Death metal can be extremely blast heavy and dull, and with their band name and artwork you could be forgiven for thinking you'd know exactly how they sound before even listening, basically so challenging it's borderline unlistenable Well how nice it is to be proven wrong, these guys have everything I love about metal, riffs, hooks, proggy bits, and they're interesting, they are not a blast beat from start to finish and just extreme because why be melodic and wimpy, I love this band 😀
Found horrendous when Idol released and it was love on first listen. This album doesn't disappoint. It just sounds like the dudes are having the best time ever making music. It sounds fun.
Same here! Idol was just amazing, stupid good riffs all the way round, not a single dud on the album, clean vocals that fit perfectly with the rest of the music which can be described as chaotically dissonant yet melodically beautiful and moving at the same time... I mean Soothsayer is just the perfect example. Gotta listen to this one now though!
I couldn't handle the style of vocals prior to Ontological Mysterium. The vocalist really stepped up their game on this one. The earlier albums were cool. The riffs and leads where awesome but when the vocals came in I couldn't listen.
I would like to thank Jon the Metal Philosopher for recommending these guys. I’ve been listening to metal for 35 years and bands like Horrendous leave no doubt that the genre is in very good hands. 🤘
I heard these guys for the first time last week when I saw them open for Tomb Mold. It was also my first time hearing Tomb Mold. Horrendous blew me away; they were awesome!
I clicked the thumbnail on a whim only based on its color, not knowing who the artist was and after a few seconds I was getting ready to type a comment: "jeezz, they really must like Horrendous a lot"... Well, I may be blind but I sure ain't deaf :D
Decibel gave this a ten, I had high expectations. I'm not really into progressive metal, but this is killer. They make it catchy, riffs for days, cool vocals, sick bass- lots of Death/Cynic worship, but in their own style.
My favorite death metal band. The bass in particular is sick on this album in a way I don't remember on the prior albums, it meshes very well with the rest of the rhythm. Great production and mix, everything is heard clearly. I love that the band is embracing progressive touches while still keeping it thrashy death metal. This is the sweet spot for me, hopefully they find plenty to explore here. This is sounding like an all time classic. Keep it going, love what you're doing!
This is incredible work! I'm not so big into death metal as I am Black and Doom but this is just superb. The guitars hit with such force. Pearler arrangements. Thank you. Keep doing what your doing please!
Oh my god!! Outstanding stuff!!! First feeling was like history is written!! I never found so many fragments of Death-, Black-, Thrash-, Progressive- and Technical Death Metal in a single album!! Timeless masterpiece!! Unbelieveable - unbeatable!! Absolutely mind blowing!! Thank you very much!!!
imho no - maybe every riff in DM was played by someone in about 40 years of existence of the genre, but i dont think they stealed any song from anyone...@@JdjdbNdjdb
@@ivanferencuk2387 wow youre not vert smart. every single riff is stolen, thats what this bands does did tyou know that? lmfao not original at all, stolen riffs make me sick
This fucking rules, not a single stretch where it feels like they didn’t give their most concentrated effort. It’s hard to say that about the majority of metal records today
I just keep coming back here to hear this masterpiece, I guess I have to buy the vinyl now. Brilliant work and great interview with Heavy Metal Philosophy
After a few careful listenings, this album is a lot of fun, the band reached high level of songwriting and injected plenty of spirit in that work but still, I truly prefer the darker jazzy vibe of Idol
@@vardoger3379 Sorry, RU-vid keeps deleting my comment because it mentions another website. But if you Google The Silver The Vagrant Soul it'll come up
This is the first time I'm listening to HORRENDOUS and I love it. On multiple occasions their hardcore sensibilities came through strongly, it almost sounded like Turnstile at times. Love the range and variety this band offers.
Chrysopoeia, Cult of Shaad'oah and Ontological Mysterium are so awesome, very Horrendous-ish. Aurora Neoterica is the new Siderea, love it too. I feel though that Ontolgical Mysterium didn't match their predecessors, Idol and especially Anareta, their best imo. Every song in these albums are great. But in Ontological Mysterium, i feel that some songs are just meh. But still a great album. Horrendous is for me one of the best Death Metal bands today, along with Revocation. Hope they someday come to Brasil.
The more I listen to it, the more I think this is not a mysterium, this is a fucking Ontological Compendium of extreme metal. The sense of artistical freedom coming off this record is insane.
