It was fascinating to see all the different motors and mechanisms. Very glad you pointed out the need to use lubricating oil that does not damage plastic: not everyone knows. Also very glad you rescued that handsome little engine from the skip.
Im glad youve shown inside Edwards tender because ive had no idea the latest Hornby Thomas tender engines had an updated motor block from the 5 pole ringfield, i might have to upgrade my James and Gordon to that motor if i can find the spares!
Nice guide. The 0-6-0 chassis has been available in a few variants. There's a version without traction tyres, centre sprung axle and a full flange. That's the magic one. They all run well, but that version with slight compensation eats points for breakfast. A useful chassis for older models, I use them in my E2s. I must confess I bought a Toby when they came out. It looked like a good representation of the television model not being adapted from anything. I believe the chassis was unique as well, I can't think of any else that uses it. Like you say, nice little mechanism. I have an airfix Jupiter somewhere thinking about it, where the hell did I put that?
This is a great educational resource for anyone into model trains.. I have a few questions please... what is the black box with all the switches up under the shelf? I did look through your video list and can't see anything mentioned about it. I have a blue 0-6-0 2004 Gullane Thomas (LTD) Thomas that has the clips at the front under the boiler (which have broken off and i've 3D printed a new set and fitted them) and the rear clip similar to the one that you are showing (Hornby R2325 J83 & Hornby Thomas the Tank Engine) as I notied the S4581 on the frame which is the same numbers as on my Thomas. I have cleaned the wheels, removed them to clean and oil the bearings for the 3 sets of wheels and greased the gears and now that I have put it back it makes a clicking noise... not sure why... any suggestions please?
I've been running in my few new Graham farish N gauge locomotives however one which is a class 57/0 freightliner started squeaking, any thoughts what might be causing it to squeak even though it's new?
None of my engines have ever been serviced, because after playing with them, I always put them back in their boxes to keep the dust off. I do find I need to clean the wheels sometimes, yet I enjoy the simple little task. Thomas loves pulling his two coaches Annie and Clarabel along, wherever he goes. Could you run the Santa Express train pretty please?
