to be used when a large group of people are running straight towards you & the situation is a bit desperate. Kinda like a machine gun type strategy.
Me, brand new using the rope caster and trip caster, in pretty much every difficult combat. (I dont have the upgraded war bow so i cant utilize ice arrows that a lot of the big bois are susceptible to)
one thing i didnt follow in this video is the advice of not using tripcasters during battle...the blast wire does 400+ damage and can go higher...significantly higher damage than the blast sling. you just need to learn how to shoot it right. early to mid game blast wires are so OP lol. i think i used the starter green weapons for a little while then went straight to the shadow tripcaster and could destroy machines.
I didn't know that either! I've seen other playthrus were knocked off components are still on the ground and available to be looted, so I am not sure why he says this.
Could you plz go over the Forgefire, Icerail and Stormslinger? i would like to know if they are better individually or if the warbow or sling is better for elemental damage
they have stopped uploading but I will answer the question. The icerail and stormslinger are better for damage but I think that the forgefire is better for elemental damage
I find freezing enemies and hit them then with 3 precision arrows knocked together in a weakspot deals way to much damage . My sharp shot bow has has 2 40 percent damage mods with tear and corruption as secondary and a 60 percent handling mod with damage and tear as secondary and tertiary.
Frozen enemies receive more damage so having 3 high damage arrows on a normal enemy already will do insane amount of damage. A frozen one being more brittle of course is gonna get even more than before thats just using the weapon effects to your advantage and that's not considering damage mods being factored as well
What weapons do you use in your wheel? Im planning to go for the 2 bows one with fire and the other with tearblast, the 3rd slot is a ropecaster... What do you suggest i put on my 4th slot? Im not really into replacing them again ana again in the menu so i want a solid wheel. Thanks man
@@moahmedallam6732 If you shoot off machine components with it and pick one up they give more resources. For example if you shoot off one blaze cannister with a normal arrow (hardpoint/precision/hunter/tearblast) it'll only give one blaze but if you shoot it off with a harvest arrow it will give 5 or 6
Is ropecaster really that useful? I just don't find it so or maybe it's just because I'm not using it right. Why tie down a machine to shoot it when you can just shoot? They'll break free anyway when substaning enough damage.
You want to use it as a trick like tie down a sawtooth and then put like 2-3 blast bombs down then go in for a critical strike so when it gets up from the strike damage it will hit the bombs and be big dead Also the roapcaster is essential on the hardest difficulty english is not my first language
It's awesome for crowd control when you get outnumbered by machines, it gives you time to pirate the machine if you lack hiding herb to do it stealthily and -i'll have to check this one, it could count for the skill dealing a critical spear hit for machines taken down
if you play the game in the STORY MODE and after you get the special travel bag free travel and if you get that special outfit it is looks like you have infinity life and one or two hit kill so good so why you have to fight robots and get boring this game can go up to 20-25 hours you need the adventure not the same fights every 2 minutes...
Many ask that how can a primitive tribal people take on a high tech machines with spear and arrow. But one must also consider that the spears and arrows use was made from advance materials harvest from old world ruins and dead machines.
Very new to the game. Thanks for the informative video. This was definitely helpful in making these weapons make sense. I have a question and I know this video is 3 years old so you may not even remember the game at this point but.... in the video you talk about a shotgun like weapon that could tear pieces off the enemies that maybe you weren’t aiming for. BUT.... you definitely made it cleAr that that is not a good thing. Maybe this will become more clear with more gameplay but what are the negatives to tearing a machines parts down I guess randomly ?!? Do they get stronger if you don’t do it in a certain order ?obviously each enemy is different... but that would mean each enemy has to have its own strategy and unique order of steps needed and/or pieces blown to shit off of said enemy. Simply put there’s a right way and a wrong wAy to kill a machine monster thing ?? LoL
Further clarification of my question .... I’d think knocking ANY pieces off of any given enemy I find myself battling with , would be a good thing. Each piece knocked off is one less piece it has and puts it that much closer to being destroyed... no ???!? Hopefully that makes more sense. Thanks taking the time to even read this if you do
@@jspivack85 Ik im a year late, and u might even have figured it out on your own, but the answer is no, there is no specific way to kill any machines. Of course, you can and should use ur focus to reveal weak spots that when destroyed, provide more damage to the machine than just shooting it randomly. Now, u can destroy any of this parts in any order. For example, the thunderjaw that has many weapons. U can simply destroy the missile launchers first and then the laser beams from his mouth and vice-versa. He will become weaker regardless and not the opposite. Hopefully this helped, if u were still in doubt :)
@@saifallauddin as far as i know, none. Maybe you won't get the maximum from that machine, if you destroy the components instead of tearing it of, but honestly for me, that is no big deal. I mostly farm thunderjaws and behemots so im not bored by that at all.
