Having examined the OO GWR Castle and LNER A1 representatives of Hornby’s centenary celebrations of the Big Four, it’s now the turn of the LMS’ representative in the form of Fowler’s highly-successful 2-6-4T.
That 2nd coach I recognise as a Mainline LMS P3 Corridor. Nice to see that even advanced modelers like Tony Wright have the odd bit of ancient Mainline rolling stock. Their locomotives may be unreliable, but their wagons and coaches were fantastic
The better bearings and long travel valves resemble the design features of another LMS loco of the same period, the Horwich-designed Hughes Crab. It must have been a mistake at Derby to let Horwich do some of the design work!
Do you know or have any link info to what may be the upgrades to this model from the one issued 20 years ago. Hornby state diecast chassis was this always the case? Are there any LED lighting upgrades? Cheers
I’ve got one that’s about 10 years old, and it looks identical. It’s so good I wouldn’t bother paying the extra for the new one. Look for the instruction sheets online to compare the spec of new and old.
I think I can see why it derailed SMB first again Hornby hasn't got enough up and down movement in that clip running bunker first the bogie literally comes off the track, so I would imagine when pulling carriages or stock what have you, it pulls the bogie or moves it out of alignment with the track causing derailments.
