Well that was entertaining !!! Sort of how Al Bundy would do it, after watching a Red Green video. Can't wait to see how this all goes back together again. You have to video, welding that K-frame.
I’ve had my 72 Demon since new. Never dropped the K-frame off of it. I’ve got a 360 to replace the tired 318. Think I’ll just swap the motor & tranny and leave the K-frame on it. So your video has been educational. Thanks. Hope to see everyone at the Nonamenationals !!!
Yee Haw Duddie!! Good job sir!! Plates on the lower control arms definitely stiffens up and improves the suspension. You plate the whole bottom but there has to be a hole to access the stuff in the bottom.
Great to know!! Not sure If Im going to weld this K-Member, seem to have lots of shenanigans going on with it haha Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
K...you had me in suspense wondering if you'd steer off course. But again, you come thru. You make it look effortless.....or is it just good editing?😁 Carry on young man....take a brake when you can....
Damn Duddie, working with the 12 inch shifter made me cringe a few times !!!! I did get a few laughs and I made a face when the pickle fork violated your personal space :| Steep learning curve for a truck guy but you are gettin it done dude!! PS...Please dont use the shifter for the engine tear down...you have access to the correct spanner, although watching you use that bought flashbacks to Jason over at RTG trying to get his top balljoints with 5 feet of pipe...Keep at 'er mate
The Struggle is Real!! HaHa Yup I made what I had work. Hopefully next time I can use the proper tools for the job. Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
Your videos are very entertaining, more than they are informative…lol BTW my wife wants to see more of Jack. She thinks she’s related…by marriage of course.
Good to know! I wont be running a sway bar and this is a drag racing car, so doesn't look like I need to plate these. Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
We think you will be fine without the plating unless you are planning on dragging the bumper which we would really like to see just fyi.... Some of those welds do look a little sketchy so it wouldn't hurt to touch them up a bit.
If I could make this car drag the bumper with out spitting out the rear axle I would!! HA HA, I may need to find some more Armadillos to put under the hood. Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
Going by memory back about 362 years ago, I believe that the Pitman arm from a later model manual box will work. There were several different Pitman arms so I’m not sure. I know I just ran into issues on scoops with an idler arm from a 76 valiant that wouldn’t fit the 73 swinger… But… That’s all I know
By the way, the proof of mechanical ability is not pre-knowing how things are done, but the ability to figure them out as you go. But I’m not supposed to say anything that might indicate that you know what you’re doing. Sorry. 😂😂😂😂
For a street car and an occasional go fast straight then turn left - I. E. drag car… I wouldn’t bother plating the control arms. I believe that’s more of a handling thing for people who want to do - like - curvy stuff. But what do I know. I’ve never plated the control arms.
Good To know about the plating on the arms. This will be a straight line car so doesn't sound like I need to do it. Glad you pointed out about the 76 VS the 73. I need to go through all the steering and parts to see what I can make work between the 75 Valiant and the 69 Dart. I might not know exactly how to do things the correct way but I do figure out how to do it my way HAHAHA Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
I'd always finish welding the K member. Finishing jobs wasn't always in the UAW contract, and the local pub waited patiently for their lunch break. Mancini Racing sells plates for the lower control arms for a fair price. However, if you're just drag racing the car I wouldn't bother. You would just be adding unsprung weight, with no benefit for your purpose. I plan on making the fatty Satty handle one day, so since I'm there..... Keep up the great work Eric!
Good to Know! Not sure if I will plate or not now that I know it's mainly road racers doing it, but thank you for the information! Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
Duddie, go check out Firm Feel. They sell reinforcement kits for the A-body control arms, K-member, etc... Good video. I will never try and do this outside the car now...
I think that K frame someone tried to fix it and did a poor job. I have never heard about plating lower control arms. Did a Chevy guy tell you this? I know on some GM products I have heard those guys do this.
Good Eye MoparDude! This K-Member has a lot of repair work done to it by the previous owner. I will go over that in a future episode. From what I heard Mopar guys that road race plate the lower arms . Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
Easy way to do it without mushrooming the ball joint is to have he nut on the threads and hit the nut instead of the threaded rod piece that way you will not mushroom it
Your knees on that gravel made my knees hurt ..... I'm going to apply Mineral Ice on my knees for ya... Haven't used these myself, but seem cheap enough... Trans-Dapt Performance Products 4695 Trans-Dapt Performance Engine Swap Motor Mounts | Summit Racing
Hey if you don't want to spend 10 bucks a car for degreaser buy up some oven cleaner it's about 5 bucks or less and works better then engine degreaser in my opinion
Thoes welds are repaired welds that wasn't done right. I wouldn't use it. I'm a body man and from the video it looks like the k frame still has a little bind in it on the driver side like it wasn't pulled good enough especially after see those nasty welds
Good Eye Gary!! I will be going over this K-Member more in a future episode. Lots of previous repairs done to it. Appreciate it and Thanks For Watching!
Why are you changing the K frame. You know you don't have to just because your going from a slant 6 to a V8 . My 19970 Duster that was a slant 6 so I put a 360 in it without changing the K frame. Just use a V8 motor mount bracket that bolts on the block on the short side of the slant 6 k frame and use V8 Is tortion bars on it that's it other than upgrade your shocks
If anyone want a stiffening plates template on PDF i can sell it, you print it and use to cut on the metal sheet 14 gauge. We can use paypal or bank transfer (im in mexico) :D