Am more of a hands on type of person this game is out of my element because I suck at bow and arrow and shooting. I wish I could use my spear and hands more often then range attacks.
I'm new to this game and used to your skills determining your playstyle rather than have to rotate through weapons which sounds clunky? Why not just have one weapon and switch through different arrows for different types of damage? I dunno, I'm just 6 hours in and hope I'll get used to it? But needing to switch out through menus does break the immersion a bit.
You increase damage with mods, and higher rarity weapons have more slots. Health increase by 10 every level, you cannot add to it in any other way, but with mods in your armor you can increase your resistances to a type of damage. There is an easy farm spot to the west of rost house, where you begin the game, with two pile of trash with very high chances of having purple mods, you can start there and begin getting better gear buying weapons in meridian, or at least blue rarity if you're not far enough in the game
So I am quite confused about your comments on the Tearblaster. When would you possibly NOT want to tear a component off? How could you ever tear off a component by mistake? I am not sure I understand that. Every component you tear off weakens the enemy, so how could that possibly be a bad thing? Normally torn off components are available to be picked up, does the Tearblaster not allow for that? Do components removed by the Tearblaster disappear for some reason when they don't when torn off by other means? I am really not understanding that comment...
Yeah, I didn’t understand that either. It’s personally my favorite weapon when dealing with large machines. Between that and the shield weaver, I feel like I’m cheating. Lol.
Not sure if still you need it, but there are several types of components that can explode and deal damage, such blaze canisters, power cells and chill water, if you shoot them with special arrows, it can either explode and light up the machine, freez or shock it instantly.
tear simply tears off the component. on certain occasions you want to deliberately leave components on and use specific elemental arrows for them with the goal of an elemental explosion. i.e: tear blasting blaze canisters loses out on the fire explosion that would have happened if fire arrows were used instead. another thing is you can get high crit damage on certain components if you use direct impact. if you tear those off, you lose the chance to do so..since tear itself does little to no damage in comparison to other types of attacks.
For the hunter bow, what arrow is better/useful, hardpoint or fire arrow? I would like to focus on one kind of mods but not sure which one to choose. I was thinking on using the sharpshooter for pure damage, but it is kind of slow, so maybe use hardpoint instead... But too many people suggest too focus on fire for the hunter bow!
The hardpoint and fire arrow can not be mutually exclusive in my opinion, meaning they are both hugely important. You're right that the sharpshot bow is slow. For that reason I have never relied on it for damage, especially in close combat. You can get away with 1 handling, 1 fire and 1 impact mod in your hunter bow. I wouldn't rely on fire damage because once the machine is burning, using more fire arrows won't do anything, which is why you need to think about using hardpoint arrows.
Jambomus I do agree, fire is as important as damage. I was reluctant to focus on fire for the reason youve mentioned: after burning affect the fire arrow is useless on that machine, I mean is cool to apply the affect with one arrow and all, but I don't like to rely on sharpshooter bow for damage. I will try your setup (never thought of using a handling mod, but I guess it makes sense) if it does not work for me, I will use 2 hunter bow, one damage and one fire :P. Thank you and great video!!
Im using hardpoint Arrow for more important i use all 50% damage mod, then all i use first is the shadow war bow with it freeze arrow to freeze the machine.then shoot it with that hardpoint arrow
@@moahmedallam6732 shoot the containers on the machine to gain more blaze or chill water. Blaze for explosives and fire arrow and chill water is for ice bomb and freeze arrows
@@moahmedallam6732 like if you don't use harvest arrows on the containers you get like 5 blaze or chill water and with the harvest arrows you can get 20 blaze or 20 chill water per machine. And you're welcome.
Efrain Rivera Because damaging certain components does critical damage but if you remove them, you then lose that opportunity to deal a ton of damage to the machine. So in short, removing certain components = loss of critical damage opportunities.
What difficulty level is this on? On Ultra Hard the Shadow weapons cost 4k - 7k each. Its why I clicked on this video. Can't afford more than one every 10 hours or so. Thanks for the info
I dont like how the weapons dont have damage stats like most games this is a rpg it seems and its not there its hard for folks like me to pick a good weapon we only can go off of the elements
I really don't understand this criticism. If there are no dmg stats and only elemental differences then it would seem that you simply pick the weapon with the elements you want to use. Or do you absolutely need numbers to get that dopamine high?
