Man what you do to Killswitch, Trivium, Parkway and Darkest Hour was fucking criminal. Also for me, all Killswitch albums are 10/10. OG metalcore is something more than modern, the riffs, the vocals, the harmonies, the lyrics, the emotion. The best era of metalcore period.
Man I love Spiritbox but nothing beats Killswitch. Even if Killswitch had a few duds, they're still very consistent. As Daylight Dies, Alive or Just Breathing, and The End Of Heartache, just are such extremely high highs. I'm also partial since I prefer the 2000s vocals of Howard and the Drop C melo death inspired riffs of Adam over Courtney and Mike Stringer.
Guns for show, knives for a pro goes dummy hard to this day. I'll play that song for some of the bois who know of parkway and I get the "I didn't know they went this hard!" GOATed.
@@sharing64tacos the fact they actually have good riffs is the main thing. Alpha Wolf could never write a song as good as Pull Harder… or an album as good as Shogun.
Converge shouldn’t even be on a bracket. It’s like comparing a 2021 Lancer vs The Wheel. They’re integral to metalcore. Absolutely nobody knows them anymore since Converge is so old but that changes nothing about their importance in shaping the genre and inspiring up to 2 generations of metalcore after their then current scene
In my opinion Imminence is one of the sickest bands out there and they feel extremely underrated . The mix of violin with the pure talent of the singer is just beautiful to listen to
that last one was tough. KSE was a huge influence on me, and to this day when I write music I get told by the 4-5 people that actually listen to my music (lol) that "this sounds like a modernized KSE riff", but spiritbox is currently in my top 10 and I absolutely adore them and how they can play kind of almost progg-y riffs but still have a lot of pop sensibility to them.
After seeing the comparison between Trivium and Alpha Wolf, there's no doubt that Trivium is thousand times more better than Alpha Wolf and not even close enough to beat Trivium. This is like underestimating, disrespecting and humiliating Trivium
It's interesting how Electric Callboy is considered modern and Asking Alexandria is considered OG, when there's only 4 years between their inception. I think of the two as being from the same era.
That might be the case when we only look at the "Sushi" era of Electric Callboy, where they pretty much did the usual emo or metal core stuff, but after the arrival of Nico they changed. I don't think that is the same kind of music how Asking Alexandria did.
I think it was (at the time of release) the number 6 metal album of all time. Can’t remember what magazine gave it that status but it’s widely regarded as a goat album
It's crazy that this list doesn't have Invent Animate, i'd put it against Killswitch Engage, both are some of my most favorite metalcore bands of all time. And i know that the styles of these bands are very different, but recent melodic stuff from Invent Animate in *Without a Whisper* is giving me huge flashbacks of *My Curse* for some reason, it feels like these songs are very similar, but they're also extremely different in many aspects at the same time.
The only buttrock albums Bullet have are Temper Temper and Gravity. The last album is heavy and melodic as fuck, Venom is like The Poison and Fever in one record and Fever is the peak of modern metal.
Gotta be OG all the way. Especially Eighteen Visions. The creator of metalcore in the late 90s. Hell Motionless in white got their name from their song Motionless and white
Hey bro, so idk where to start here man but I screwed up. I was going through a rough time in my life and took it out on you guys in a video. I forgot that all us are a team and in the same boat, I sunk that ship man. This is my public apology to you and the others, the algorithm was messing with my psyche to the point of creating a false reality, I hope that one day all of you can forgive me and the words I said. God has given me the strength to write all of this man. I’ll send the others the same treatment as well. ~Poss
That was really nice of you man. Didn’t have to donate but thank you. The content creation game is not easy all the time and only so many of us can relate to the work so need to support each other
'OG metalcore' proceeds to feature just 2 bands from the actual 90s OG era - That's Converge and Darkest Hour for anyone not in the know. The idea that being 'hardcore adjacent' means something isn't proper metalcore is so strange. Where do you think the 'core part comes from? It's a fusion genre that literally came out of the hardcore scene and started with hardcore bands. Converge were part of creating it ffs! Also, mathcore is metalcore, it's a sub-genre.
The fear that flooded my stomach when you started speaking about AA's impact scared me for a sec. EC will dominate those fools A NY DAY. A metalcore song that makes you go from 'What the hell am I watching?' to smiling and laughing by the end-that's pure metalcore music magic.
Darkest Hour and The Human Abstract shaped my music taste, thanks to Myspace. I was 90% of the time going nuts in the Mypace rabbit hole to find new bands and both those bands really made me enjoy this genre even more.
I have only attended a few streams with Birb but I was on the one the day Jaded was released and he & chat gave some new Beartooth song a higher score, also saying it was the winner of the day and I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT
Yaaaah spiritbox is fantastic, one of my favourite bands right now buuuut Killswitch takes it. They have to. Like killswitch on their own should just give 2 points to OG
All that remains - the fall of ideals, Killswitch engage - as daylight dies, bullet for my valentine - the poison and As i lay dying - shadows are security are my metalcore mt. Rushmore
The fact that " Blessthefall " didn't make it in either video is insane, idk what's worse leaving them off both lists or actually saying on camera that spirit box is better then killswitch, I get wanting to give modern a chance this time but come on man lol. All respect tho, its your opinion and that's ok, just wanted to chime in. Keep up the great vids!
