Despite being in a family tree of musical talent I seem to be the skipping generation, but I love knowing something about how musicians - such as yourself - make music regardless. When it comes to horror, I remember the monster movies as a child in the 80s, and the one that really grabbed me was Laurence Rosenthal's score for Clash of the Titans. All throughout the Medusa scene, the music was Thetis' earlier threat made manifest "Time to know the terrors of the dark and look on death". For an adult it would be merely a thriller, but for a young mind the music was very powerful and whenever in a low light area my mind would hear that creeping music and especially the sound of the "heavy piano"? To then finish that scene with Medusa's scream and then the scratching of the pillar...music and sound truely is the hidden actor!

Thanks for providing this deep dive! The style of this work feels reminiscent of "Indelible Scars" from Ragnarok Online (noting the approach to pitchbends), and Sarah Schachner's Lazarus Effect soundtrack (pulsing elements). The movie b-rolls were a nice touch complementing the provided regions of the music. The silence thing feels very important now that you mention it; I immediately thought of a non-horror example where during the chase between Obi-Wan and the Fetts in the Geonosian orbit: no music plays during the entire fight until Jango fires a heat-seeking missile at Obi-Wan's starfighter; it's like an "oh shit, something that can actually kill me (because it's ineluctable)" moment!

This was a really great video. It felt like I was actually there. It reminded me a bit like my violin tutor explaining things that i'd actually remember. Was really cool to see the behind the scenes in horror music creation!

really enjoyed this. you tackled so many topics in such a short time re creativity and music prod. and i love how you actually shared examples so we could hear and feel how the compositional techniques work! also love the fun feel to the video itself. music prod can be such a joyful experience of discovery and it comes across here. so many directions you could go, diff genres/techniques. thanks for sharing, really interesting and useful info for ppl in the field. good reminder about the stems!😂

Great video. Thanks for sharing! A heartbeat or clockwork creates a feeling of "something inevitable." Something like "you can hide, but you can't run." Something that will definitely happen. At 12 minute, this beat creates a feeling of something "wild/primal", which in turn gives a feeling of "struggle for life". Is this thoughts correct?
