@Graphic Vandalism Hey bud! I went back to look @ some of ur older posts, & found this list. We talked about my luv of westerns before. Idk if I stated it before, but the only genre I like more than westerns(still LUV westerns, but horror has always been one of my favorites! It is @ the very top of my Mount Everest of comic genres! But as I probably also mentioned before, I luv ALL genres! I'm a "variety guy," lol. I own a pretty strong amount of obscure titles from various genres. But, as I said, horror is sweeeeet!). So, 1st off: Fantastic video! I luv the variety, & some lesser known titles that u showed here(as u did w/ur westerns list)! I think it's great to see someone give publishers like BOOM! Studios & Vault comics some luv- especially Vault, as it has some excellent titles that just fly under the radar all the time! I have read the 1st issue of both "Everything" & "Resonant" online... & was VERY impressed! And "Mountainhead" will probably be a definite pick up for me in the future! I agree completely agree w/u that John Lees is a masterful writer of horror! I'm going to go a bit deeper, now, than most comics fans probably go, in terms of publishers. I'd wager u know it. It's called Comixtribe. They are a pretty small publisher, but have some very interesting & fun titles. The one I'm going to briefly discuss here is called, "And Then Emily Was Gone." It is a 5-issue miniseries(although there is a prequel-type issue that can be found, possibly). I can't recall where I found it. It wasn't @ a comics shop, due to 1)COVID, & 2)I have several illnesses, from Crohn's to Avascular Necrosis in my hips to Ehler's Danlos Syndrome, & various mental health issues, like Bipolar & OCD- to name 2. And my Crohn's, alone, being an autoimmune disease + my asthma make me a high risk for COVID. Anyhow, I may have gotten it online(I do a lot of shopping online thru Amazon, & sometimes, instocktrades). It isn't necessary, though, at all to completely understand & enjoy the 5-issue mini! They are pretty much unrelated, aside from the utterly creepy, sort of urban legend of a character, Bonnie Shaw, who is like a Scottish boogeyman(it takes place in the Scottish Orkney Islands). Anyhow, John Lees writes it, w/very moody, eerie, expressionistic & disturbing art by Iain Laurie. I'd say the art may be an acquired taste, or some may luv it right out if the gate, as I do(but I also luv the art of Ben Templesmith & Bill Sienkiewicz, so... it might not be everyone's cup of tea, lol). It's basically about a former detective who has had to leave his job, as his mental state is such that he has been driven to the edge if insanity- due to him seeing horrifying monsters almost everywhere(are they possibly hallucinations? Or something more sinister?). Basically, a young girl comes to him(she knows of his lauded past as a detective), asking him to find her missing friend(she's not sure who took her or why, but she thinks it may have been Bonnie Shaw!). Reluctantly taking the case, he sees that there are some eerie & hard-to-wrap-ur-head around, disturbing things going on in the Orkney Islands! It is just SO creepy & weird! I loved it! Big 👍🏻s up! Another fantastic horror miniseries from a very small publisher of comics... AWA Studios - Upshot... written by John Lees, w/stunning art by Dalibor Talajic, that I recently bought & have read the 1st 2 chapters/issues of, is called "Hotell." It is a 4-issue mini that- like the title above- is weird, disturbing, & terrifying; but it is most definitely its own thing, & very different. It is a horror anthology, w/each issue being both a self-contained short story... yet the stories do have a connection of some kind(I'm not 100% sure what it is yet, as I've only read the 1st 2 stories; but they do overlap in some ways. Aside from the recurring hotel manager(the "introduction to each story" guy- a la Rod Serling, who acts as our mysterious & a bit creepy "tour guide," so-to-speak), I think this hotel may be(or @ least have something to do with)hell. I don't think this is a spoiler, as 1)The title is not spelled "Hotel," w/one l, but is, instead, spelled Hotell[take out the "o" & "t", & what do u get? "Hell,"!]. So there's that clue. And 2)I've only read 2 issues, so am unsure about what this place is, exactly. Here is the byline given: "You won't find it on any map, but if you happen to be driving down Route 66 late at night & you're truly desperate for shelter, sanctuary or secrecy, you might see a battered sign on the side of the road: The Pierott Courts Hotel- where many check in but few check out." I STRONGLY recommend this one! It has been completely chilling so far- psychologically & viscerally! The last 2 I will mention that have sadly been overlooked by many- in part to their being lesser known, smaller publishing houses... are "The Bad Place"(published by Soaring Penguin Press)& "Lip Hook"(Self Made Hero). I won't try to go into long explanations or give long commentary on these(I don't want take up even more of ur time, as I've already gone on too long). I will just say that both are from the dynamic duo of David Hine & Mark Stafford(fantastic writers/artists). The art for both, as w/the art I mentioned above, regarding Iain Laurie, will be to some people's liking(I luv it!), while others may hate it, or may take time for them to gain an affinity(or at least, tolerance)for it, lol. I think, from the videos I've seen of urs, u will like- if not luv it- as it is offbeat(in all the right ways), disturbing, & creepy... but definitely not even close to mainstream, lol! The former is(to be brief)a haunted house story, but in no way formulaic! It incorporates some of the best elements of the great ghost/hauntings stories written by masters such as M.R James(normal-yet-eerie setting, mystery & suspense, building sense of dread, the supernatural, etc), while adding Lovecraftian aspects(which ups the sense of dread), elements of insanity, among other creepy & extremely horrific content- & I do mean EXTREMELY! Like, to the point of possibly being either or both TOO disturbing/TOO MUCH for some readers to take, in its psychologically horrorifying elements, &/or its visual grotesqueries! It's not "torture porn," to me, as I have no tolerance for such material. To each his own, lol. I'm just saying it IS graphic & TRULY disturbing in the writing/story & art! The latter title is essentially(as the front cover says), "a tale rural unease." That is as clear a definition as one could probably give to succinctly describe the category the book fits into. It is definitely uneasy & creepy as hell, & takes place in a rural setting. It reminded me a bit of the 2019 film, "Midsommar"(which totally scared & disturbed the sh*t outta me, lol... to the point that it stopped just a bit shy of my being able to even bear finishing it, as it bordered on being somewhat "torture porn"-ish, but wasn't, imho. Still, I am a MASSIVE horror fan, who has loved watching, reading, & listening to all sorts of mediums & genres of horror since the age of about 6 yrs old(I'm in my 40s now)! So I can tolerate quite a bit, lol. But that film pushed me to my limits. Excellent rural horror film! Just don't know if I'll be up for watching it again anytime soon, lol! But the graphic novel is in a similar vein, in ways, to that film. It is truly eerie, w/dread that- like that movie- builds & builds! Fair warning: It may ALSO be too much for some readers! I'd suggest googleing them both to get a better idea of their stories & artwork. Okay, I've gone & done what i said I wouldn't, lol. Damn bipolar & its pressured speech!🤨☺ Thank u for reading all this, if u've made this far, lol. Hope u had a great holiday! Hope to see some new vids when ur able to post them! But another great video here, bro! 😊👍🏻❤