Bro... Giving it to Spiritbox over KSE is disrespectful to the entire genre. KSE is literally the founding father of Metalcore. Without KSE, Metalcore doesn't exist...
From 2000's for me nothing will beat BFMV and Trivium, their riffs was the best stuff of that era along with A7X and post-Iowa Slipknot. Spiritbox is currently my favourite band but it's the only modern metalcore band that I love so much. Courtney is for me the best singer since 10-15 years.
Bullet For My Valentine VS Wage War: My two cents on these, it's tough going up against BFMV, but it's hard to to outright say they had a bad album, only you would hate it because of the genre switches between some records. I love Wage War all the same, but I have to give it to BFMV. The Devil Wears Prada VS Currents: TDWP. Sorry, Currents, but you can't ignore the newer material. Avenged Sevenfold VS Polaris: Easy. Polaris. I love A7X, but compared to the other, it has to be Polaris. Trivium VS Alpha Wolf: Love me some Trivium, but Alpha Wolf just slaps. The Human Abstract VS Allt: I don't know enough of these bands, but going off the brief snipets here, I'm going with Allt. Darkest Hour VS Imminence: Tie. Those bands are great at what they do. Parkway Drive VS Make Them Suffer: Make Them Suffer. Granted, two different styles and I've liked what I've heard of PWD, but yeah, Make Them Suffer. Converge VS Knocked Loose: Wasn't a huge fan of Knocked Loose (for some reason Bryan's vocals were grating on me), but that new album 👌 Asking Alexandria VS Electric Callboy: Now this one I will call you out. The new AA has been great, so leave that "they influenced Crabcore" at the side when you're saying to judge the whole band. However, this one is a tie for me as I also really like EC. Killswitch Engage VS Spiritbox: And this one was a tough one because I really liked KSE, but Spiritbox has just been killing it lately. So, in this case, OG 3 vs Modern at 8. Don't get me wrong, I really started getting into music during the 2000s, but some groups lately. And when a band goes for long enough, they can seriously change, some for the better, and others either not so great or more for an acquired taste (or being in the right mood **cough cough** A7X's Life's But A Dream **cough cough**)
BFMV TDWP Polaris Alpha Wolf Allt. Imminence Parkway Drive Converge (only bc no KL without converge) Asking Alexandria Spiritbox Classic doesn't always mean better either.
i admit im a fan of Spiritbox.... tickets bought and everything but, Killswitch is like... Killswitch IS Metalcore... i believe there's no other band that could compete with them in this genre.
Bullet for my valentine win, but wage war is a great band, the first and second albums are MASTERPIECE TDWP or CURRENTS, i cant choose, im a fan of both Polaris win Alpha Wolf win Allt win Imminence win Make them Suffer win Knocked Loose win Asking Alexendria win Killswitch engage win but Spiritbox is a great band also
I love how butthurt people get when their favorite band isnt also someone else's favorite band lol. I will always appreciate old metalcore but the crisp production on newer metalcore just makes me ditch older music. Music is subjective people, get over yourselves lol
He pretty much outed himself for not really listening to Converge's material but decided to include them anyways and formed an opinion on them without really listening to them, its dishonest and i felt that to be annoying, and people are allowed to feel that way because it oozes dishonesty
@@jcbiggs7658you do realize that makes me actually honest that I admit to not listening to a full album right..? Your definition of dishonest doesn’t make sense lol
@METALBIRB actually, this is my bad, I'll be more specific Yes, you're honest in the fact you haven't listened to much of Converge, but in the process, whatever criticism you make from the band will be misinformed at best and dishonest at worst I'll retract what i said, I don't think you're being dishonest, but I have to ask, why include them in a list if you haven't really listened to much of them?
@@jcbiggs7658but I have, I enjoy the stuff I’ve heard from Axe To Fall and All We Love We Leave Behind more. Hell, Aimless Arrow is one of my favourite songs. This livestream was 60 minutes long condensed down to 20 so context is missing. But at the end of the day this is all trivial and not to be taken seriously. I just enjoy Knocked Loose a lil bit more and they’re killing it.
I could accept everything besides putting any metalcore band over Killswitch engage 😂 The dudes define metalcore. They're the no1 metalcore band of all time
Bfmv over wage war Currents over tdwp Avenged sevenfold over Polaris Trivium over alpha wolf The human abstract over Allt Imminence over the darkest hour Make them suffer over parkway drive Converge over Knocked Loose Asking Alexandria over Electric Callboy KSE over Spiritbox
So didn't pick polaris but then picked alpha wolf over trivium....even though polaris is better than alpha wolf.....parkway drive vs make them suffer is rough...that is a tie for me....og vs new....both have very memorable tracks....I'll just end with...Arf Arf
Human Abstract, even though the sound of the record was a little compressed, Digital Veil was stuck on repeat, and still is a top favorite when it comes to artistic song writing. Plus they had Travis from FFTL, which made the experience a good follow up to the departure of Nick. As long as AJ was involved the band the balance was restored.
i agree with the coment section here u shoosing spiritbox over killswitch is a legit crime, i get the argument for spiritbox but, its killswitch, they are imo concidered one of the best metalcore bands of all time, they had a song for somebody in the wwe, which really is a hard thing to get especially at the time, i will say i am a fan of spiritbox but when u have it against killswitch you shouldnt even think to not choose killswitch
