@@Joose chances are they wont be. Theyve said that this album will be a lot closer to their influences (deftones etc). Unfortunately theyll be losing some listeners along the way but I’ll enjoy whatever theyre making whether it be djent or not.
People have been way too harsh on this track. It’s quite possibly the most successful evolution of a bands sound I’ve heard, without being bad at all. I’ve spun this one maybe 10 times since it premiered last night
This shows the bands abilties to push boundaries, experiment and expand on new sounds. Not only were they able to write a unique piece of music, they did it extremely well. Taking chances like this is how great music is made, and I think we can expect greatness from these guys.
@@cloudrise Nah it has elements of both, but this is definitely still uniquely thornhill. Name a muse or deftones song with djent tones throughout along with the overall variety in the structure. I still prefer the butterfly and dark pool thornhill, but am intrigued by this new version of the band.
I really love this song. Yes it's different from The Dark Pool, but they said it was going to be. If you don't like this song that's fine, they have other songs. I think this song is one that needs the context of the album, kind of like the Sleep Token singles for me. There will probably be like 2 or 3 songs like this and this one will probably be around the 7th position on the album or 4th imo. I've talked to the lads before and they are going to have some pretty heavy stuff. Different isn't bad, it takes time to get use to, give whatever comes next a chance and you might be surprised. After all that is what is fun about experimentation in music.
i love Butterfly and TDP with all my heart, but i am all here for this change. This is only gonna be their second LP, theyre evolving and changing and i cant wait to hear the rest of what this album has to offer
Thornhill is my favorite band because The Dark Pool is such a masterpiece, so this is an interesting track to hear from them. I have to agree that this is a good track that has some great heavy guitar and cool sounding vocals. Their sound here reminds me of Deftones, which isn’t bad to me since I like the Deftones, but ofc I want more Thornhill. I love both of Jacobs clean singing and screams so I hope he includes those on future tracks as well as that mellow beautiful ambient guitar from The Dark Pool.
This reminded me a lot of Muse especially with the chorus but this was pretty cool. Honestly it's not really something that I will listen to a lot but I enjoyed this. Also if this doesnt get Jacob a girlfriend I don't know what will and they really took the HORNY4THORNY memes to heart 😂
If this was the first Thornhill song I've ever heard I would have gave up and never looked back. But I am trying to appreciate it because I know how talented they are from Butterfly and Darkpool
The last two lines “I don’t want to see you burn” x2 gives me heavy Craig Owens vibes. The track as a whole is really good, very different from older Thorny but I enjoy it very very much.
my favorite bands/songs are ones where at first listen I'm not really into it and then the more I listen the better it gets. This song is exactly that. Can't wait for what's next!
😂 at the beginning. I definitely enjoyed it. I feel like that sound and vibe they had in The Dark Pool was perfect. It would have been hard to top. Experimentation is always good to me. Can’t wait for the next one!🤘😎
They are not the first one to go from metalcore to more grunge sound, My Ticket Home did that before, and that was the same label. I like the change, like with Northlane, I like both new and old sound, aussie bands just can't do wrong. Their last album was a dark masterpiece though.
Yeah sorry, but this does not scratch any itch for me, didn’t enjoy the chorus or the overall feel of the track and this doesn’t seem like a very logical evolution for the band to go down so it’s a big nope from me unfortunately
I can see why this is a ver divisive song for fans. I am in the same boat as you where I’ve been listening to “metal core” since 2007 and I am starting to sway away from most similar sounds bands and embracing experimentation. I think what makes or breaks it for listeners is if they also like the bands/genres the band is incorporating into their music. For me, I like Muse and I like down tuned guitars, so this is a win for me.
As a fan of this band and a lot of the bands being mentioned in the comments, I fuck with this. It's different but it's good and refreshing. If music was about making the same shit over and over then there would be less bands doing it. Also, its only one song. I don't write anyone off until I hear the project so we'll just have to wait and see but this is sweet
This sound really isn't for me but I never checked out Thornhill before. Gonna check out their older stuff. Thanks for getting me to check out something different !

Totally agree with your points. Sure, I love TDP to death, but refreshing and new sounds (when executed well, like here) are ALWAYS welcome and ultimately more memorable.
I love this song and new turn of sound of thornhill. Mostly because it sounds really unique, not saying their other stuff sounds generic or something, it doesn't but this is my favourite song from them. My favourite bands are Tesseract, Northlane, Deftones and Muse so this song is the perfect combination of my favourite bands.
Courageous move by the band. Always like when a band pushes their boundary. It's like Deftones/Glassjaw/Nothing but Thieves with a dash of Thornhill. Interested in the rest of the album after hearing this one.
They have said countless times that they don't want to become cliche with a certain genre. They want their sound to be hard to define. They achieved that but I feel this was a miss unless they wanted you to get the deftones/Muse vibes. If Muse did this, I might be more interested to see them try something a bit heavier but this is lacking a Thornhill feel imo. I do like the chorus though.
It's so hilarious to me that he has given ERRA so much grief over the years but still had so much praise for this drastic tone change. FFS they are only following Muse on Instagram, speaks alot to where they are headed.
I don't know how I feel about it really. I like it and it's not bad but I loved the Dark Pool so much that it hurts for them to evolve from that into anything different. But let's see what the rest of the album sounds like before going Karen on them
It sounds a lot like Muse meets Deftones. I really dig it but I'm like you in that I'm tired of hearing the same stuff over and over. I can definitely see why fans of "The Dark Pool" are disappointed though. They're gonna lose a lot of fans with this
Song takes a while to grow on you. Its not as good as TDP, but nothing would have been. Still a decent track. Muse/Deftones vibes over their recognizable sound. Bet MONEY the album still SLAPS.
My favorite songs by them are limbo and nurture. So yea this is miles away from that. Just like I stopped liking Northlane after the lead singer change I now will end up not liking Thornhill. That sucks man

Cool song but to me it leans far too heavily on it's influences, the Muse and Deftones inspired vocals are just a bit too much and feel like an identity crisis.
I’m dead. Everyone’s feeling this song and here I am listening to it for a 4th time and still think it’s lame. It’s not for me. This is hardly metalcore
This just doesn’t even sound like thornhill. The dark pool was such an incredible piece of original, natural, seamless structure revolution. Blending dreamy and ambient with heavy. This just doesn’t have that original vibe or special vibe the previous sound had.
